Under 13 Blue 2009/2010
This season has been one of continuing change.
We changed the location of our home ground from Heol y Delyn to Blackweir (that’s down near the castle, Brian).
The team felt like it was everchanging from match to match.
For six games in a row we were unable to field the same team (on one occasion one of our players was unable to play because his family was stranded in Dubai, unable to fly because of the ash cloud – I suppose it happens to us all every now and again!).
Also, we acquired three players who were with us for the first part of the season and then decided they weren’t coming back (expletive).
And we’re not sure what some of the parents have been putting in the player’s breakfasts, but they are sure growing, especially Will who often catches low flying aircraft in his teeth!
The season had two notable high points. First, when we beat St Albans in January.
After several games that ran away from us the boys got a deserved win (and several of the parents almost needed medical treatment for hyperventilation).
The second high point involved the last two games of the season which we drew against Canton (this year’s champions) and a very good Radyr side. Well done lads – that was special.
The team has made good progress this season and our general play has improved immensely. We have become much more competitive on the ball, we are linking play much better and we are now a tougher tackling team.
The philosophy we are taking into next season is to become harder to beat and to take our chances when they come to us.
The 2009-10 squad was as follows:
Mat ‘the cat’ Hall
Mike ‘the timely tackle’ Davies
Will ‘the snow-capped’ Akins
Ellis ‘the terminator’’ Pridgeon
Luke ‘no way through’ Morgan
Harry ‘the blockbuster’ Solanot
Tom ‘the blocker’ Barber
James ‘the duracell’ Plaut
Patrick ‘the sprinter’ Morris
Lewis ‘the hitman’ Nelmes
Tom ‘of the Netherlands’ Holland
George ‘any position’ Grieve
Tim ‘the hotshot’ Dodd
James ‘the provider’ Farrow
Luc ‘the linkman’ Roelvink
Nye ‘double step-over’
Brown
Thanks lads for all your hard work this season. You’ve been great to be with.
We are all very proud of you and are all looking forward to seeing how things progress next season.
Also many thanks to the parents who have been there rain or shine, helped put up nets, run the line and help with lifts.
Unfortunately, we say farewell to one of our long standing players, James Plaut who will be leaving for boarding school in the near future. We wish him all the best for the future. Thanks for all the great football you’ve played and the good attitude you have always shown both on and off the field.

Under 13 Black 2009/2010
Another season is over and it is one that seems to have lasted forever. Maybe it was because of the two month gap between games due to the rain, snow, ice, Christmas, Easter and many other reasons why games were constantly cancelled.
The season finally finished in the middle of May with us losing to the top of the league and being relegated.
The league this season was a very tough one and was of a high standard. With us drawing twice to the side finishing second and losing by a single goal to the side that won the double shows how close it was.
Drawing eight games did not help our cause but does show that one or two wins instead of draws would have had us finishing half way in the division.
Being relegated did not come into our thoughts at the start of the season as we had a vision of finishing higher than our fourth position finish the previous season.
An old cliché that “We are too good to go down” was mentioned on many occasions in our post match conversations. These were normally held in our boardroom which is better known as The Fox and Hounds beer garden in Whitchurch.
On many occasions, big decisions were debated about and discussed to fine detail. For example, do we have normal garlic bread or cheesy garlic bread, do we have another pint or do Lewis, Adam and Josh want more chips?
There was once again no shortage of highs and lows during the season, and I am sure all those involved with the team including coaches, players and their families all have their own individual memories of these.
My biggest high and low came in the same game and one that will be remembered by many who witnessed that sunny evening at Llanishen Park.
It was the semi-final of the Cup against the old enemy Radyr Rangers and a game which we truly deserved to win.
Everyone at the game that evening and that also included the Referee and the Radyr coaches could not believe that we lost the game.
A single goal separated the teams and a goal that was scored in the last minute of the match when extra time looked almost certain.
It was a bitter pill to swallow for everyone involved in the team and was not deserved due to the effort, determination and excellent display of football that was far more than the Radyr team ever expected and had been used to playing against for the majority of the season.
But, experiences like this will be good for the boys to draw upon in the future and hopefully next season we can go that one step further and get to the final.
I would like to thank all the parents who helped with the nets etc on Saturday mornings and would also like to give an extra thank you to Ian “Collina” Davies for refereeing us once again. I do not envy you for doing this thankless task and cannot understand why people constantly shout at you from the touchlines. It is something that I do not condone and do not take to lightly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let us hope next season we can win promotion and get back into the top division!! I am sure Dave Jones just said the same in Abbo’s Echo!!
A big thank you to the following for all their abuse...sorry I mean effort!! Tomato, Moggsy, Jonesy, Smithy, Blagsy, Bourny, Sammy, Georgy, Tomo, Lewey, Carey, Coups, Goughy, Eddy, Jacko. Craig, Cliff and our very unlucky mascot Woody (RIP).
