Under 11 Black

Venue: Eglwys Newydd

Our 1st match of the season was against Heath Park Rangers and in what was a very good game played by both sides.

With 4 players missing due to Cardiff schools rugby trials and 3 new players gained from summer signings the team played very well in the hot conditions.

With some slick passing and running we came away with a 3 nil win.

Our 2nd game was against Pentyrch who seemed to be frustrated and vocal from start to finish . This in turn frustrated our boys .

The pressure was put on and the boys passing proved to be to strong in what was to become a scrappy game.the final score 2 1, with the Panthers scoring all goals!

Our final game was against our hosts for the day Eglwys newydd. The frustrations from the previous game carried through to this one and we quickly saw the team go into the second half 2 goals down .

The second half was a different story and the Panthers pulled themselves back into the game quickly scoring a goal to bring the score back to 2 1 .

With the pressure mounting on the Eglwys goal a dubious hand ball award saw them clear their lines and the final whistle call a hault to our fight for a draw. Final score 1 2 .

goal scorers today were...

Conor Hughes 3, Joshua Caswell, Ethan Grant, Stefan Oliver and Callum Holly with 2 OG'S (please dont keep it up callum)

Under 11 Black

Venue: Morganstown

With the Panthers Red team not able to field a team today we only had two matches to play.

Our first was against Radyr formally Pentyrch in what was a good game played well by both teams. The only difference today was the goal scored by new summer signing Kaleb Wagstaff with a neat left foot from out side the box.

Our second game was against Radyr formally Radyr! In a game played at a fast pace it seemed thet the larger squad and rotating players and positions unsettled the team in the games today. We ended losing this game 2 nil against a well drilled Radyr team.

Pleasing performances today from all players. With new players in the squad and Cardiff rugby taking three of our players ( what ever happened to football is Saturday and rugby is Sunday- I must add this is not my quote) Joshua Caswell was outstanding in goals and a very good defensive performance from Keiron Williams.

Bryan and I will have to look at the squad situation; looking at ways that we can rotate the squad to allow all boys to play more football without the use of rolling subs. more news to follow!

Saturday 18th October 2008

Under 11 Black

Venue: Pentrebane Primary School.

Our first game was against the first Maindy team of the day. The game was played at pace and in a good manner. As a squad we are having to move positions around and there are some players responding well to these changes.

This week we played Conor Hughes up front as a lone striker, with Sean Bartlett taking the left mid position, Stefan Oliver played a central defensive role and Joshua Caswell took up his place in goal yet again.

It has to be said that these four players along with the hard working Ethan Grant playing on the right mid have been playing outstandingly well, and have adapted to the changes with ease, making it very difficult to replace them when the squad is back at full strength.

The lads worked tirelessly this week and have started to create a lot of chances in front of goal albeit we are not capitalising on the opportunities created.

The only goal in the game came when one of the Maindy players decided to hitch a ride on the back of Conor Hughes as he was attacking their goal. He was brought down in what would have been a red card incident but the ball fell to a waiting Ethan Grant and as referee I decided to play advantage and the winning goal was scored. Final score 1-0.

Our second game today was against Fairwater, and again with players out of position we were up against a very strong side. The defense in this game were outstanding and were being confidently controlled by Joshua Caswell who was in fantastic form this game.

We scored just on the half time whistle from yet another fantastic charge up the right flank from Ethan Grant.

The second half was a very similar story, we attacked they attacked ,all very quick and at a very high skill level.

With a defensive slip up, a keepers call was ignored by a defender during a Fairwater attack and the levelling goal was scored to end the game 1-1.

Our last game today was against another Maindy Team, and with our numbers dropping due to other commitments we were always going to be up against it.

We saw Joshua Caswell make his 1st mistake of the day to allow the ball to be pushed into the goal for the 1st.

Our defense now without Stefan allowed the Maindy attack to do just that and two fantastic strikes were forced into our goal for the half time score to be 3 nil.

The second half saw us muster up a better performance and we had to work very hard to keep the score line the same. final score 0-3.

We saw some good performances today from certain players, and the overall performance of the team today was very very good.

We are creating opportunities in front of goal now and the results will come. What we would like to see as coaches is the effort from all
players in the squad to be the same and as a team we will grow and
see our results improve.

Well done

Under 11 Black

Venue: Pentrebane Primary School.

Our first match today was against a well drilled Marlboro Red team. Our concentration let us down right from the off and our opponents scored with an early strike.

With the return of our boys from rugby the expectation was high that our performance would be better. Unfortunately this was not the case, As three very silly mistakes followed and three very easy goals were taken by Marlboro . Final score 4 nil.

Our second game today saw us play Heath Park Rangers in what is always a tough battle.

The lads workrate increased in this one with Daniel Melhuish and Hugo Souto working well up the left together. Several chances came in this game with some simple football and one touch distribution from Kaleb Wagstaff creating two goals for both Sean Bartlett ( explain that celebration ?) and Hugo Souto ( please dont explain that celebration).

Joshua Caswell took his place in goal in the second half and again put in a sound performance along with a good performance on the left mid for Callum Holly. Final score 2 nil.

Our last game of the day was against Fairwater in what is always a competative game. Our Hosts quickly took the lead in the first half.

The lads pulled themselves together from then and kept their composure quickly levelling the score  with a well taken goal from Kaleb Wagstaff.

Against the run of play the our hosts broke away and a shot was deflected from the foot of Hugo Souto saw the ball deflected over Joshua Caswell into the goal.

Our constant pressure saw us close to equalising with a 3 on 1 break which we never capitalised on, only to be beaten by the referrees whistle. final score 2 1 to Fairwater.

Some very good football today with some harsh lessons learnt. At this level mistakes will be crucified so keep the football simple and cut out the mistakes. Some attitudes need to change with our players. At the moment the bigger squad means that not everyone can start a game, we are developing a squad for next season when we go into competative leagues  and would ideally increase our squad by another four player over the coming months. Attitude as well as ability is the requirment from now on and nothing short of 100% IS THE REQUIRMENT FROM THE COACHES PLEASE.

Under 11 Black

Venue: Llanedeyrn High.

With 3 boys at Cardiff Schools rugby and 2 strong player pulling out due to illness and injury, we arrived at Llanedeyrn expecting a tough time.

Our first game today was against the Bulldogs Red team who we had a no score draw in our last meet.

With changes having to be made today the lads exceeded all expectation with a strike force of Conor Huges and Kaleb Wagstaff working well together, and with Stefan Oliver (captain) at the back with another exceptional perfrormance the boys came away with a 2 1 win.

Our second game was against Bulldogs white team who beat us 5-0 in our last meet, and looked likely to do the same again scoring within 30 seconds of the whistle.

The Panthers settled down and played a lot of the attacking football. As well as defending well and frustrating the very quick Bulldogs midfield.

With big Rhys in the small Bulldogs goal he saved shot after shot from the Panthers strike force,

We conceeded a 2nd goal after a diving save from Joshua Caswell some how bounced of his upright and back across the face of his goal for a simple tap in.

The final score 2-0 to bulldogs but this did not do justice to the way the lads played with a highly depleted team.

Our last game today was against Whitchurch rangers and the lads although tired continued to play good football.

The word sitters came into this game as time after time we missed several of them. A fantastic finish to the day with a 3-0 win .

The boys played very very well today with to partnerships forming, and working well. Good individual performances today from all lads  with a man of the match performance in all 3 games from Joshua Caswell in goals who an awful lot of coaches are commenting on at the moment. Keep it up Josh

Venue: Llandaff Fields.

Our first game today saw us play the Thornhill blue team.

In a game that we totally dominated we were unlucky not to win this game by a big margin. This team has become our bogey team this season but pleasingly the panthers put into play what we have been trainng to do over the last three weeks.

The game turned out for us our best game of the season so far although the final result of a no score draw did not reflect how well we played.

Our second game was against Radyr formally Pentyrch.

Again the panthers dominated this game on what has to be the worst pitch of the season so far. This game saw us play our newest signing, Mathew Wells who showed a lot of promise for his debut appearance, putting in a very pleasing performance at full back with captain Stefan Oliver.

Again the boys passing play in this game will stand us in good stead for the bigger game next season. Final score 1- 0

The last game of the day was against Heol Hir.

This game again was  played on a poor pitch. We dominated the play again with some swift passing play albeit on such heavy ground we were tireing quickly. As soon as the other pitches cleared we moved to a vacant pitch and continued the game in better conditions.

The boys made more mistakes in this game and often poor first touches let us down. The final score in this game was 2 -0 to the panthers.... goal scorers today were Waleb Wagstaff and Sean Bartlett (2).

All available players today played very well in the conditions with a clean sheet kept by Joshua Caswell in goals.

It shows that the good attitude in training and the effort put in by most of the squad is paying off now , keep up the good work lads.

With no allocation of games we arranged a freindly 11 a side game against Llanrumney.

The lads enjoyed this one going quickly down to a goal in the 1st ten minutes. It took the rest of the half for the lads to settle realising the bigger pitch is far more difficult to run around constantly.

The second half saw us take control of the game and score 4 goals for an enjoyable win aginst very good opposition.

Venue: Moorland Park.

The following week saw us venture to Moorland park for a late kick off.

Our 1st game against a very good St Albans side saw us concede two sloppy tap ins after poor defending.

The final score being 0 - 2.

Our 2nd game was against Marlboro Black who are considered by many to be the best team in our age group.

On top of this they are always nice to play against with our games always being close, apart from one 5 - 1 drubbing which we dont like to discuss (haha).

Here we were playing some nice attacking football only to go a goal down to a defensive positional error. 0 - 1 was the final score but a pleasing performance all round.

Our last game of the day was against Ely Rangers this should have been the easier game for us but confidence was not running high now.

Little injuries saw key players leave the field and heads dropped. The final score was 1 - 2 to end a dissapointing weekend.

Venue: Pentrebane Primary.

This weekend saw us turn a corner. Another new signing. several players missing to the rugby, two players missing due to god knows what! Did it make a difference? The answe is no.

Our first game saw us play against Ty Celyn who prooved to be a lot better than initial thoughts.

With goals from Kaleb Wagstaffe and Stefan Oliver in the first half and a further goal from Ethan Grant in the 2nd, the lads took a comfortable 3 - 0 win against a good opposition.

Our second game was against Star FC, who it has to be said were there for the fun of it. In all my years of coaching kids football I have never seen so many kids laughing and joking with eachother during a game, it is also surprising the effect that this has on your own team too.

'Quite off putting' was one remark although it does highlight what kids football should be about. I overheard the coach telling his squad to have fun and they certainly did that.

A 1st half left footed shot from Daniel Melhuish and a 2nd half goal from Ethan Grant saw us come away with a 2 0 win

The last game today was against Fairwater and again we saw a very good game with fast skilful play from both teams .

The difference between these two sides today were the opposing keepers who both worked tirelessly to keep their respective teams in the game, which the did very well. Final score nil nil.

Saturday 7th March 2009

Under 11 Black

Venue: Court Field.

Our games today were played at our home ground of Court field. This was our first games here in two seasons. The benefit was we could make the pitches as big as we liked. We waited in anticipation for our opponents to arrive.

Our Red team had an abundance of players to choose from for the first time this season from what I gather; with ten minutes to go the Maindy squad totalled three players and Calvary Blue were nowhere to be seen, a team we have not played before.

With minutes to spare the Calvary blue team marched in to the excitement of the Panthers player as they realised it was a girl’s team they were playing. Hugo Souto quickly gathered his little black book and pencil in readiness to get some mobile numbers added to his tally.

Our first game was against them today and the lads mustered up a fair performance against a fair team, Conor Hughes opened the scoring after a slick passing movement between Dan Melhuish and Hugo Souto, who then added to his seasons total scoring from a Sean Bartlett corner.

Another Sean corner saw Conor Hughes head the ball in for his second of the day. Hugo Souto then followed in his second with a simple right foot tap in and Hugo then assisted Conor Hughes to his hatrick to bring the first half to a close.

The second half saw lots of changes in players with new signing Antonio Campo scoring his 1st of the season, quickly followed by 2 goals from Callum Holley. Sean Bartlett added to his seasons total with our 9th goal of the game and rounded the game off with the final goal of the game when Joshua Caswell distributed a quick ball from goals to Ethan Grant on the right flank who in turn fired a cross across the box for Sean to head the ball into the back of the net.

A good score line which did not give the Calvary blue team the justice they deserved. They battled hard all game. Applauded our goals and even apologised if their challenges were miss timed or late. Well done ladies.

The second game today was against the Maindy red team. The result of the first game left the lads a little complacent to the point that they switched off expecting all three games to be that easy.

A goal either side of the half time whistle, gave Maindy a 2 0 win against a very poor Lisvane side.

Our last game of the day was against our club mates Lisvane red and we have never seen so many lads in that squad.

The lads quickly switched on in this game and Antonio Campo quickly opened the scoring with his 2nd of the day.

Hugo added to his total with a left footer after being set up by Ethan Grant again. Then Ethan picked up the ball from a Stefan Oliver goal kick up the right hand flank and the team took their third goal with just 3 touches of the ball.

The second half started and with a lapse of concentration the red team scored to bring the score back to 3 1. and later in the half Antonio finished the game off with his third of the day to take the final score to 4 1 to the black team.
