A full squad of twelve, including debutant Ciaran, enjoyed mixed fortunes on the first day of the season played on a difficult surface (search parties may have been needed if the grass had been any longer).
Facing a well-drilled Splott side, the boys showed their competitive edge to share the spoils in a 0-0 draw. Alex, Connor and Greg were outstanding in defence and Sam A displayed all the shot-stopping flair to which we are becoming accustomed.
In the second match, after Nye's opener mid-way through the first half and despite the work of Toby's cultured left boot, the boys lost their shape and were disappointed to lose the second match 1-2 against Grangetown.
The final match saw an enthusiastic but tiring Marshfield side go down 5-0 to rejuvenated Oranges. Ciaran showed his eye for goal on three occasions with goals being added by Sam G and the versatile Greg, enjoying a spell in midfield. The defence of Connor, Luke and Thomas, with Harry in goal, held firm as Sherman buzzed away up front in typical fashion.
On balance a decent first outing afer a long break for the boys who will wish to focus on fitness and defensive positioning in the weeks ahead.

Pre-match preparation, for both players and parents, consisted of gathering up armfuls of mown grass and depositing it over the touchlines. It is inconceivable that those responsible for cutting the grass could have considered it fit for children to play on. Without the considerable efforts of all present no football would have been possible without seriously endangering the players, not least those suffering from any form of respiratory problems or hay fever.
On to the footy!
The opener matched the Oranges against old friends Radyr Rangers Red and proved
to be a well contested affair. Despite spells of intense pressure the Orange
defence of Thomas, Alex, Connor and 'keeper Sam A held out.
The result might have been better had Greg's early thunderbolt not sent the
Radyr goal frame towards the next postcode! Ciaran, Greg and Sam G worked
tirelessly to support the defence from midfield and Harry's strong appearance
in the second half reinforced an excellent team performance.
In the second match against Heol Hir Glas, Toby's long-range effort and an own goal under intense pressure from Nye and Ciaran gave the boys a 2-0 win. Once again the defence, with Luke strong on the left, gave little away in a game played largely in the opposition's half.
The Oranges were unable to prevent a strong Ely Rangers side come away with three wins for the morning as tired legs started to give way to some silky skills. Keepers Harry and Ciaran were both helpless against a torrent of attempts. The boys responded well with three breakaway strikes as Sam G secured a hat-trick as reward for his energetic running.

The squad approached today's tough round of matches without the injured 'Duracell' Sam G, 'No Nonsense' Connor who was rugby-tied and the versatile Greg. Still, Oranges started with a promising draw against a well organised Maindy Corries Red outfit. Playing their best football of the day the lads fell behind before Nye ended his one week barren spell up front with a typically clinical finish from six inches! Starting the second half down 1-2 the defence held out stoically, allowing Nye to poach an equaliser in our only meaningful attack, this time from even closer!
The second match against hosts Heol Hir Glas saw Oranges take a deserved lead mid-way through the first half as Nye drove the ball home from distance. Sloppy defending, which was to catagorise the rest of the morning, then allowed the home side to claim two strikes. Despite the creation of several chances by Toby, Oranges could not find a finish and went down 1-2.
Defensive frailties again let the side down as Llanedeyrn Bulldogs plundered a two goal advantage in the final game before super-sub Toby struck twice to bring the scores level. Yet again, an inability to clear the lines cost the boys dear as Llanedeyrn struck once more against the run of play to send both despairing Orange coaches searching for words! Sam A's fierce drive against the foot of the post which then ran along the goal line before spinning out perfectly summed up a frustrating morning!
Congratulations to Connor in his endeavours with odd-shaped balls. We hope that his combative style is not lost to us for the whole season!

As in recent weeks the side started strongly and fully deserved their share of the spoils against a neat Thornhill Blue outfit. The defence of Alex, Luke and Thomas with Sam A in goal repelled every attack to record a goalless draw.
Against hosts Splott Albion, the stalemate was broken by Nye's neat strike. Two goals either side of the interval saw Splott take the lead before Toby's incisive through ball allowed Nye to drill home his second. Greg revelled in the physical nature of the game as Harry made several saves to keep the home side at bay. Ciaran and Sherman ran their socks off but it was to no avail as two late strikes gave Splott a hard-earned victory.
Two early strikes put the boys on the back foot against Panthers Blacks and only Sam A's athleticism in goal kept Oranges in touch at the break. A stronger second half saw Oranges press hard to get level but the final whistle confirmed a deserved win for our sister side.

In all three games of the morning, the Blacks were in control. They played with confidence and the passing amongst each other was a pleasure to watch.
In the first game against St.Albans, Ben Macomish scored his first goal for the team and it was a great moment, not only for him, but for everyone involved. Josh got the second which was created by a neat pass from Will.
The second game against Thornhill saw us score 2 goals early and we were playing excellent attractive football. Sam worked hard and was well supported by Adam in the middle and they were both the creators of most things during the game. Ben Morris continued where he left off in the first game catching everything that came near him.
The last game of the day saw us up against the Oranges. With an early strike from Josh and a curling shot from Lewis we ended a top class half of football leading 2-0. The second half saw many players going on and off the pitch but the boys still managed to keep their shape. The back 4 of Jack, Michael, Joe and Alex were immense, not only in this game but all morning.
Well done to Ben Macomish who was "Player of the Week"

Approaching the morning's fun with a full squad for the first time in weeks, the lads were soon into their stride against Marlborough Reds as a series of flowing passing moves saw them scorch into a 5-0 half-time lead with a brace each for Nye and Toby and another strike from Harry.
'Keeper Sam A, Alex, Greg and Thomas adopted a welcome no-nonsense approach at the back and this continued when substitute defenders Luke and Connor joined the fray. Understandably, perhaps, the Brazil-esque first half could not be sustained and Marlborough fought back strongly to win the second half with the only goal.
Brazil became Bognor Regis Sunday Reserves in the second match against a determined Heol Hir Ywen who, once gifted an early lead, capitalised to triumph 4-0.
With the combined wisdom of Ferguson, Mourinho and Wenger imparted on a wilting side, the final game proved to be an entertaining affair against a strong Urdd outfit.
A tight first-half saw Urdd take an early lead before Alex, and then Connor, put up the No Entry sign in front of the Panthers goal. Despite nice touches from Sherman and strong running from Ciaran, the lads were unable to square the match before the interval.
After more motivational contributions from the coaches, Panthers came out strongly in the second-half and Toby's incisive pass allowed Nye to equalise. With nerves fraying, the game could have gone either way until the tireless Sam G popped up to finish another fluent passing move with the last kick of the morning.

The boys continued where they left off last week and again played with confidence in the first game against Maindy corries. Will got on the score sheet with a cool finish and Josh got the second after a neat pass from Will. There was plenty of determination from the boys and all of them were playing with the attitude and commitment that is expected of them. The boys listened well to the tactics and instructions that were given to them while I sat in my car behind the fence. (It's a long story)!
The second game was much like the first. Will again scored from a powerful shot that hit the inside of the post and into the net. Josh got the second after receiving a pass from Adam and was unlucky not to score on a few occasions. Jack and Alex were the perfect wing backs who got forward down the line at every opportunity. Jack and Lewis linked up well on the left, and Alex and Ben down the right. Joe and Ben defended well at the back and both clean sheets were thoroughly deserved.
The last game... the less said the better!!

Glorious sunshine was the backdrop to today's set of fixtures which
could have provided a fitting setting for a Del Monte advert - wall-to-wall
orange shirts of three Panthers sides.
The Oranges' opener matched them against a determined Panthers Blue
side. A fierce opener from Ciaran followed by goals from Greg, Sam
G and Sam A saw the Oranges go in 4-0 at half time. Changes to personnel
gave Thomas an unaccustomed free rein up front in the second half,
with Alex playing an equally unfamiliar role in midfield. Both relished
their opportunity and narrowly missed adding to the scoreline. Solid
work from the Blues defence kept the Oranges at bay until Sam A
and Sam G both netted near the end.
Gary Lineker and the Match of the Day team took their seats
for the second match with their anticipation. Nervous parents stood
biting their nails as the Oranges took on their old mates, Panthers
Blacks, in what proved to be the show piece game of the morning.
End to end stuff saw the Blacks start strongly before the Oranges
began to show their mettle. Amazingly the first half ended 0-0,
testament to the determination of both defences. The second-half
again opened with surging attacks on the Orange goal before Nye's
weighted pass and Sam G's run and precision finish gave Oranges
the advantage. After more flowing play from both sides, the Blacks
deservedly clawed their way back with a great finish from Josh.
Rugged determination from Luke, Toby and the Blacks' Adam typified
a spirited encounter as both sides searched for a winning strike.
Parents couldn't look as chances went astray at both ends before
super-ref Ian "Collina" Davies called time on a thoroughly
entertaining affair. Both sides were a credit to their coaches and
parents and went away smiling from ear to ear! De man from Del Monte,
he say, "yeass" (ask your parents!).
After such a humdinger it came as little surprise that the pace
slackened in the final match. An accomplished Heol Hir side took
an early lead after some limp defending. Harry's bulldozing run
was rewarded with Nye's tap in from typically minimal distance.
Despite Orange control of much of the rest of the match, Heol Hir
pounced on defensive hesitation to notch the winner.

The first game of the morning saw the Blacks up against a well
accomplished Heol Hir side and the boys knew that they had to be
on top of their game to get a result. The passing and movement of
Will, Adam, Sam and Lewis was of the highest quality in the first
half and it was a mystery how it finished goalless. In the second
half Michael and Jack were using the width of the pitch to attack
the opposition defence and combined well with the midfield. Because
of this Adam latched onto a pass from the energetic Sam and scored
the first goal of the game with the next two goals coming in quick
succesion after two powerful strikes from Josh.
The second game....................Please see Clive's report above!!
The final game was against the Blues. With the defence now in attack
and the attack now in defence, the shape of the team was lost to
say the least. Not only were the boys confused, myself and Cliff
had confused expressions on our faces also. Joe seemed to enjoy
the striker roll and took every opportunity to perform a silky skill.
Josh and his parents looked amazed as he took up his centre half
position and I think he is the most attacking centre half we have
had. He even managed to score from that position but very often
forgot his defending duties. Lucky for us, Ben was on his toes and
cleared his line when any danger came to him.
It was another good morning for the boys, both with results and
the quality of football.
Well done to Sam Williams on being "Player of the Week"

Only two matches were possible at a drizzly Splott Park as Heath
Park Rangers failed to turn up.
Carefully conceived coaching plans were thrown to the four winds.
The two remaining matches might have caught the eye of the Health
& Safety Executive as the speed of the resulting revolving
door of substitutions came close to breaking the sound barrier.
The Panthers are commended for taking the disruptions and disappointment
in their stride with such good cheer.
A strong Splott Albion were soon into their stride in the first
game. Benefiting from a string of dithering defensive mistakes,
Splott surged into a 3-0 half time lead. In a 'game of two halves',
Panthers rallied in the second period and clever interplay between
Sam G and Ciaran was rewarded by an own goal. Alex and Luke, enjoying
freedom in unaccustomed forward positions both came close to narrowing
the gap further. Greg and Thomas' physical performances at the
back ensured no further mishaps.
An accomplished Maindy Corries Red's flowing passing and movement
presented a tough challenge in the remaining match. Against the
run of play, Panthers broke through Sam A and Sherman allowing
Nye to poke the ball home. The scores were levelled just before
the break and, despite a last-ditch tackle of the morning by Alex
and a point blank save by Luke, Maindy deservedly secured a narrow
win early in the second half.
The team hopes to have a full set of fixtures next week!

It was a week where I now know how Dave Jones feels. I have not got the excuse that my players are thinking about the Liverpool game and are trying to stay away from injury. Neither have I got the excuse that my two strikers are very old and slow and my midfield players only use their left foot.
The first game was against a much improved Blues team. Their commitment and desire to win the game was for all to see and they were a joy to watch. It was a win that they thoroughly deserved, but it was a shame that Sue was not there to see it. Well done to the Blues!!
After the first game and the team talk that followed, things did not change but continued as they left off in the first game except that we were lucky not to lose 10-0.
The last game showed a vast improvement and showed signs of the football that we had become accustomed to. Will went in goals and did not look out of place and pulled off some excellent saves. Sam scored our first goal of the day with an excellent individual goal that was of the highest level. He beat numerous players before blasting the ball into the top corner of the net. Ben went up front in the second half and showed the strikers how to do it by scoring our second with a shot into the bottom corner.

Shorn of a number of regulars it was left to those present to step up to the plate.
Thomas Smart's defensive qualities were not found wanting all morning against three strong sides and, together with Alex, Luke and 'keeper Sam A he was one of an unbreachable defence in the opener against Thornhill Red as the lads secured a creditable 0-0 draw.
Thomas' tackling continued to impress against a strong Ely Rangers outfit. Brave 'keeping from Luke and strident tackling from Greg also characterised another Rourke's Drift performance.
A tiring Panthers side lacking any forward momentum held out for long periods in the final match against Heol Hir Ywen. Alex was formidable at the back whilst Sam A ran tirelessly for his team mates in a lone forward role.
Results against strong opposition failed to reflect adequately the considerable team effort displayed by the lads this morning.

The first game of the day saw us up against a new team in the league. The football on show was as bright as the sun and was as impressive as the pitches that we were playing on. We went behind against the run of play but quickly equalised after a neat toe poke from Adam. The second half was as fast and flowing as the first and there were some excellent performances from Jack, Joe, Michael and Alex at the back. Lewis, Sam and Will again linked up well in midfield and are now looking up and passing at every opportunity.
Again we went behind in the game but it was not long before Adam scored his second of the game after a precise pass from Sam. All in all, it was a fair result for both sides and a great spectacle for all that were watching from the sidelines.
The second game was another well balanced game. There was nothing in it apart from the goal that Pentyrch scored at the end??????????????????????????
The last game of the day was a game of two halves. Within the first 5 minutes we were 2 nil down after some poor defending. The boys kept at it and Josh managed to grab a goal just before half time. The second half saw us improve immensely and within a few minutes we were leading 3-2 after goals from Josh and Adam. Josh scored again to get his second hat trick of the season and there could have been a lot more if it was not for their keeper pulling off some excellent saves. Lewis saw the keeper at his best when his curling shot was heading for the top corner, but was tipped over the crossbar. There were some excellent displays from all the boys and notably Tim Dodd who had made his debut that morning. Ben again enjoyed his opportunity to play out, and looked solid at right back. He got forward at every opportunity and continually looks to get on the score sheet again.

The low November sun that illuminated today's proceedings was not as bright as the smiles on coaches Benitez, Ferguson and Wenger's faces after three cracking performances.
Close to full strength, the boys defended bravely and attacked incisively against an organised Danescourt side in the opener. Greg opened the scoring before Toby saw two speculative efforts reap full reward. Ciaran completed the scoring from a breakaway as the defence of Alex, Harry, Luke and Thomas prevented any comeback. Sam A's throwing gets better week on week and is allowing the side to quickly turn solid defence into productive attack.
An accomplished performance from 'keeper Ciaran and outstanding performances from Greg and Sherman formed the bedrock of another strong defensive showing in the second match against a forceful Maindy Corries Red outfit. At the other end our own scoring opportunities were thwarted by some outstanding goalkeeping to leave an enertaining game goalless at the end.
Match of the Day this week was the encounter with talented St Albans. More heroics and anticipation from Greg, playing in central defence, prevented clear scoring opportunities at one end whilst neat inter-passing between Nye and Sherman set up Toby to shoot narrowly wide from distance. Goalless at half time, St Albans took an early lead in the second half with a thunderous effort from range. This was to prove the only goal to be conceded this morning as, once again, the defence held out against a pressing opposition. Going forward the Panthers appeared to be running out of steam until a determined Nye took control of the ball on the bye line and crossed for Sam G to equalise.
In conclusion, some great individual displays and robust defensive teamwork rewarded with three results against tough opposition.

With a squad of 12 for the first time this season, the selection headache was here again, but the football that was played soon erased the headache and brought some complimentary comments from all three opposing managers.
The first game saw us go behind after a callamity of errors from the Blacks. This did not dampen the spirits of the boys and it was not long before a goal from Adam and another from Josh saw us ending the half leading 2-1. With some excellent defending in the second half from Joe, Mathew and Alex and some neat football from Sam and Lewis the boys always looked in control.
The second game was where "silky skills Will" put in his best performance of the day. He covered every blade of grass on the pitch and was constantly linking up with all the players around him. Josh scored his first of the game after following up from a terrific strike by Adam that the keeper could not hold. Jack scored the second which was the icing on the cake of a great passing move which involved Michael, Sam, Lewis, Josh and Adam. Josh scored his second of the day just before half time and was unlucky not to score more. The second half started well for the boys with Jack getting his second of the game and was unlucky on many occasions in getting his hat trick. Joe enjoyed his centre forward role for the half and was shooting at every opportunity. Tim was unlucky not to score after seeing their keeper tip his shot aound the post.
The final game was always going to be the toughest test of the day and the boys knew they had to play well to get something out of the game, and play well they did!! Every one of the 12 players played their part in the footballing show that was on display. The defence of Mathew, Alex, Jack, Joe and Michael were immense all through the game and cleared everything that was put in front of them. The fast passing football in midfield was a joy to watch and Lewis, Will, Sam and Adam were impressive in everything they did. Josh and Tim are now linking up well with the midfield and Josh was clinical in his first goal of three which was to be his second hat trick in as many weeks. His second was from a tap in following a great shot from Adam that struck the post. His third came from another tap in following a half way line shot from Lewis that the keeper could not hold. Ben in goal had a relatively quiet day but pulled off an excellent save when called upon near the end.
All in all it was another excellent week for the boys and they got what they thoroughly deserved.
Well done to Josh for being "Player of the Week"!

Once again blessed with low November sunshine, the coaches
didn't know what to expect from a squad that hadn't stopped
talking about canoeing, rock climbing and late nights since
returning from a week-long school jolly in West Wales.
Free of the usual Tuesday tactical brainstorming form the
coaches, the lads launched themselves with renewed vigour
against a competitive Rhiwbina side and a tight opening
period saw the match goalless at half-time. The defence
of Thomas, Sam A, the unflappable Greg and 'keeper Ciaran
remained organised throughout and were well supported by
Sam G and Harry. Sherman and Alex formed an untried front
partnership in the Crouch/Owen mould but found play concentrated
at the other end of the pitch. The second-half introduction
of the influential Toby, shoot-on-sight Nye and no-nonsense
Luke saw the Oranges begin to dominate and a collector's
item long shot from Nye, followed by a poacher's goal from
Alex gave them a two-goal cushion, reduced to one by a late
consolation for Rhiwbina.
Against hosts Splott the Oranges were certainly worthy of
a result but went down to an early opener caused by hesitant
defending. Goalkeeper Sam A was left to battle bravely for
the ball on the ground in front of his own posts as three
attackers finally forced the ball over the line.
The final match against a spirited Calvary Blues outfit
saw the Oranges go in 3-0 at half-time with strikes from
Nye, Sam G and Ciaran (who claims to have deflected Sam
G's shot!). This provided an opportunity to rotate a few
players in the second half. Striker Thomas came close a
couple of times before Sam A blasted a fourth goal into
the top corner. Brave Calvary never gave up and came close
themselves with a last minute strike coming back from 'keeper
Luke's far post. Well done Calvary and welcome to the pool!
Overall a workmanlike performance by the Oranges - can they

Another excellent week for the Blacks with the boys recording their sixth win on the trot and being unbeaten in their last 10 games. The football being played is as impressive as the results and all 13 players are contributing to the superb run of form.
In the first game we played Grangetown for the first time and started at a slow pace. The football improved as the half went on but finished goalless. The first goal of the second half was scored by Josh after a neat pass to him from Lewis. The second came after an excellent dribbling display from Josh and an accurate finish. There were plenty more attempts on goal that narrowly missed and the post was hit on numerous occasions with strikes from Adam and Sam. Grangetown pulled back a goal after an excellent strike from distance that Ben was unlucky not to save. It was going to be the only way we were going to concede due to once again, the outstanding defence of Michael, Mathew, Joe and Ben Mac. The boys in defence can be proud after only conceding two goals in six games.
The second game was against Thornhill and the football played was a joy to watch. Jack was enjoying his role as a striker and was continuously speeding up the wing and putting in cross after cross. Sam was like a man possessed with his energy and determination. He totally controlled the first half and was unlucky not to score after running with the ball from deep in his own half and forcing an excellent save by the keeper from his powerful shot. The first goal was scored by a tap in from Josh after a goal mouth scramble and the second was scored by Lewis after he curled it into the top corner from just inside the opposition half. Will was showing again his super skills and also his vast range of passing and he set up many attacks because of this. Chances after chances were created and it was a miracle how the scoreline was only kept to two.
The final game was a change of fixture against the Blues. Both teams played some neat football and the deadlock was broken after an accurate finish from Josh. The Blacks were in great attacking form and again Sam, Adam and Lewis were unlucky not to score after seeing their shots hit the post. The second was scored by Adam after he neatly finished a fine move from the strikers. Tim once again looked stronger as the day went on and his best display of all was against us when he had a half for the Blues.

Treated to a rare appearance by Robert, the Oranges were keen to demonstrate their recent progress. A biting wind meant that they would want to keep moving and great movement, vision and passing was a theme of this morning's matches.
A series of pot shots from Toby were finally rewarded with two hitting the net against an organised Danescourt YC side. Sam G added to the score before Robert finally scored his first goal in ages! Ciaran bossed his alert defensive troops (Harry, Luke, Thomas and 'keeper Sam A) to great effect and they were rewarded with a clean sheet.
The second match proved to be a tight affair and Fairwater Juniors opened the scoring with a tremendous through ball and finish against an advancing Luke in goal. Nye's rasping volley from Sam G's pin-point corner was parried into the path of 'Raging Bull' Harry who merrily unleashed one of pile-drivers for the equaliser. Greg, playing at the heart of the defence, continued to demonstrate his ability to be in the right place at the right time as he single-handedly stopped a series of attacks in an even second half.
As parents finished the last dregs from their coffee cups and huddled to keep warm the Oranges were in no mood to slow down. An inspired performance from the Canton Rangers 'keeper kept them at bay until Toby's run from deep and slide-rule shot found the net. Sam A covered every blade of grass and was denied a second several times before Toby's deflected long shot and Sam's tap-in were second-half rewards for continued pressure. Thomas was in inspired form down the right, contributing to many of the best passing moves.

On a very very cold morning and with a very small squad, the boys continued with they left off last week and played some excellent football. The run of wins reached eight and with a draw in the last game, the unbeaten run has now reached thirteen games.
The first game against the Blues was again a very close game. The boys found it hard to get past Mathew Hall in goals once again and was saving shots from every angle. The first goal was scored by Adam (Birthday Boy) after getting on the end of Josh's cross. Adam definitely had his shooting boots on and was unlucky with numerous shots that were either well saved or went narrowly wide. The Blues equaliser came from a goal line scramble that we could not clear and was no less than they deserved. The second half was as close as the first. Jack was again looking good as a striker and was linking up well with Adam and Josh. Following a saved effort from Jack, Adam got his second of the game and was now really enjoying his birthday.
The second game was against Marlboro and after some poor defending we were a goal down. This did not dampen the boys spirits and the equaliser was scored by Jack after excellent follow up play in the opposition box. Jack linked up well with Lewis, and Josh and was involved in all attacking moves of the half. Joe put in an excellent free kick and Josh was unlucky not to score with the following shot. Alex was superb in midfield and was constantly winning the ball and then putting the pass up to the front players. He is another one of those players who can play in various positions. Ben Mac is another one of those and looked good in all positions today. Lewis got more involved in the second half and had one shot cleared off the line and another that went just wide. Marlboro again came close and thought they had scored until Michael cleared the ball off the line. The second goal for us came from a Lewis corner which Adam controlled and then turned and laid it off for Josh to hit it powerfully into the top corner. The third came from a great passing passage of play which was finished by a thunderous shot from Adam. Marlboro almost broke through again but were denied by a fabulous save by Will who is now becoming an excellent keeper. Alex was once again involved and almost scored his first Panthers goal. Lewis put in a cross and Alex hit it it first time, only to see his shot go just over the bar. Adam got his second of the game after he hit a tremendous shot from distance that the keeper could not hold. I wish it was his birthday every week.
The final game was against Ely Rangers. They had proved to be tough test against both our sister sides this season and we knew we had our work cut out. With hard work and determination, the boys were more than a match for the Ely team. Against the run of play, Ely took the lead from a sloppy goal that was a rarity in recent weeks. The boys kept pressing and were unlucky not to be drawing at half time. The boys started the second half well and created many opportunities. The equaliser came from another "Arsenal" type passing move. Good interplay from midfield and attack finished with Josh hitting a rocket into the top corner. The defence of Michael, Alex, Joe and Mathew were strong and cleared any attack from the Ely strikers. Will, once again made a great save at their attackers feet and threw out quick to start another attack on the Ely goal. Adam cut inside and shot again but saw the keeper pull off a great save and tip the ball around the post. Lewis floated the corner into the front post where Josh headed only to see his shot narrowly miss the goal.

On a bitterly cold morning the nine Panthers braving the elements worked hard against a determined Thornhill Blue side and secured a deserved draw. Neither side could find the cutting edge up front to secure a victory.
Having warmed up a bit, the Panthers upped their work rate in the second match against Radyr Rangers Red. Under presure for much of the match the Alex, Greg, Luke and Thomas, with Sam A in goal held out until concedng a set piece goal late in the second half. Undeterred, the Panthers were driven forward by Greg, Harry and Nye to set up Toby for a breakaway equaliser.
Resting on their laurels in the final game, the Panthers were twice punished for indecision at the back. Despite the best efforts of Toby to produce a reply, the Panthers had clearly left their shooting boots at home and secumbed to defeat to an inspired Radyr White side.
The last training session of 2007 will be on Tuesday 18 December, 6pm at MUGA.

On a bitterly cold morning and with the pitches looking more like a dirt bike track, we were more than pleased with the football that was played. The boys finished 2007 in style and the unbeaten run has now reached 16 games. It is an achievment that each and everyone of the boys can be proud of and is all down to excellent team spirit, commitment, determination and not forgetting excellent passing football.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all the boys

Battling against a strong wind in the opener, the sleepy Oranges were caught dozing as hosts Danescourt YC 'D' twice benefitted from a lack of positive defensive decision-making. Gaining more focus as the morning went on, the defence, comprising at various times Ciaran, Greg, Harry, Luke, Sam A and Thomas, was not to concede again all morning. With the wind at their backs a determined effort saw the Oranges claw a goal back through Toby's deflected effort before an incisive through ball from the same midfielder released Ciaran to blast home the equaliser.
Panthers Blues presented an awkward challenge in the second match. Playing with the wind in the first period, Nye was well placed six inches from the goal line to tap in an opening created by Greg and Sam G. Shortly afterwards, Nye pounced again with a neat lob and finish eerily reminiscent of Paul Gasgoigne's effort against the Scots at Wembley. A strong defence was needed in the second half as wave after wave of Blues attacks and corners were repelled. At the other end, Matthew's agility in the Blue's goal foiled the Orange's chances of increasing their lead.
A tight final match was decided by substitute Nye's determined strike from close range early in the second half. Again the defence, dominated by Greg in the middle, provided little sight of goal for an organised Pentyrch Rangers Red outfit.
Overall, a solid start to the New Year, founded on determined defensive effort and teamwork up front.

On a gloriously crisp morning the opener saw the boys take on an accomplished Heol Hir Ywen and concede a goal within the first minute. An ominous start was followed by another of the side's Rourke's Drift performances and but for the brilliance of Sam A in goal the game would have been out of sight by half-time. But football's a funny old game, and after the defence of Ciaran, Luke and Thomas admirably weathered a continuing second half onslaught, Toby broke free to bring the game level. After so much effort, concentration then lapsed briefly and hesitant defending presented the home side with the opportunity to secure a deserved winner.
A more confident Orange team took on the challenge of Pentyrch Rangers Red in the second match. Slick passing between Greg and Nye and a pinpoint cross from Sam G almost saw Sherman take full advantage as he took up a superb far post position. The side had centre back Greg to thank for a superb and brave goal-saving challenge as the first half ended goalless. Whilst still relying on Sam A's agility between the sticks, the boys took command with two early second half strikes from substitute Toby. With the Oranges applying more pressure as the game came to its conclusion, Toby gleefully slammed in his third with the final kick.
Early pressure in the third game failed to secure an opener and the boys were disappointed to concede a breakaway goal in a competitive final match against Danescourt YC 'D'. In the second half, Sam A's earlier performances made it no surprise when his salmon leap turned away a Ronaldinho-esque attempt from distance. Two strikes in as many minutes from substitutes Sam G and Nye turned the game the way of the Oranges. A procession of further substitutions (which saw Ciaran do his own version of the hokey cokey in-out-in) robbed the match of its fluency, despite Alex's late marauding forward forays from the heart of the defence. Determined tackling by both sides characterised a hard fought encounter and made for the morning's most entertaining fixture.
Another solid all round effort from the boys this morning, a number of whom may be well advised to make sure to pack their football boots(!), shin pads(!) and broaden their vocabulary(!) before the next match.

With both sides shorn of key talent and with the cold snap biting at the players from the 9.30 start, the derby match against Panthers Blacks was never likely to reach the dizzy heights of entertainment produced by these sides in recent encounters. And so it proved. Spurred on by an early poachers' strike from Adam shortly followed by his well struck snap shot from distance, the Blacks' took the honours in the first half and might have put the match out of reach. A much improved second-half performance saw the Oranges lay seige on the Blacks' goal and they were duly rewarded when Nye halved the deficit after an neat interchange with Ciaran. It proved to be in vain as Ben in the Black's goal snuffed out a number of late chances for an equaliser.
The Orange eight valiantly turned their attention to the massed throng of players from well organised hosts St Albans. Some solid work from Alex, and the no-nonsense approach of Luke and Thomas kept the home side at bay. Only a well taken St Albans shot on the turn separated the sides at the break as Ciaran had a shot well saved. Greg, Sherman and Toby ran all over the park as the lads strove to find an equaliser on the break. Nye pulled off a string of athletic and brave stops in goal. Again the efforts were in vain but the lads can take heart from one of their best team performances of the season.
With shirt sleeves pulled over frost-bitten hands and teeth chattering, the same eight took on Maindy Corries Blacks and an entertaining tight first half closed with a strike for Maindy. The second half started with four minutes of madness in which a bedraggled Orange outfit managed to concede four goals. With Coach Morgan's voice ringing in their ears the lads picked themselves up again and took the game to their opponents with purpose. For the second week running Sherman was unlucky having found himself a shooting chance before the exhausted Orange eight heard the final whistle.
Today's weakened side did themselves proud and maintained great character, energy and enthusiasm under difficult conditions.

After a bare eight last week the coaching team faced an entirely different problem this morning. With a squad of eleven to pick from the challenge was to ensure that all players got the chance to shine.
A tight opener against Thornhill Athletic Blues saw the teams nil-nil at half time as Sam A in goal and Alex, Thomas and Luke shut up shop competently. Early in the second half substitute full-back Ciaran saw a chance to unleash a rocket from distance to force a sprawling 'keeper and allow fellow replacement Nye to lash in the rebound. Building on the opener, the Panthers went prowling for more and Toby confidently drove through to strike a second.
Being 2-0 down at half time to Maindy Corries Red was to prove a chasm that could not be bridged by substitution magic. Sam A again through himself all over his goalmouth to huge effect but was unable to stop a third in the second half. The Oranges drove forward with intent and forged a number of opportunities of their own at the other end.
The third match against hosts Llanrumney United was all about unsung hero, Sherman after Toby's early opener. Adopting a very advanced forward role, busy-bee Sherman was proving to be a major irritant for the home side even before he latched on a loose ball and casually toe-poked his first goal for the Oranges to bring the loudest cheer of the season from the parents. He seemed to grow a couple of feet and came close to adding to his goal tally. Sloppy defending allowed Llanrumney back into the match but the boys were determined to make Sherman's goal the decider. The midfield engine room of Sam G and Toby covered every blade of grass as 'keeper Ciaran and defenders Alex, Greg and Harry snuffed out any threat of an equaliser. Our tiring hero was replaced late on to a standing ovation from the parents shortly before the final whistle.

Only two games this morning but that was enough to see Thomas emulate Sherman's achievement of last week with his first Panthers goal. Enjoying a rare opportunity at the spearhead of the attack against Calvary Blues, Thomas drifted menacingly to the the far post to force Toby's fierce cross over the line to the delight of the watching parents and grandparents (and the ref, too, whoops!). Tom's goal added to two earlier strikes from Toby and one from Nye, and preceded Calvary's a well-earned consolation and Toby's late effort.
The second game against hosts Radyr Rangers White saw last week's hero, Sherman, strike the post. The rebound fell to Nye whose cross was converted by Sam G on the far post. After striking the post from distance, Toby scored to take the side 2-0 up at the break. A disorganised second half was meandering to a goalless finish before Sam G returned the favour, crossing for Nye to strike from close range. Toby then crashed yet another shot against the post.
Congratulations to Thomas, whose goal means that the entire Orange squad have now managed to score.

Deprived of the services of Ciaran, Sam A, Sam G and Toby, the remaining seven regular Oranges welcomed back last minute call-up Connor to provide a bit of muscle to an inexperienced midfield unit. Oranges always seem to struggle in the wet and Pentwyn Dynamos White took best advantage of horizontal rain in the opener. Two-nil down at half time and with no touchline resources to reinvigorate the collective effort, the eight lads began to get to grips with their new positions and responsibilities in the second period only to see the home side add a third from a break away. A late consololation from Nye, who controlled and slammed in Connor's precision free-kick was a deserved reward for the late fightback.
A welcome early goal by Greg from an acute angle heralded a much more spirited performance in the second match against an accomplished Pentwyn Dynamos Red. A quick reply followed by another strike gave Pentwyn a narrow advantage before Greg, having a stormer of a match, again pounced to force Nye's effort into the net for the equaliser on half-time. An exciting second half saw end-to-end action and Pentwyn again took the lead. Strong tackling from Alex, Greg and Luke gave Thomas time and space to drive the ball forwards with purpose. A busy Sherman forced a corner from which Connor, like a fly-half kicking wide to a rampaging wing, again used his slide rule to find Nye in space to volley home a deserved equaliser. In a tense finish, 'keeper Harry provided the heroics as the lads clung on tenaciously for the draw. Oranges might even have taken all the spoils had the Pentwyn 'keeper not kept out Nye's late drive at full stretch.
The exhausted eight were outperformed by a skillful Radyr Rangers Red outfit in the last match but battled to the end.

On a cold and windy day, and a bobbly pitch, there would have been
plenty of excuses if things had not gone to plan.
However, the boys continued playing with energy, desire and showed
fine examples of passing football that was a joy for all watching.
Nye and Kieron who we borrowed from the Oranges fitted in well and
both played their part in all three games.
Joe, Alex, Kieron, Nye and Ben Mac should be proud of their defensive displays and once again conceding zero goals in three games. Alex is now attacking much more now and is enjoying linking up with the midfield.
The midfield are now creating chance after chance for the strikers and are getting their fair share of goals themselves. The passing and link up play is now at speed and the opposition are finding it difficult to defend against it. Sam and Adam's energy and commitment is a joy to watch and enables Lewis to have the free role in midfield.
Josh once again got a hat-trick in a match and looked sharper today, creating chances for others and scoring some excellent individual goals. Tim is improving and will be looking forward to a full season next year.

The football played was as bright as the morning sun and as fresh as the spring breeze.
There was some excellent football played in all three games. A neat flick from Jack saw him increase his goal tally and Josh bagging three for the morning brought his tally to almost 60 for the season.
All goals scored came from excellent passing and moving from either Lewis, Sam, Adam, Tim and Will.
Only one goal conceded in two weeks of football is a credit to the defence of Michael, Joe, Mathew, Ben Mac, Ben Morris and Alex. They really do work hard for eah other and are now a match for any strike force.
The corners from Lewis looked a lot better today from which Joe connected and was unlucky not to score on a few occasions. Adam will increase his goal tally next year for sure as he is hiting the ball well but is finding the goals to be a tad too small for himself.
Congratulations to Lewis Turner for being "PLAYER OF THEWEEK"!

After what seemed like months without fixtures the Oranges took the field with debutant Lloyd amongst an unusually large squad of eleven.
First up were hosts Heol Hir Glas and a tight match was decided by a single goal from a near post corner by the home side after Nye's shot on the turn found the foot of the post.
In the second match a slide rule pass from Toby split the Canton Rangers defence in two as Nye coolly slotted home from close range. A Toby long range effort and own goal from an inswinging Sam G corner gave Oranges a 3-0 half time lead before Canton came back strongly with a consolation effort.
Against a strong FC United outfit the Oranges were desperately unlucky to concede from another near post corner as the ball deflected in off an attacker's back. The lads bravely fought back and were deservedly rewarded when another of Toby's trade mark drives found the net off the inside of the far post.

A rare visit to Llandaff fields saw us scooping out the water
from the goals and also from a crater than looked like it had
been left by a world war 2 bomb. (Does any of our council tax
get spent on park pitches????)
The first game saw us grab a quick goal by Josh who got on the
end of a Lewis corner. The boys seemed to go asleep following
this and conceded an equaliser from a well hit shot. The half
time team talk seemed to do the trick as the boys battled well
and started to pass the ball much better. Adam put the tackles
in when required and started to look a lot more livelier and
covered all areas of the pitch. The defence of Michael, Alex,
Joe and Mathew worked hard all game and are now the backbone
of the team. Josh got the winner from a shot that was fumbled
by the Rhiwbina keeper.
The second game was a close match in which we wasted many goal
scoring opportunities. Jack attempted his first of two bicycle
kicks of the day and was unlucky.(not to score but to connect
with the ball)!! Josh scored our only goal which was set up
by a great pass from Mathew.
The final game saw us play the best football of the day. There
was plenty of passing and movement involving Will, Sam, Lewis
and Tim. Tim recorded his first goals for the team after getting
on the end of two flowing moves and was unlucky not to get his
hat trick. The second half saw Joe play up front and he come
close with a powerful shot. Michael, Alex and Mathew got forward
at every opportunity and their passes up the line were often
the catalyst to all our attacks. Jack was once again unlucky
with his bicycle kick attempt ( connecting with the ball I mean)
and will try it again next week I am sure.

A tense opener against Thornhill Athletic Blue produced a goal-less first half and a lacklustre performance to match the freezing blustery conditions. The lack of focus provoked a half time "hairdryer" from the coaches, a change of three key personnel and an immediate response in terms of commitment and energy. It could have gone either way. Sam A displayed his customary assured performance between the sticks. Controlled, no-nonsense defending by Alex, Greg, Luke and Thomas and tenacity from Ciaran in midfield allowed an alert Sam G to poach a late winner.
Sherman's goals are like London taxis. You look for one for ages then several turn up at once. Radyr Rangers White were on the receiving end this time as Sherman found himself well placed to beat Ciaran to Harry's cross and find the corner. One-nil up at half time, enter Toby to embark on a mazy run before unleashing an unstoppable longshot. Radyr's hopes of a comeback were enhanced when a precision cross from a cheaply-conceded corner found the centre-half, whose bullet header had to be right in the corner to get past an inspired Sam A in goal. With the final whistle approaching, momentary dithering at the back led to yet another diving stop from the Orange 'keeper.
With a full-house beckoning, the Oranges struggled to come to terms with the pace and control of accomplished hosts Llanedeyrn Bulldogs in the first half of the final match. Benefitting again from Sam A's athleticism at the back, a tired Orange side were pleased to get to half time on level terms. A few tactical swaps for both sides provided a more even second half and Nye broke the deadlock from Sam G's throw and Harry's intelligent dummy. Toby and Sam G tidied up loose play in midfield whilst the defence restricted the hosts to long shots. The Oranges were further rewarded for their efforts when a precision through ball from Sam G found Nye at the edge of the box to swivel and fire off a low left foot shot into the corner to make the game safe.
After a slow start, this morning's fixtures ultimately provided a fine team effort, suitably rewarded. It was also Greg's last match of the season and, accordingly, he was treated to an early soaking by those of his team mates with the pace and energy to catch him!

Sunny Llanrumney brought down the final curtain on four years of Saturday morning fun, goals, spills and tears. With Connor and Greg absent with good cause, the remaining ten of our intrepid and unique band of sporting heroes took to the field for the last time as an Orange outfit.
Coach Paul warmed them up with his usual tactical aplomb - amazing for 10am on a Saturday. Ian "goal-side" Morgan loosened his vocal chords for one last time. Grumpy Brown took up his customary position on the far side from the parents, square-on, arms folded, and the same manic glare that made him odds-on not to be allowed out from a match against patients of Broadmoor a few years ago!
Canton Rangers were first up and, with Luke in an unaccustomed Peter Crouch role, the Panthers were on the prowl as wave after wave of seven-man attacks were thwarted by poor finishing, post, crossbar or backside. Suddenly, against the tsunami, Rangers drove forward, the Oranges relaxed and found themselves one-down - Grumpy wasn't impressed and said as much. With the first-half coming to a close, a typical thunderbolt from Toby was deftly turned in by an alert Ciaran. Rangers held out stoically until the recovery was finally completed with two late strikes from Toby. The Oranges were relieved but knew they'd have to raise their performance in the last two matches.
A combative and mobile Llanrumney United were in a mood to take advantage of any tardiness and went into the break two up. Determined not to go down without a fight, the Oranges came out and had their best half of the morning but failed to reduce the deficit despite Thomas's late emergence as a striker.
The final match against Marlborough Red saw a valiant display by the defence in a first-half dominated by the Reds. Despite Sam A's heroic effort and Ciaran's athletic goal line clearance the Reds were able to force the ball home from close range to take a deserved 1-0 first-half advantage. Once again the character of this Orange side emerged in adversity. A draw at least was needed to secure a 50% season record of wins/defeats. Inspired by Harry's no-nonsence approach to the "Beautiful Game" and driven forward by Sam G's customary high work-rate, this side would not yield. It was fitting that the side's existence closed with a goal that typified so many over the past four years. The records don't confirm precisely how many times a cross from Toby has been converted from short range by Nye but the partnership combined again to secure the draw and that 50% record.
Great fun, great excitement, cracking entertainment ... and free, apart from John's occasional Starbucks to calm his nerves! A rewarding way to spend four years of Saturday mornings. The squad has grown up together and developed as young sportsmen with a common purpose but unique individual characters. Magic moments? Take any of the boys' first ever goals - and this season we saw the remaining two squad members finally get on to the scoresheet. Take any last ditch, goal-saving tackle. Take any unfathomably athletic save from our many goalkeepers. For me it was Toby's determination to unselfishly provide Thomas with his chance to score at Radyr, but this was only one of many memorable incidents that showed the growing personality and maturity of this squad.
A word for the parents - thanks for all your support over the years and for the presents. It's been great to work with the players without behind-the-scenes parental politics that all too often spoil everyone's enjoyment of youth sport. Be proud of your boys - in the words of old Mr Grace "they've all done very well"! I'm sure that we'll share many more touchlines over the coming years.
Right, off with the lot of you! Go and work out what an offside trap is and how to beat it. Train hard and behave for your coach next year!
Oh, and when you get to an FA Cup Final of your own, remember old Grumpy - gissa ticket!

On a morning that was to be the end of an era, there were tears in the eyes of most parents that were present. It was the last morning of mini football and the end of not only a fantastic season for everyone involved, but also an end of a team that had had a great journey from those early days at under 8's.
The first game saw us go a goal behind after being camped in the opposition half for some time. We came close on many occasions and finally got the equaliser from a Tim Dodd shot. The second half was a better display and Jack, Lewis and Sam continually put perfect passes through for the front men to score. The winner finally came from Josh who beat his man and hit a powerful shot into the bottom corner.
The second match was to be the game of the day. A close fought contest, which was to be much more exciting than anything that was to be seen on MOTD later in the evening. The defence of Joe, Michael, Alex and Mathew stood strong with all the Ely attacks and quite often set up the attacks for the front men by playing pin point passes up the line. The first half ended goal less and everyone waited in anticipation for the second half.
The second half continued as the first half ended and we were unlucky to concede an early goal. The boys continued to attack the Ely goal which saw both Will and Jack narrowly miss on a few occasions. Sam saw his well hit shot palmed over the bar and deserved a goal after all the hard work he had put in. The equaliser finally came following some good foot work by Will and a neat drag back from Tim which allowed him to shoot into the Ely goal.
The final game was a slight disappointment as it turned out to be our only loss of the morning and only our fourteenth of the season. However, it was not down to lack of commitment from the boys. All Eleven boys worked hard, from Ben in goals, all the way through to the boys up front.
The whole squad can be truly proud of what they have achieved since the Blacks team started and are a credit to themselves. Well done all of you.

The Under 11's Black team on their tour to Prague.
It was a fantastic end to mini football for the Under 11 Blacks. We stayed for 4 nights at a working ranch just outside Prague.
Our first game was against PSK Union which saw us come away victorious and receive a fantastic reception from all involved with the team, players, parents, coaches and all from the local village.
We made some great friends.
The second game was against the Academy of Bohemians 1905. The boys played well but were showing fatigue from late nights and the hot weather but held their heads high in defeat.
Woody the quiz master put on a super quiz in the evenings for the boys and the parents. A few surprises were to be had due to the football knowledge that was demonstrated by the parents. (Both good and bad) The evenings were then finished by the now world famous show..."Dalton Ranch got talent"!
There was an array of singing talent on show and one of the fathers is now looking to make a career from singing as a lookalike...(Brian Ferry) A few parents stayed up all night to watch the sunrise and had a few of the local beers to keep them company. They were kept warm by the local drink which was nicknamed "DIESEL" I am sure diesel does taste that bad!!
The boys conducted themselves well and have a lot of memories that will stay with them for a long time and are now already asking where we are going next year!
Here are some photos from our tour...
