U10 Red Mascots at the Millennium Stadium
Members of the U10 Red team were invited to be mascots at the international between Wales and Germany on Saturday 8th September 2007.
The match was held at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff and these young Panthers had the honour of leading out the Welsh team.
Getting ready for their big moment!
Unfortunately the result did not go Wales' way, losing 2-0, but this did not spoil the boys' enjoyment of the occasion.
Lisvane Panthers Under 10 Black
Venue: Waterhall
1) vs. AFC Whitchurch 1 - 1
The first half was goal-less and Panthers had to do some stout defending with new signing Dhruv Mehta prominent. Sean Bartlett opened the scoring following a goal mouth scramble after good work by Dan Pike and Joshua Moore. However, the lead was short lived as Whitchurch equalized with a brilliant individual goal by Owen Lane. Keeper Seb Davies had dealt with everything so far but was well beaten by Lane's shot.
2) vs. Fairwater 0 - 1
Fairwater took an early lead and despite some very strong attacks, led by Conor Hughes and Hugo Souto, the Panthers could not level. Fairwater's dangerous attacks were well repelled by excellent defending from Connor Flynn, Dan Melhuish and Ethan Grant.
3) vs. Lisvane Panthers Red 3 - 0
In a bid to confuse the watching media, Panthers other side the 'Reds' turned out in yellow! With a full squad available, coach Bryan Hughes rang the changes regularly and the Blacks cruised home to a comfortable win. Michael Gooding took over in goal and Seb Davies came closest to breaking the first half deadlock, beating keeper Harrison Trinder, only to see his shot cleared off the line.
Joshua Caswell hit the woodwork, but appeals for a goal could not be answered by referee Adam, who was busy on the phone! Three excellent second half goals by the Joshuas - Moore 1 and Caswell 2, led to a good win.

Lisvane Panthers Under 10 Black
Venue: Llanishen High School
This very well organised tournament was held this year at Llanishen High School on a 'Round Robin' basis with no outright winners.
1) vs. Eglwys Newydd Blue 2 - 2
The team were caught sleeping and were two nil down after only three minutes. However, an improvement in the second period led to goals by Joshua Caswell and Dan Pike giving Panthers a share of the spoils.
2) vs. Thornhill Blue 1 - 0
A tight game between two evenly matched sides was suitably settled by a superb volleyed goal by Dan Pike.
3) vs. Thornhill White 1 - 1
The opening goal was a superb team effort and a six pass move ended with Dan Pike slotting home. Thornhill quickly equalized following a defensive error and Ethan Grant was denied by the woodwork in the last minute.
4) vs. Rhiwbina (formerly Llanishen Dons) 3 - 2
These have always been difficult opponents and this game was no exception. An unfortunate Ethan Grant own goal opened the scoring but three excellent finishes by Joshua Caswell (2) and Conor Hughes put the Panthers 3-1 ahead. A brilliant long range effort made it 3-2, but the boys hung on for a well deserved win.
5) vs. Cwrt Rawlin 0 - 0
A very competitive scorless draw ended the competition and left the Panthers unbeaten at the end of a very enjoyable day.

Venue: Waterhall
1) vs. Lisvane Panthers Red 2 - 0
In a game which the Blacks totally dominated, their club-mates were saved from a much heavier defeat by 'keeper Harrison Trinder. A goal in each half, by Joshua Caswell and Dan Pike resulted in a comfortable win and the most excitig moment for the defence was when Seb Davies demolished the temporary goalposts, erected following vandalism on the regular fixture !
2) vs. AFC Rumney 3 - 0
This was a fine display against difficult opponents and produced an excellent win. Some very good creative work by Sean Bartlett and Hugo Souto threatened the Rumney goal, but the scoring was opened by a thunderous strike from Dan Pike. A few minutes later, a flowing move involving Dan Pike and Joshua Moore led to Joshua Caswell doubling the lead. A second goal by Joshua Caswell in the second half rounded off a good all-round display.
3) vs. Llanedeyrn Bulldogs Green 2 - 1
The Panthers tore into their opponents from the start and excellent work by Johua Moore set up Dan Pike, who, unusually, missed from point-blank range. An even game saw the teams go in for half-time at 0 -0. Defender, Dan Melhuish was unable to play in this game due to a foot injury, but, it is hoped, with intensive physiotherapy, he will be fit for next weekend's matches. In the second half, tremendous defensive work by Michael Gooding and, in particular, Ethan Grant kept the Bulldogs at bay. Two well finished goals by Joshua Caswell and Hugo Souto gave Panthers a 2 - 0 advantage and a brave diving save by Seb Davies kept the lead. The Bulldogs scored with vitually the last kick of the game and it finished with a 2 - 1 win.
This proved to be an excellent day's work for the boys with three hard-earned wins.

1) vs. Ty Celyn Result 1 - 0
The Panthers played some excellent football during the first half and with Joshua Moore tearing the Ty Celyn defence apart down the right flank, numerous chances were created with Hugo Souto, Conor Hughes and Joshua Moore himself all going close. The Ty Celyn 'keeper, Sam Craddock, made a string of tremendous saves until just before half-time, a thunderous drive from Dan Melhuish rocked the crossbar and Joshua Moore drove the rebound home. The second period saw more of the same as Panthers laid seige to the Ty Celyn goal with both Joshua Moore and Hugo Souto hitting the woodwork. When there was any danger, the defence was resolute with Dhru Mehta and Ethan Grant outstanding and 'keeper Seb Davies a virtual spectator. A very good performance ended with a 1-0 result.
2) vs. Lisvane Panthers Red Result 3 - 0
With coach Bryan Hughes rotating his squad, Michael Gooding took over between the sticks and gave a sound performance. The first half was evenly balanced and finished 0 - 0. This brief description is as a result of the Press Box emptying between games to sample the excellent bacon rolls available at the adjacent Leisure Centre ! The Panthers really picked up the pace in the second period and, following a delightful cross by Sean Bartlett, Hugo Souto slotted home. Daniel Pike then went on a mazy run and set up Conor Hughes for the second. Seb Davies missed a good chance before Daniel Pike put in Ethan Grant to complete the scoring.
This week only two games were played as one team failed to appear, but another two wins and two "clean sheets" as a bonus means the boys' impressive start to the new season continues.

Lisvane Panthers Under 10 Orange
Lisvane Panthers v Marshfield 0-1
The first half was a spirited performance from the team. The first half started really well with Lisvane putting Marshfield under pressure. But an unfortunate goal from the opposition led to a sudden loss of confidence and Lisvane allowed themselves to be hemmed into their own defensive half for too long and at times struggled to clear the ball.
Revitalised by half time Lisvane performed really well – the best of the season so far. We were able to penetrate Marshfield’s defence and although they had a couple of misses the boys showed team spirit and composure to keep the opposition under control. The defence led the way with good performances from Alex Boyd, Philip Back and Jack Bishop. The attack responded well and showed some positive moves. Alex Maldonado worked tirelessly. He fought and delivered the ball to the midfield and forwards who had some good chances and will surely find the back of the net soon.
Man of the Match: Alex Maldonado
Lisvane Panthers v Maindy Corries 0-3
This was another very positive start from Lisvane. It was end to end football and the team worked very hard. Lisvane sustained a period of pressure from the Corries with Owen Dawes and Eddie Hales challenging the opposition to win the ball back. A series of good saves from Alex Boyd kept the Panthers in the game. Ben Blackler had his debut game for the Panthers and Jake Boyd made a welcome return – both working hard and linking well in the midfield. The score was 0-0 at half time.
With a larger squad available new players came on at half time and inevitably it took a little time for the team to adjust. Big clearances from Jason Bayes, Jack Bishop and more driving forward on the wing from Alex Maldonado took the forwards a little by surprise and they needed to move further into the opposition’s half to get ahead of the ball. Once this happened, the game looked to be in Lisvane’s grasp with just a long awaited goal needed. But an unfortunate slip let the Corries back into the game. Lisvane did not give up, and Jack Bishop and Rhys Goldwin continued to win the ball and get it to the attacks. But it wasn’t the Panthers day as a further lapse in concentration gave the Corries two more goals, literally in the last couple of minutes of the game. Needless to say, the scoreline was not a true reflection of the match or of the spirited performance given by the Panthers. Better luck next time.
Man of the Match: 1st Half: Alex Boyd, 2nd Half: Jack Bishop
Lisvane Panthers v St Albans 0-5
The first half was a poor team performance. Lisvane struggled to find any shape especially in defence whilst St Albans were purposeful and got ahead with a well taken goal. In spite of a couple of good saves from Alex Le Grys, the Panthers were caught day dreaming and a succession of oppotunistic goals by St Albans followed. Although tired the defence was lacking concentration or commitment. Perhaps there needed to be a defence player on the pitch organising the others.
The second half was a different story with a truly spirited performance. Lots of attacking from Alex Le Grys, Alex Maldonado, Ieuan Wilkins and James Salamon made the Panthers show that the boys could be an equal match to St Albans. Unfortunately, tiredness towards the end took its toll and a late goal from St Albans took the edge off an excellent second half. Good late efforts from Alex Maldonado and Ieuan Wilkins showed the Panthers are a good team. Keep working at it – the team effort is beginning to show and victory can only be round the corner for you. Good luck next week.
Man of the Match: Ieuan Wilkins

1. vs Star FC Result 1 - 0
Star showed that they had come for a win by exerting early pressure and one effort was tipped over by 'keeper Seb Davies. Both Joshua Moore and Dan Pike had good shots saved, before, on the stroke of half-time, Joshua Caswell finished a typical poacher's goal.
The second half was dominated by Panthers and Conor Hughes, Sean Bartlett and the two Joshuas all went close, but could not score the elusive second.
2. vs Lisvane Panthers Red Result 3 - 0
The pre-match team talk was delayed by the disappearance of coach Adam Caswell, but all was revealed when he emerged from the bushes adjusting his clothing! For this game, Joshua Caswell took over between the sticks and proved to be a capable deputy. An unusual fumble by Red's goalkeeper, Harrison Trimble, led to Ethan Grant giving the Blacks the lead. With Dan Melhuish weaving his magic with that cultured left foot, both he and Dan Pike came close to increasing the lead.
Early in the second half, a mazy dribble by Sean Bartlett led to Conor Hughes doubling the lead. A silky spin by Dan Melhuish set up Ethan Grant for the third goal. Although the Reds pressed hard to pull a goal back, the Black's defence held firm with Conor Flynn and Dhru Mehta outstanding.
3. vs Marlborough Blacks Result 1 - 5
Marlborough took an early lead with a controversial goal, with Blacks' defenders claiming the ball was kicked out of 'keeper Seb Davies' hands. This incident seemed to unsettle the usually reliable stopper as the game progressed and Marlborough soon doubled their lead. Then the move of the day saw Joshua Moore finish with aplomb and, at half-time, the Blacks were back in it at 1 - 2. With Michael Gooding leading the attacks an equaliser looked on the cards, but Marlborough broke away to make it 3 - 1 and heads dropped. Dan Pike did his best to create the chances, but left dad Martyn tearing his hair out in frustration! Two late goals gave the score an unfair look, but this defeat must be seen as a wake-up call to the for the remainder of the season.
From now on, due to the lack of qualified coaching staff, the Reds, who play in yellow are to disband and split into two and join the Blacks, who play in black and orange and the Oranges, who play in orange and black ! Hope this is crystal clear !

Lisvane Panthers Vs Heath Park
Rangers 1-2
The Panthers started with intent and had a good initial spell. There was good attacking play but against the play the Heath managed to score a great goal with a long ball that went over the top and flew into the net. It was good to see the Panthers not panic and they settled with a good formation in defence and some good passing from all players. By half time it was a draw following a corner kick from Alex Maldonado that went straight through Heath’s goalposts with the involuntary help of one of their defenders.
The second half was an evenly played game with ‘end to end’ play and all players attacking and defending. The Panthers had the better chances overall but just at the critical moment Heath Park Rangers slipped another goal through the defence. There were good performances from Jack Bishop, Philip Back, Rhys Golding and Alex Maldonado.
Man of The Match: Philip Back
Lisvane Panthers Vs Danescourt 0-0
The first half was very competitive with neither side finding their rhythm or being able to assert themselves on the opposition. Gradually the Panthers were beginning to look the stronger of the two sides and there were good challenges from Alex Le Grys and Joseph Aziz who took a hard blow from the ball but picked himself up and kept going. Ben Blackler had a shot on goal, the best chance of the half.
Panthers started tentatively in the second half and it looked as if Danescourt were going to take the initiative and possibly the lead. But after five minutes the boys settled down and began to tackle well and pass the ball with conviction. The tackling on the wings was particularly good with real commitment and drive from Rhys Golding. A draw was a honourable result.
Man of the Match: 1st half, Joseph Aziz 2nd half, Rhys Golding
Lisvane Panthers Vs Canton Rangers 0-2
Canton Rangers started with purpose and punished the Panthers early on, who were caught sleeping and looked unsure as to whether they should be on the pitch or not. The Rangers are a good team and worked hard. There were other chances for the Rangers and the Panthers were hemmed into their own defensive half. Unfortunately another slipped through to make the score 2-0 at half time.
Replacing some tired legs at half time worked well. The Panthers started the second half positively and the game became an even contest with both teams playing some really good football. The Panthers started to create chances and their moves were fluent and exciting. A shot from Iuean Wilkins hit the post and the rebound hit a player but still it didn’t fall to a Panther to score. Further chances from Rhys Golding, Jack Bishop and Ben Blackler each nearly ended in Canton’s net but more than made up for the first half and once again showed that the Panthers are no push over.
Roll on next week and surely a victory must be on the cards for the boys.
Man of the Match: Jack Bishop

Lisvane Black vs Reborn Lisvane Red
The game started at pace with our reborn club mates looking for a fresh start, and with a well worked goal straight from kick off the black team took an early lead from a long ball over the top from Sean in midfield to Conor H on the left mid who slotted the ball across the box for Ethan to slot the ball past an in form Harrison Trinder in goal for the Reds.
From there the lads sat back in midfield and the defenders pushed up looking for another big score line which did not come as the Reds quickly broke away with a long ball to the waiting Elery who swiftly pushed the ball into the back of our goal. they soon took the lead with a long throw from Harrison finding Elery again who with a strong run through our defenders scored his second of the match.
With a boost of confidence the Reds with their shot stopper Harrison stopping everything the Blacks had to offer, forced a third goal when Ryan M found the back of the goal from close range. for a fantastic (for them) 3 1 win...... well done Reds and welcome back.
Lisvane Black vs Fairwater
This match was one we were looking forward to as they had beaten us recently in a hard fought game at Waterhall. Fairwater quickly took the lead after pushing the ball down the left of the pitch and beating our keeper . The lads did not panic as instructed and with a big shot from Sean (shot or cross) Bartlett bouncing over the Fairwater keeper, to equalise the score.
From here on in the game took a horrible twist when our opponents coach objected to not being awarded a free kick and threatened to remove his team from the pitch if it was not awarded to him, his demonstration although a little embarrassing led to his parents getting involved and I was left with little option but to remove our team from the pitch.
I awarded the win to our opponents as it obviously meant a lot to them. Well done Lisvane.
Lisvane Black - Pentyrch Red
In our final match of the day against what has to be the nicest and most polite set of people in the league, the play was end to end . Both teams fought hard and at half time the scores were level at nil nil. The second half was much the same and with a few stoppages for some late challenges the Lisvane team took a 1 goal lead from a Dan P goal. Final score 1 nil to Lisvane . THANK YOU PENTYRCH.

1. vs Marlborough Blacks Result 0 - 1
This was a much closer game than when the two teams met a few weeks ago. Harrison Trinder had taken over from Seb Davies in goal and was called upon to make two early saves. The first half was very even and Panthers were unlucky to fall behind when a firm shot was deflected past Harrison into the net.
Newcomer, Callum Jenkins was showing the way with a battling spirit, as Panthers lannched attack after attack in an effort for an equaliser. With Conor Hughes and Ethan Grant dominating the midfield, it seemed as if a goal must come, but it wasn't to be and the game ended in a 1 - 0 defeat.
2. vs Pentyrch Reds Result 3 - 0
This was an excellent performance by the Panthers with the larger than usual pitch allowing them to play some flowing football to entertain the loyal supporters. Joshua Caswell opened the scoring from a narrow angle and the first half closed with the Panthers 1 - 0 ahead.
With Michael Gooding and Hugo Souto showing strength and determination in defence, Panthers continued to dominate the game. Seb Davies had returned to his position in goal, but sustained a leg injury and Harrison Trinder took over once again. Joshua Moore was causing Pentyrch plenty of problems with his searing pace down the right flank, more goals were bound to come and a superb header by Daniel Pike from a Sean Bartlett corner made it 2 - 0 and Ethan Grant rounded off the scoring with a firm shot drilled into the corner.
3. vs Rhiwbina Dons Result 1 - 0
In a week of high standard football, this game was no exception. Joshua Moore scored the only goal of the game with a low shot into the corner of the net and nearly doubled the lead following a brilliant 1-2 move with Daniel Pike.
The second half saw Rhiwbina throwing everything at thew Panthers' goal, but resolute defending, particularly by Connor Flynn kept them at bay. Rhiwbina hit the woodwork twice and Harrison Trinder showed some sound handling and the game ended in a narrow victory.

Rumney: 0 - Panthers Orange: 1
There were a few tentative moments from the Panthers at the start before they settled into a good pattern of play. Overall it was a solid start from both teams.
Defensively Panthers looked confident with Owen Dawes, Jack Bishop and Philip Black blocking the ball and pushing it up into the midfield. Rhys Goldwin worked well on the wing and linked up with Alex Le Grys who struck the ball well for his first goal of the season.
Jake Boyd came on at half time and Panthers started well looking confident. It was an evenly fought match with some good end to end play. The Panthers were beginning to fade and Alex Le Grys dropped back to help defend the lead.
Good defending from Owen Dawes and Jack Bishop helped ensure a well earned victory for the Panthers.
Man of the Match: 1st Half: Alex Le Grys, 2nd Half: Jack Bishop
Panthers Blacks: 0 - Panthers Orange: 2
The Panthers Oranges started very well. Good attacking runs from the Oranges with Alex Maldonado driving the ball down the wing. A couple of corners from Alex Maldonado nearly caught the Blacks out, but against the run of play the Blacks scored from their corner.
Good defending from Owen Dawes and Philip Back ensured the game was evenly fought with Jack Bishop and Ieuan Wilkins linking well in the midfield and Joseph Aziz had a close chance. We were down 1-0 at half time but there had been more chances for the Oranges who had played really well.
Good pressure from both teams meant there were good attacking chances and defending. It was another positive start from the Oranges. In central defence Owen Dawes and Philip Back looked particularly strong and the Oranges had to manage a period of sustained pressure from the Blacks requiring good goal-keeping from Alex Boyd.
At full stretch Alex Boyd made an excellent save pushing the ball out but one of the Blacks was there for the follow-up shot.
It was a really good team performance and even 2-0 down the Oranges did not give up. Well played and well done for the Blacks too!
Man of the Match: 1st Half: Philip Back, 2nd Half: Owen Dawes
Lisvane Reds: 1 - Lisvane Oranges: 0
A positive start from the Oranges who moved the ball quickly. They dominated the game early on and looked the more likely team to score. The midfield and forwards were linking well and had some close chances with a good try from Ieuan Wilkins in front of goal.
However the Oranges looked complacent at the start of the second half and fairly early on there was a breakdown in the midfield and against the run of play the Reds scored. This gave the Oranges a shock and the game’s tempo increased quite a bit! There were good attacking moves from Ieuan Wilkins, Alex Le Grys and Alex Maldonado. Alex Maldonado shot one suggested a draw was possible but further good defending and pressure by the Reds who worked very hard too and manage to keep the score at 1-0 in their favour. Well done both teams!

1. vs Lisvane Panthers Reds Result 6 - 0
The Blacks tore into their clubmates from the first whistle, determined to seek revenge for their recent defeat at the hands of the 'Reds' (who, incidentally, play in yellow!).
Joshua Caswell opened the scoring with a deflected shot and then doubled the lead with only his second touch of the ball ! Joshua Moore made it 3 - 0 with a long range effort and this was the half-time score.
The second half continued in a similar vein, with Ethan Grant increasing the lead further. Then followed a period of 'total football', much to the delight of the crowd and the slick passing and off-the-ball movement led to two further goals by Conor Hughes to complete the rout.
2. vs Lisvane Panthers Orange Result 2 - 0
This game was destined to be a nightmare for the watching media as both teams played in a mixture of black and orange, making detection almost impossible !
The Orange side were on top in the early stages and it was against the run of play that Ethan Grant opened the scoring, with a cool finish, following a Sean Bartlett corner. He then performed his usual spectacular celebration (Omafebi Martens eat your heart out!) and the half ended at 1 - 0.
The second period saw an improved performance from the Blacks, with Hugo Souto driving forward from midfield and Connor Flynn resolute in defence.
Joshua Moore had a great effort brilliantly saved and Conor Hughes followed up to make the score 2 - 0.
Joshua Moore (not missing his parents - in Paris for the World Cup Final !) and Daniel Pike combined in a great move that almost led to a third, but it was not to be and the game ended at 2 - 0.
3. vs Rumney AFC Result 0 - 1
Lisvane started well in the final game and Daniel Pike was narrowly wide with a tremendous effort from long range, which resulted in his boot flying off into the distance. Dad Martyn was clearly concerned at the prospect of having to purchase another pair, but the boot was retrieved and all was well!
Michael Gooding had taken over from Seb Davies in goal and looked safe whenever Rumney threatened.
Following Sean Bartlett's excellent run and cross, Joshua Moore missed a great opportunity and after Michael Gooding had made a fine save, the rebound was drilled home to give Rumney a half-time lead.
Whilst playing quite well, Lisvane had not threatened to score, but a second-half improvement saw Hugo Souto come close, although they could not force the equaliser and the game finished in a 0 - 1 defeat.

Rumney V Lisvane Orange 1-1
Rumney dominated the first half but despite a number of chances, they were unable to convert and score. The Oranges looked as if they needed a ‘wake-up call’ and were relieved to be on equal terms at half time which was helped by some good saves from Alex Le Grys (deputising for Alex Boyd).
The second half started much better and the Oranges began to win the ball and attack the opposition. There were good runs from Rhys Goldwin and Alex Maldonado on the wings. Then Ben Blackler took the ball well, controlled it and scored a great goal for the Oranges. Just a couple of minutes later and despite some great goalie saves from Alex Le Grys, Rumney were able to get a deflection and score themselves.
Although a little disappointing not to win most felt it was a fair result all round.
Man of the Match: 1st Half: Alex Le Grys, 2nd Half: Ben Blackler
Llanederyn Bulldogs V Lisvane Orange 3-0
Panthers started this game well and looked positive. But a simple defensive error allowed the Bulldogs and early goal. Panthers battled on and had to play a strong defensive game. Although we had few attacking opportunities the boys played with determination and at the end of the first half the Oranges looked as if they could pull the match back. There was good defending from Rhys Goldwin, Philip Back and Jack Bishop.
The second half also started positively but Panthers began to feel the pressure early on. The Bulldogs had too much time and space and began to dominate the game. In the end through not closing down their attackers, the Oranges were punished and two more goals slipped in.
Some good saves from James Salamon (also deputising for Alex Boyd) kept the Panthers in the game and there was a great late break on the wing and shot from Alex Maldonado which was kept out by the Bulldogs.
Man of the Match: 1st Half: Philip Back, 2nd Half: James Salamon
Lisvane Reds V Lisvane Orange 3-0
Both teams started well and played some competitive football although it was unclear whether either team gained any advantage from having an extra on the pitch – a lively dog out for his Saturday morning training session! The play was end to end and the Panthers began to dominate the half with very strong defending from Joseph Aziz. The best try came from a great cross in from Alex Maldonado to Iuean Wilkins who was unable to connect to score for the Oranges. It was 0-0 at half time and all to play for.
The Reds started stronger in the second half and began to move the ball around. By not closing the opposition down in the midfield they were able to score an unfortunate goal allowing them to take the lead. In trying to attack and get the ball back into our attacking half more opportunities presented themselves to the Reds. Panthers Orange lost confidence and another goal went through the defence by an opportunistic strike from the Reds.
Overall it was a competitive game, a well deserved victory by the Reds although the final score did not reflect the overall standard of play from the Oranges.

Lisvane Panthers Orange Versus Maindy Corries Black
Panthers were quick to take a grip of this game and kept the pressure up all through the first half. Maindy hardly got into the Panthers end of the pitch. Over a dozen corners rained into the Maindy goal mouth, most of them placed accurately by Alex Maldonado. All the Panther strikers were having a go but Maindy defended in mass and a goal was not to be. Jake Boyd was man of the half for keeping the strikers supplied.
Maindy came out fighting in the second half and Owen Dawes had to clear the ball off the goal line – twice! Panthers got back into the game but too late to recreate the first half pressure. Alex Boyd was man of the half for his fearless goalkeeping.
Result: Panthers 0 Maindy 0
Man of the Match: 1st Half, Jake Boyd 2nd Half, Alex Boyd
Lisvane Panthers Orange Versus Marshfield
The first half of this game was furious in midfield as each side fought to gain control. Marshfield came closest to scoring; Panthers were saved by the goal post. Rhys Golding was man of the half for a tremendous work rate and creative play down the wing.
Ieuan Wilkins wasted no time in putting his speed to good use in the second half supported by Eddie Hales. The Panthers started to look threatening and although Marshfield forced two great saves from Alex Boyd, the Wilkins/Maldonado combination was increasingly dangerous. Panthers kept the pressure up and were rewarded when an Alex Maldonado corner was stabbed in by Ieuan Wilkins. Moments later Fadi Aziz started a great run from inside the Panther’s half and made sure he was there to finish it off in the Marshfield goal mouth. Fadi Aziz was man of the half for consistent determination.
Result: Panthers 2 Marshfield 0
Man of the Match: 1st Half, Rhys Golding 2nd Half, Fadi Aziz
Lisvane Panthers Orange Versus Llanrumney United
The Panthers were nearly out of this game before they realised
they were in it. They struggled to get out of their own half and
Alex Boyd saved the day again (!) with good support from Jack
Bishop. Faddi Aziz managed to get a few attacks going with Ben
Blackler and Alex Le Grys found the space to curl the ball over
the Llanrumney defence and their keeper. Llanrumney were quick
to respond and piled on some sustained pressure before scoring
on a quick break. The play then swung to the other end and Ben
Blackler’s shot was just wide.
The second half was dashing end to end football and either team
could have won the day. Man of the half was Ieuan Wilkins whose
pace gave Llanrumney several scares.
Result: Panthers 1 Llanrumney 1

1. vs Heath Park Rangers Result 1 - 1
Panthers started in bright fashion, but were shocked in the the 4th minute when Rangers broke away and, following a fierce drive against the post, the rebound was forced home past 'keeper Seb Davies.
Despite having by far the majority of the play, Panthers could not find the net until the two Joshuas - Caswell and Moore combined well, before the latter drove home the equaliser.
Although they had 80% of the play, Panthers could not score again and the game finished as a frustrating draw.
2. vs Thornhill White. Result 0 - 0
Once again, this game saw a bright start from the Blacks and, in the first few minutes, Daniel Pike blazed over, Joshua Moore shot just wide and Sean Bartlett came close from an excellent free kick. However, Thornhill were not to be outdone and Connor Flynn and Michael Gooding were defending with vigour and half time came with the scoresheet blank.
The second period was dominated by Panthers and when Seb Davies was called upon to make a rare save, he set up an attack with a quick throw and Joshua Caswell just failed to connect with Joshua Moore's cross. A goal-less draw was the final result and the game even failed to capture the imagination of the ever-faithful Mums on the touchline !
3. vs Grangetown Claret. Result 2 - 1
This was by far the game of the day, with both sides playing some excellent football in a fiercely contested match. Panthers threw everything at the hosts with Hugo Souto prominent in attacks down the left flank. Daniel Melhuish also shone and it was good to see him (and his Mum's biscuits !) return to the fold following a dibilitating injury.
The visitors took the lead with a superb goal : Sean Bartlett drilled in another great corner and Joshua Moore rose like the proverbial salmon to head home. Dad Andy immediately claimed an assist saying that he had told his son where to position himself for the corner, but this was questioned by the other fathers !
The lead was short lived, however, and Grangetown equalised from a cracking shot and only an excellent save by Seb Davies prevented the Blacks from falling behind.
Half-time came at 1 - 1.
The second half was just as evenly contested and after Grangetown had hit the bar from only 6 yards out, Joshua Moore rifled home the winner into the top corner from 15 yards out. The hosts pressed for an equaliser, but Michael Gooding, who had taken over in goal, kept them at bay.
A cracking game ended with a narrow 2 - 1 win for the Panthers Blacks.

Lisvane Panthers Orange Versus Heol Hir FC Red
Panthers were put under pressure by Heol at the outset and Alex Boyd prevented them taking an early lead as the last line of defence. Owen Clark pulled the Panthers defence together and then they got a grip of midfield and struck at Heol. Alex Le Grys and Rhys Golding made a good partnership but just could not get the ball on target. Jason Bayes joined in and shot just wide. Rhys Golding was man of the half for turning the Panthers game around.
Panthers came out fighting in the second half and Joseph Aziz persevered in the Heol box to scramble in a well deserved goal. Philip Back held back Heol and kept the ball going up to the strikers who began stringing endless passes and using the full width of the pitch. Heol looked lost and although they hit the bar on a solitary break Panthers were unlucky not to get another brace of goals. Man of the half was a difficult choice because the teamwork was so great but Joseph Aziz was chosen for his great display of determination.
Result: Panthers 1 Heol Hir FC Red 0
Man of the Match: 1st Half, Rhys Golding; 2nd Half, Joseph Aziz

Lisvane Panthers Orange Versus Maindy Corries Black
Panthers fancied their chances on this one but Corries broke through quickly and their centre forward put in a powerful shot that Alex Boyd could only just get his finger tips to and Panthers were one goal down. Alex Maldonado took the ball to the Corries tirelessly and had a strong shot saved superbly but the Panthers midfield looked nervous. Fadi Aziz rallied the team built a partnership with Alex Maldonado and Jake Boyd that menaced the Corries up to half time. Corries looked relieved as the whistle blew for the break. Man of the half was Fadi Aziz for firing up the Panthers.

Lisvane Panthers U10 Orange
Three changes were made at half time in the Panthers team and the introduction of rested legs made a difference. The Panthers gave the Corries no space in midfield. Runs up the wing, long crosses and a string of corners had the crowd anticipating a convincing Panthers win but Corries survived. Then Alex Le Grys curled in a long cross which was too awkward for the Corries goalkeeper who fumbled it into his own net for the Panthers equaliser. Panthers kept the pressure up but with almost all the Corries players in their own box the Panthers failed to find the net again, not for want of trying. Man of the half was Alex Maldonado who tried every trick and skill to make the winning goal.

Lisvane Panthers Orange Versus Grangetown FC Claret
Panthers have been unbeaten for five games and whilst the prospect of playing the physical and skilful Clarets would have been daunting last season, this season the Panthers were not going to give in. As soon as the whistle went for the start of play they took the ball to the Clarets and Alex Maldonado put in a sharp strike that went in off the post. The Panthers were one goal up and the Clarets did not like it. Clarets piled the pressure on. Alex Le Grys used his forehead, for once, to clear off the line after a set piece but eventually the Clarets got behind the Panthers defence with some fast movement and snapped in two goals. Philip Back put in a tremendous effort to keep wrestling the ball from the Clarets and managed to keep the Panthers strikers supplied. The Panthers got in some long shots and a few corners as the half closed. Philip Back was man of the half for standing up to the Clarets and keeping the Panthers lively.
Where's the ball?
The second half was a real battle in midfield. Neither side got the upper hand and both broke through occasionally to make a chance or two. Alex Boyd made a great save to keep Panthers hopes alive. Fadi Aziz and Jack Bishop fought hard to frustrate the Clarets. At the other end Alex Maldonado and the tireless Rhys Golding gave Clarets a couple of frights. The Clarets became more physical but Panthers were not to be intimidated. On a break the Clarets managed to conjure up a tricky shot and get in their third goal but a two goal lead did not reflect the balance of possession and play. The Panthers can be proud of their performance. Jack Bishop deserves to be man of the half for his great performance over the weekend.

Lisvane Panthers Orange versus Rumney
With only one defeat in the last six games the home crowd were hoping for Panthers to make the most of the sunshine. Unfortunately the start to this game was not too bright. After some to and for, Rumney got the better of midfield and started looking dangerous. Philip Back and Jack Bishop worked hard to keep Rumney out but they kept the pressure up and scored with a cracking header.
Man of the half was Jack Bishop for withstanding the intense pressure coming from the Rumney mid field.
Panthers made a number of changes at half time and the pressure from Rumney was negated somewhat but they still looked the more lively team, and the great passing we saw from Panthers last week just did not happen. Alex Boyd kept Panthers in the game with some great reflex saves but Rumney were rewarded for their sharpness eventually.
Man of the half was Alex Boyd for his cat like agility.
Final Score: Panthers 0 – Rumney 2.
Lisvane Panters Orange verseus Pentyrch Red
Panthers got off to a better start in this game and took the ball to the Pentyrch end. Pentyrch made some penetrating breaks though Overall Panthers had the balance of possession but could not cut through the Pentyrch defence.
Man of the half was Ben Blackler who energised the midfield.
Panthers made a number of changes at half time again. There was some end to end running and Pentyrch’s centre forward found himself through and alone. He steered the ball with some neat dribbling into the Panther’s goal. Panthers built up some pressure in return. Ieuan Wilkins went full stretch to get on the end of a corner but just could not get the ball to the inside of the post. He then managed to break down the wing but his shot was just wide.
Man of the half was Alex Maldonado for livening Panthers up in the second half.
Final Score: Panthers 0 – Pentyrch 1.
Lisvane Panthers Orange versus Lisvane Panthers Black
This did not seem to be the day to take on the always confident and skilful Blacks. Oranges took the ball to the Blacks from the start and the flow went end to end. The Blacks strikers were getting sharper in their shooting though. Alex Boyd and the bar kept the ball out but eventually the Blacks scrambled the ball in after Alex had made a brave parrying save. Panthers were up for a fight though and Alex Le Grys, Rhys Golding and Ieuan Wilkins found that a long ball to a winger could get behind the Blacks defence.
Man of the half was Ieuan Wilkins for worrying the Blacks with his pace.
Panthers again looked lively at the start of the second half and Joseph Aziz consistently blocked the Blacks, before getting the ball up to Alex Le Grys who once again found laying the ball off to the wings the best way forward. Panthers got in some good crosses and were rewarded with a goal stabbed in by Ieuan Wilkins. Blacks were not amused and piled the pressure on in response. Shots were fired at range and they made good use of the air to get a powerful header scrapping over the bar. Orange held out though until literally the last kick of the game when Blacks slid the ball into the Orange net.
Man of the half was Joseph Aziz for great determination in defence.
Final Score: Orange 1 – Black 2.
New Addition – Supporters Club Voicebox: ‘If Orange had played the first two games like they played the last against Blacks, Orange would have had two wins’.

1. vs Pentyrch Reds Result : 2 - 0
Panthers started brightly and soon laid seige to the Pentyrch goal. Joshua Moore set off on a solo run, which ended with an smooth finish for the opening goal of the game. Soon after, a great move involving Conor Hughes and Sean Bartlett ended with Ethan Grant going close. The boys had started in fine style and clearly the coaches' ban on Friday night drinking had had the desired effect ! As Pentyrch slowly came back into the game, the Panthers' defence stood firm, with newcomer Tom Mabley dominating in his central defensive role. Half time came with the score at 1 - 0.
The second period was more even, but the Lisvane goal was rarely threatened thanks to sound defending from Connor Flynn and Michael Gooding in particular. Then, following a flowing move, a Sean Bartlett shot could only be parried by the Pentyrch 'keeper and Conor Hughes struck home a sublime volley to make it 2 - 0. Coach and Dad Bryan was clearly stunned by this level of skill and and this must now bring in a question of parentage ! An excellent all-round display ended in a 2 - 0 win.
Man of the Match : Thomas Mabley
2. vs AFC Rumney Result : 1 - 1
The first half was evenly contested and, after a fierce Tom Mabley shot was blocked, Joshua Caswell was left with an easy finish to put the Panthers in front. Seb Davies then made two good saves in succession as Rumney pressed for an equaliser and the game became end to end, on the larger than usual pitches at Llandaff Fields. Then came a controversial moment, when Ethan Grant was scythed down close to goal, only for referee Bryan Hughes to wave away the Panthers' appeals. Murmerings of "bottled it !" were heard on the touchline. To add to the players' frustration, Rumney then produced a good break down the left and an angled drive was too strong for the clutching fingertips of Seb Davies and the scores were level.
The second half saw no further goals, but Panthers pressed on several ocassions with Dan Melhuish shining on the left and Connor Flynn nearly scoring the second goal of his career. They had a number of corners awarded and these were superbly executed by Sean Bartlett, but no one was able to finish the job and the game ended in stalemate.
Man of the Match : Sean Bartlett
3. vs Lisvane Panthers Orange Result : 2 - 1
Because the Orange team play in orange and the Black team play in orange, with some black, it was decided that the Blacks should turn their shirts inside out for this game, giving a whole new meaning to the expression "big girls' blouse" !
Michael Gooding took over in goal for this final game and was soon called into action. Joshua Moore was looking a constant threat to the Orange defence and, after one brilliant run, the ball fell to Sean Bartlett, who shot just over. Then, Dan Melhuish produced a stinging shot that was only parried and Joshua Caswell was on hand to finish. Half time came with the score at 1 - 0.
The second half started badly for the Blacks and some sloppy defending allowed an Orange equaliser. The defenders must have been going to Ninian Park too often ! Sean Bartlett drilled in another great corner and Tom Mably, sent up to try for a winner, headed just over. Joshua Moore went off with an injury and, it appeared , that the Blacks' chances of winning may have gone with him. However, with Orange fans howling for the final whistle, Joshua Caswell set off on a strong run, which ended with him firing past the 'keeper for the winner. Referee Bryan Hughes was certainly in the spotlight today, but he was adamant that his watch had been serviced by Ratners only the week before !

Lisvane Panthers Orange Versus Marlboro Sports White
Marlboro gripped the midfield, and began to put the pressure on Panthers from the very beginning of this match. Jason Bayes made things difficult for Marlboro though and they had to work hard to get their first goal. Panthers let their spirits fall and Marlboro took advantage by dominating possession. Some changes were made to the Panthers team and the defence began to show better resolve, only to be outdone by a spectacular Marlboro shot that flew over the Panthers heads and bounced in off the post at top right. Marlboro was now full of confidence. Alex Boyd had to make more good saves and Faddi Aziz had to clear off the goal line. The half finished with Panthers threatening the Marlboro goal for the first time since the opening minutes. Man of the half was Faddi Aziz for stiffening the Panthers defence.
Panthers made some more changes at half time but before they could settle down Marlboro went three ahead with a wicked shot from the half way line that surprised everyone. Panthers began to have more presence in midfield but Marlboro was still hungry for more goals. Philip Back had to clear off the goal line and a Marlboro lob would have bounced in if a grass clod on the goal line had not caused it to bounce out! Marlboro kept persevering and was rewarded with their fourth goal. Panthers still had a slice of midfield play though and Alex Maldonado caused Marlboro problems. In the closing minutes he broke down the wing and scored a great goal off the post. Man of the half was Alex Maldonado for his flare in midfield and a cracking goal.
Man of the Match: 1st Half, Faddi Aziz; 2nd Half, Alex Maldonado
Result: Panthers 1 Marlboro Sports White 4
Lisvane Panthers Orange Versus Llanedeyrn Green
Panthers went into a long huddle with the coach before this game and whatever was said to the players, had an effect. Alex Le Grys laid off some good balls to Ieuan Wilkins and Alex Maldonado who both ran hard and their pace scared the Greens. Alex Maldonado put a shot just over the bar and Panthers forced a few corners as the Greens struggled to find rhythm. Suddenly Greens broke through and their centre forward powered a shot home. Panthers looked stunned and before they could recover a complete breakdown of communication in the Panthers defence gave Greens a gift they did not refuse. As the half came to close Panthers were two down despite having had the majority of play. Man of the half was Rhys Golding for his wing play.
Panthers were obviously annoyed with themselves and came out in the second half with a mind to put things right. Rhys Golding was lightning on the wing and was rewarded quickly with his first goal. A real battle developed in midfield as Greens fought to hold on to their lead. Panthers were using the width of the field well though and a great cross from Ieuan Wilkins was well struck by James Salamon to hit the back of the net. With a win in sight Panthers lost some composure as the team became impatient for a third goal. Greens broke through as a result on two or more occasions and Panthers had to rely on the bravery of Alex Boyd and the determination of Faddi Aziz to keep the score level. Greens began to look more confident and put a shot just over the Panthers goal. Then the Greens discovered the wings for themselves and a good cross was stabbed into the Panthers goal in the dying moments. Man of the half was James Salamon for his goal and determination.
Man of the Match: 1st Half, Rhys Golding; 2nd Half, James Salamon
Result: Panthers 2 Llanedeyrn Green 3
Lisvane Panthers Orange Versus Danescourt YC
Panthers felt their way tentatively into this game but soon realized they could make their mark. Danescourt had no answer to the speed of Ieuan Wilkins but it was not his day for goal scoring, however hard he tried the ball would not roll for him at the final touch. Alex Le Grys was knocking on long and short balls that worried Danescourt and Alex Maldonado skilfully kicked a short one from Le Grys into the Danescourt goal. Half time and one up the Panthers rallied to the coach with a smile, despite the biting cold. Man of the half was Ieuan Wilkins who made it a thoroughly uncomfortable one for Danescourt.
Danescourt looked more lively at the start of the second half but James Salamon was sure in goal and directed the defence well. Philip Back and Jason Bayes kept Danescourt at bay and Panthers began to dominate again. The Panthers midfielders and wingers were getting some good balls into the Danescourt box and the Panthers strikers were waiting but could not connect for a second goal. Man of the half was Philip Back for good defence work and for creative play down the wings.
Man of the Match: 1st Half, Ieuan Wilkins; 2nd Half, Philip Back
Result: Panthers 1 Danescourt YC 0
Supporters Club Voicebox: Panthers seem to get better as the morning goes on. Perhaps they are staying up too late on Fridays nights and are still half asleep during the first game. Mums and Dads please note.

Lisvane Panthers Under 10 Black
1. vs Ty Celyn Result : 1 - 1
On a sloping pitch at Greenway Road, the Panthers exerted early pressure and, following good work by, firstly Sean Bartlett and then Ethan Grant, Joshua Caswell missed two good opportunities. After completely dominating the first period, Panthers allowed Ty Celyn to take the lead right on the stroke of half time, when a fierce shot on to the underside of the crossbar was cleared by 'keeper Seb Davies , only for the referee to award a goal, following a consultation with a passing pedestrian!
The second half continued in the same vein and eventually, following a corner by Joshua Moore, Daniel Melhuish drove home the equaliser. More pressure failed to bring further goals, so, after having 80% of the play, the Panthers had to be content with a 1 - 1 draw.
Man of the Match : Conor Hughes
2. vs Canton Rangers Result : 4 - 0
As this game got underway, the biting wind was starting to penetrate the hardy bunch of spectators on the line, who were bemoaning the lack of any catering facilities at this venue! In an effort to keep the parents happy and, therefore, warm, the players put in an excellent performance against a team that had won its first game 7 - 0.
Canton started impressively and only a smart diving save by Seb Davies kept the scores level. The defence was being stretched, but good work by Connor Flynn, Michael Gooding and Hugo Souto kept Canton at bay. Then Hugo Souto put in a tremendous run and fed Sean Bartlett, who coolly rounded the 'keeper to make the score 1 - 0 and half time came with Panthers just ahead.
The second half saw the best of this Panthers side and, with the coaches rotating the squad, all the players were given an opportunity to show their skills. Hugo Souto came close and, when a Dan Melhuish shot was parried, Joshua Moore was on hand to make it 2 - 0. The same player then produced a great finish to make it 3 - 0. A fourth goal came a few moments later, with the two Joshuas both claiming the last touch. As it completed his hat -trick, the supporters felt that it should be awarded to Master Moore! In the closing minutes, Michael Gooding, who had taken over in goal, made a brave diving save and rounded off a first-class performance.
Man of the Match : Conor Flynn.
3. vs Whitchurch Result : 3 - 0.
Following a bright start, Joshua Caswell and Seb Davies swapped passes, before the former slotted home the opening goal. Conor Hughes then put in a perfect cross and Ethan Grant finished well, followed by his usual celebration and the score was 2 - 0. Joshua Moore and Ethan Grant both had good attempts saved, before a fine effort by Joshua Caswell was blocked and Seb Davies was on hand to finish from close range and make the victory safe. Stand-in 'keeper, Sean Bartlett was even able to move forward to take a corner, such was the Panthers' dominance. While all this was taking place, anxious Dad, Terry Bartlett was pacing the line, frantically waiting to leave the ground for a lesser fixture at Ninian Park! Defender, Tom Mably nearly added his name to the scoresheet, but the game finished at 3 - 0.
Man of the Match : Joshua Caswell.

1. vs St Albans Result : 0 - 1
An indication of the weather conditions awaiting the hardy spectators was apparent when the brass monkeys had fallen from the gates to Moreland Park !
St Albans opened impressively and tested Panthers' 'keeper Seb Davies on several occasions and Panthers had done well to keep the half-time score at 0 - 0. In the second period, Panthers had a little more of the ball, but fell behind when St. Albans scrambled home the first goal from close range. The game had now become end-to-end and, in the dying moments, a flowing move involving Dan Melhuish and Joshua Moore, ended with Michael Gooding just failing to snatch the equaliser.Tom Mably and Ethan Grant had excelled in defence, but the game ended in a 1 - 0 defeat.
Man of the match : Michael Gooding
2. vs Heol Hir Result 1 - 1
Following his exploits in the previous game, Michael Gooding took over in goal. Joshua Moore had an excellent shot saved, but soon was on target again and found the bottom corner to give the Panthers the lead. They were well on top at this stage and it was completely against the run of play when, with the defence in disarray, Heol Hir broke away and a speculative shot was deflected into the net for the equaliser. Ethan Grant had a fine effort saved and Hugo Souto headed a Sean Bartlett corner just over the top, while Joshua Moore hit the post with a fine effort.Amazingly, the half-time score was 1 - 1.
In the second half, Dan Melhuish guested for Heol Hir, who were a player short and this brought some friendly banter from the other Panthers' players. The bitter cold was beginning to bite and, with little goalmouth action, the spectators were finding concentration difficult. Sean Bartlett had a near miss and Conor Hughes had a tremendous shot tipped over by the Hir 'keeper. After dominating 80% of the game, Panthers trooped off disappointed to have only shared the spoils.
Man of the Match : Conor Hughes
3. vs Marlborough Sports Whites Result : 1 - 2
Marlborough had the better of the early exchanges, but as Panthers came more into the game, Tom Mably went close and Joshua Moore headed a Sean Bartlett corner just over.Sean then struck a long range effort that crept past the Marlborough 'keeper to give Panthers the lead.A thoroughly entertaining first half ended at 1 - 0.
In this game, Joshua Caswell had switched from attack to defence and he and Conor Flynn had performed well to help keep the lead. However, all their hard work was undone when some sloppy defending led to Marlborough levelling, with a shot deflected past stand-in 'keeper Sean Bartlett. Dan Melhuish then produced a magical turn which led to Joshua Caswell going close and Joshua Moore hit a post late on. Marlborough then launched a last attack and when a powerful shot hit the post, the rebound was scrambled home for the winner, much to the Panthers' bitter disappointment.
Man of the Match : Hogo Souto
As the spectators left the ground, several were treated at the temporary Frostbite Clinic, but, it is believed that there were no lasting injuries !

Lisvane Panthers Under 10 Black
Firstly, great thanks must be given to Tony Lawrence of Rhiwbina Dons for showing the initiative to organise a four team series of games at the Treforest all-weather pitch, even though every saturated, soggy parent may not exactly have been thinking that at 11.30 on the morning !
1. vs Thornhill Whites Reslut 0 - 3
Although allowance must be given for the weather conditions
and the lack of familiarity with the Astroturf surface,
this can only be described as a dismal performance by
the Panthers. Seb Davies' goal was under almost constant
threat throughout the game and it came as no surprise
when Thornhill cruised into a 1 - 0 half-time lead.
Substitute Tom Mably came on at half-time for Michael
Gooding, but the change had little effect on the flow
of the game. Following a well driven corner, Thornhill
doubled their lead with an excellent headed goal and
while Joshua Moore and Dan Melhuish, in particular,
tried to stage a fightback, a further goal following
a goalmouth scramble completed the win for Thornhill.
Man of the match : Mrs Jenkins ( Tea lady )
2.vs Rhiwbina Dons Result 0 - 2
The eagerly awaited clash with "the dons"
was preceded by former Panthers' star Daniel Pike leading
out his side with the captain's armband for the occasion.
(this is a bit of dramatic licence as they were already
on the pitch ! ).
Sadly, Panthers continued where they left off in the
first half of this game and Rhiwbina rocked Seb Davies'
crossbar with a bullet-like effort in the first few
minutes. Two goals in as many minutes gave Rhiwbina
the lead and a heavy defeat looked on the cards at this
point.Half-time came with the score at 2-0.
As in the first game, Panthers' rare attempts on goal
were usually made or inspired by Joshua Moore although
Tom Mably and Conor Flynn were doing their utmost to
tighten the defence. Joshua Moore then had a great run
and set up Sean Bartlett, who was unlucky not to score
and a good chance was created for Joshua Caswell, but
he shot wide.Tom Mably's header from another excellent
Sean Bartlett corner was well saved by the Dons' 'keeper
and, although the game ended in defeat, a much-improved
second-half performance lifted the boys' spirits for
the final game.
Man of the Match : Joshua Moore
3. vs Eglwys Newydd (Whichurch for non Welsh speakers ! ) Result 3 - 1
For the final game, Michael Gooding took over in goal
from Seb Davies, who played in midfield. Panthers started
in a much brighter fashion and Sean Bartlett was soon
threatening the Whitchurch goal. Ethan Grant, who had
a quiet morning, sparked into life and shot Panthers
ahead. Whitchurch were unable to clear a Sean Bartlett
corner and the defender could only deflect the ball
into his own net to make it 2 - 0. An excellent move
then set up Ethan Grant for a third and, at last, the
Panthers were playing as their supporters know they
can. Half time came with the score at 3 - 0.
The second period was never going to match the first
although Panthers still controlled most of the play.
Sloppy defending allowed Whitchurch to pull a goal back,
but Panthers ran out worthy winners at 3 - 1.

Lisvane Panthers Orange vs Ty Celyn
This was the first league game of the year for Panthers. It began with a tussle in mid- field and it appeared that the teams were going to be evenly matched. They certainly were for much of the first half. Jack Bishop was strong in defence and Alex Le Grys and Alex Maldonado were testing the Whites across the width of the field. However, as the half wore on Panthers began to look uneasy. Whites hit the bar and Alex Boyd kept the sheet clean with a brave save off the feet of the Whites centre forward and an agile parry of a Whites shot to see it swirl outside the left post. The Panthers defence began to lose structure and were relieved at the half time whistle. Alex Boyd was man of the half for fearless goalkeeping.
Whites confidence remained high after half time and they built up the pressure on the Panthers. There was a goalmouth scramble as Whites hit the post and a number of Panther players before rolling the ball in for a goal. Panthers were unable to get into attacking stride and Whites kept the pressure up. They managed to hit the post again and see a shot go narrowly wide before full time. Man of the half was Philip Back for robust defending.
Man of the Match: 1st Half: Alex Boyd, 2nd Half: Philip Back
Result: Panthers 0 Ty Celyn 1
Lisvane Panthers Orange Versus Marlborough Blacks
Next game was against the mighty Blacks – a vast squad and almost as many coaches. Possession was shared and a repeat of the 7 goal defeat at the last meet did not look to be on the cards. Panthers were holding their own. Then the killing instinct of the Blacks shone through as their physical centre forward slotted a goal bottom right and another shortly after with a strong volley. Panthers did not let their heads go down though and ran hard at the Blacks in revenge. Ieuan Wilkins ran through the Blacks defence and pumped a clever shot through the legs of the Blacks goalkeeper to bring Panthers right back into the game. Blacks were stunned and the Panthers began to look dangerous. Man of the half was Ieuan Wilkins for making the goal.
Panthers came out in the second half looking lively but a failure to clear the ball was exploited by Blacks to make a two goal lead. They then went on to hit the bar from a free kick. Panthers did not give up though and Alex Maldonado gave the Blacks three frights as he hit the side netting and then put the Blacks goalkeeper to full stretch with two shots on target. Man of the half was Joseph Aziz for keeping the Panthers moving forward.
Man of the Match: 1st Half: Iuean Wilkins, 2nd Half: Joseph Aziz
Result: Panthers 1 Marlborough Blacks 3
Lisvane Panthers Orange Versus Whitchurch
The Panthers seemed lifted by their efforts against Marlborough and tore at Whitchurch. They gripped possession and fired a number of shots at the Whitchurch goal but began to get frustrated when the goal refused to happen. Jake Boyd kept the mid field running though and it really did look like just a matter of time before Panthers were rewarded. Man of the half was Alex Le Grys for laying off the balls that kept the play in the Whitchurch half.
Panthers came out fighting in the second half determined to win the game. Ieuan Wilkins found his true pace and ran the Whitchurch defence ragged. Alex Le Grys built upon the team’s hard work to get the ball onto his favoured right foot and into the Whitchurch net. Suddenly the Panthers looked confident and most fancied a gp at goal. Ben Blackler was enjoying his role up front and made some creative play. The passes flowed, and the Whitchurch goalkeeper was tested severely, but it took until almost the final whistle before Alex Maldonado calmly scored the second at the end of a beautiful string of Panther passes. Man of the half was Ben Blackler for his energy in running at Whitchurch.
Man of the Match: 1st Half: Alex Le Grys, 2nd Half: Ben Blackler
Result: Panthers 2 Whitchurch 0

1. vs Rhiwbina Dons Result 1 - 1
This clash between these old rivals turned out to
be a much closer contest than last week's game and
the quality of performance was a credit to both teams
and their coaching staff.
An early defensive lapse allowed Rhiwbina to break
away unchallenged and a simple goal resulted to give
the Dons the lead. Panthers were playing well, but
could not exert enough pressure on the Dons goal to
force the equaliser and half time came with the score
still at 0 - 1.
The second period was real end-to-end stuff and on
three occasions Dons created goalscoring chances only
to be foiled by excellent saves by 'keeper Seb Davies.
At the other end, Tom Mably and Hugo Souto both came
close, before Joshua Moore drilled home to level the
scores. The excitement continued to the end and the
teams left the field to a standing ovation after a
classic draw.
Man of the match : Seb Davies
2. vs Pentyrch Result : 5 - 2
The coaches rotated the squad for the second game
and Michael Gooding was given the chance to show his
goalkeeping skills for this game. Sean Bartlett came
close before an excellent run and cross by Joshua
Moore was superbly volleyed home by Ethan Grant for
the first goal of the game. Joshua Moore then went
on a great run and finished with an individual effort
, before Hugo Souto and Conor Hughes set up Ethan
Grant for his second to give Panthers a comfotrable
half-time lead of 3 - 0.
Early in the second half, a flowing move set up Hugo
Souto for the fourth goal and coach Brian Hughes immediately
claimed that this was to be credited to him for his
innovative "total football" ! Joshua Caswell
had now taken over between the sticks, but he was
not helped by some sloppy defending and Pentyrch struck
twice in as many minutes to make the scoreline look
very different. However, normal service was soon resumed
and Seb Davies struck a firm shot into the corner
of the net to leave the final score at 5 - 2.
Man of the Match : Ethan Grant
3. vs Rumney Result 0 - 3
This was a strange game, with Panthers having plenty
of possession, but were unable to score and finished
up being well beaten. Rumney put together some good
attacks, but, with Tom Mably and Connor Flynn looking
solid in defence, Panthers were holding firm. However,
a quick breakaway led to Rumney taking the lead, with
Seb Davies having no chance and half-time came at
0 - 1.
Panthers had most of the play in the second half,
but Rumney were a difficult nut to crack, with their
goalkeeper looking very solid. In the last two minutes
Rumney attacked and scored twice to give an unrealistic
reflection to the scoreline and a wake-up call to
the Panthers boys, following their excellent performances
in the first two matches.
Man of the Match: Tom Mably

The pattern continued in the second period and featured two great finishes by Connor Flynn. Sean Bartlett also scored with a fine shot and the closing stages were played with his team mates all trying to give Master Flynn his hat-trick. However, it was not to be and, although the final score was by a Panthers player, it was Dan Melhuish who deflected a shot into his own net to give a final score of 6 - 1.
Man of the Match : Conor Flynn
2. vs Whitchurch Blue Result : 6 - 0.
This was another strong performance from the Panthers' boys and first half goals from Joshua Moore, Ethan Grant and an own goal saw them go into half-time with a 3 - 0 lead.
The second half was much the same, although Ethan Grant - who was much in the wars this week - was injured when the Whitchurch 'keeper came down heavily on him. Whitchurch had some big lads and, one in particular, wearing no. 38, had the Panthers fans querying whether it could relate to his age ! Second half strikes from Conor Hughes with a great finish and an own goal made it 5 - 0 and the rout was completed when a flowing move ended with a lovely flick from Tom Mably ending in the path of Seb Davies, who drilled home into the bottom corner to see the final score at 6 - 0.
Man of the Match ; Ethan Grant
3. vs Fairwater Result : 0 - 1
This was, by a country mile, the game of the day, with both sides producing some excellent football to entertain a good crowd. Fairwater started the stronger and, it came as no surprise, when a long range effort went under Seb Davies' body to give them the lead and it remained at this score until half-time.
The second period was a different story, with Panthers exerting heavy pressure, particularly with a string of superb Sean Bartlett corners - all of which went to waste. If the coaching team can find a formula to capitalize on this feature of play, it must surely bring a string of goals in the future.Tom Mably and Ethan Grant both went close from these kicks and, with Conor Hughes and Dan Melhuish threatening down the left flank, it seemed a goal must come, with Joshua Moore always being a threat to the Fairwater defence. However, this game had a final twist, when Fairwater broke away and almost doubled their lead, but a thunderous shot heading for the top corner was superbly saved by Seb Davies and the game ended 0 - 1 although there were questions as to whether or not the referee had remembered to turn his watch from Summer Time last October !
Man of the Match: Joshua Moore

Lisvane Panthers Orange Versus Thornhill Whites
Thornhill Whites got a grip on possession from the outset but they never looked confident on the attack. Joseph Aziz was standing in as goalkeeper and commanded his area firmly. He made a couple of brave saves and then threw out the ball for Alex Maldonado to race upfield and lift the ball over the Whites goalkeeper before dipping under the bar. One nil to Panthers and Whites were stunned. Whites picked up possession again and managed to hit the bar but the Panthers defence, especially Jack Bishop, kept alert and enabled Alex Maldonado to break away again and put in an accurate cross for Rhys Golding to tap in. Two nil to Panthers.
Man of the half was Jack Bishop for his energetic defensive play.
Whites once again took a grip on possession in the second half and built up pressure but did not look sharp on the strike. Panthers managed a spell in the Whites box though. Alex Le Grys could not get past the Whites defence so he passed calmly back for Rhys Golding to blast a shot that the Whites keeper could only fumble over his own goal line. Three nil to Panthers and Whites were shocked.
Man of the half was Philip Back for robust defending to keep a clean sheet for Panthers.
Result: Panthers 3 Whites 0
Lisvane Panthers Orange Versus Whitchurch
Panthers were full of confidence from the start and flew at Whitchurch. The Panthers passed the ball at will and piled on the pressure but unlike the first game they found it difficult to strike the ball home. Eventually Ieuan Wilkins struck the ball to score after a string of accurate passes to make it one nil to Panthers. Just before half time Whitchurch won a corner and knocked in a ball at the near post for the equaliser.
Man of the half was Jason Bayes for keeping Whitchurch in their own half for all but the one corner.
Panthers were annoyed at letting Whitchurch get equal and came out in the second half looking highly determined. Owen Dawes put several long balls into the Whitchurch box and then put one in from the half way line that Ieuan Wilkins was waiting for. The Whitchurch keeper misjudged the ball and it went in without Ieuan having to touch it. Owen’s first goal and Panthers back on top. Panthers passed the ball around with style and piled on the pressure. Ieuan Wilkins got his second having found unchallenged space on the wing. Three one to Panthers. Just before full time Owen whipped a shot just over the Whitchurch bar – on this performance he will not wait long for his next goal.
Man of the half was Owen Dawes for targeting the Whitchurch box so consistently well.
Result: Panthers 3 Whitchurch 1
Lisvane Panthers Orange Versus Pentwyn Dynamos
The Dynamos have a fierce reputation but Panthers were riding high. Panthers were let off in the opening minutes when Dynamos hit the post but they settled down and worked hard to keep the sheet clean. The battle was in mid field and Panthers held their own but the sweat was pouring out of them in the mid morning sun.
Man of the half was Joseph Aziz for being so assured in the Panther’s goal.
Dynamos managed to get a grip of mid field as the second half wore on and gradually turned on more and more pressure. Panthers kept alert though and James Salamon looked particularly sharp as the lone Panther up front. He covered as much ground as three men and troubled Dynamos. The game ended with Panthers surviving a string of Dynamo corners. Panthers showed tremendous spirit and maturity to achieve a draw.
Man of the half was James Salamon for running at the opposition so effectively.
Result: Panthers 0 Dynamos 0
Supporters Voice – best performance yet. Discipline, organisation, commitment and skill – Panthers displayed all. Unbeatable!

1. vs Whitchurch Blue Result : 3 - 0
This was a repeat of last week's fixture and Panthers continued where they left off - dominating the game for long periods. Tom Mably, in a forward visit went close, before he opened the scoring with a neat finish. Sean Bartlett then had a fine effort saved and it was from his corner that Ethan Grant doubled the lead to leave the half-time score at 2 - 0.New signing from arch rivals Rhiwbina Dons, Stefan Oliver was showing some nice touches and supporters were soon aware why Panthers had splashed out on a big money deal to bring him to the club. Some excellent moves involving Stefan, Dan Melhuish and Josh Caswell tore Whitchurch apart, before Joshua Moore made the score 3 - 0 with a neat finish. Hugo Souto was a persistent threat down the left flank and this one-sided contest ended in a 3 - 0 victory.
Man of the Match : Josh Caswell
2. vs Urdd Result : 2 - 0
Panthers exerted early pressure and Tom Mably came close with a header from a typical quality corner from Sean Bartlett. Soon afterwards, Joshua Moore opened the scoring with a crisp volley and Panthers were well in command. In a burst of attacks, Hugo Souto, Tom Mably and Joshua Moore all hit the woodwork (metalwork if you wish to be pedantic) and Urdd were fortunate to be only one goal behind at the interval. The second half was more even, but did feature a Hugo Souto tackle of which "Chopper Harris" would have been proud! The game ended controversially when a shot from Stefan Oliver was awarded as a goal only when dad Russ Mably was spotted furiously waving his umbrella to indicate that the ball had crossed the line! It is believed that the Urdd contingent were unhappy, but, as they were speaking another language, the Press Box were uncertain about this! The game ended at 2 - 0.
Man of the Match : Stefan Oliver
3. vs St. Albans Result : 1 - 3
This was widely expected to be Match of the Day and the first half certainly lived up to all expectations. A move involving Conor Hughes led to a chance created for Ethan Grant, which he finished with aplomb, to give Panthers the lead. However, St Albans are strong opponents and soon equalised with a great header from a corner. Half-time came with the score at 1 - 1. There was a noticeable lack of MAGS (Mothers and grandmothers) in attendance today, but this was understandable with excuses like "watching other children" being accepted by the Supporters Club!
The second period started with a somewhat puzzling rotation of playing resources from the Panthers coaching team and the side found it difficult to cope with St. Albans wave of attacks, although Connor Flynn, in particular, strove to keep the scoreline even. However, the boys in yellow proved too strong and, it came as no surprise when they took the lead. 'Keeper Seb Davies was injured trying to save this goal and Josh Caswell took over between the sticks (poles?). In the dying seconds, St Albans netted a third and Panthers sunk to their only defeat of the day.
Man of the Match : Ethan Grant

1. vs Star Blue Result : 0 - 0
This week's games were played on the larger-than-average pitches at Blackweir and seemed to result in a dearth of goalmouth action. A newcomer was unvieled to the Panthers supporters - Wolves have Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, but we have Mathew Rowlands-Mellor. Much more classy !
The first half was an even affair, with neither goalkeeper really tested. Sean Bartlett tried to create some attacking play and Tom Mably was prominent in midfield, but most of the threat came from Conor Hughes, who always looked dangerous and clearly had had his Weetabix before leaving the house! Half-time came with the game goal-less.
In the second-half Panthers had 90% of the play, with 'keeper Seb Davies a virtual spectator, but no goals would come and the game ended 0 - 0.
Man of the Match : Conor Hughes
2. vs Urdd Result : 0 - 0
We are playing this team so regularly at the moment, that several of our lads are now fluent in Welsh! The first-half was fairly even, with Conor Flynn shining in defence and new boy Mathew Rowlands-Mellor threatening from midfield. Although some promising moves were built up, once again, there were few chances created and half-time arrived with the score still at 0 - 0.
Urdd started the second period as the brighter of the two sides and 'keeper Seb Davies was forced to make two smart saves. Sean Bartlett and Conor Hughes both had good efforts saved as Panthers came back into the game, which had now developed into a better contest. Coach Bryan Hughes was heard to say that it was the best 0-0 draw he had ever seen, but there were rumours that he had been feeling unwell! In the last minute, Urdd built up a strong attack and Tom Mably made an excellent clearance off the line and the game ended with the score still at 0 - 0.
Man of the Match : Tom Mably
3. vs Heol Hir Result : 0 - 2.
The Panthers' boys had certainly been saving their
worst till last and a fairly inept display led
to a 0 - 2 defeat and, in the memory of all supporters
present, the first time that a session of three
matches has failed to produce a single goal.
Dan Melhuish took over from Seb Davies between
the sticks and the game srarted promisingly, with
Steffan Oliver prompting and opening up the Heol
Hir defence. From a Sean Bartlett corner, Mathew
Rowlands-Mellor came close with a firm header
and another corner saw a Joshua Moore header graze
the crossbar. However, all the good work was undone,
when some casual defending allowed Heol Hir to
score with a simple chance and half-time came
with the score at 0 - 1.
Although Panthers pressed hard for an equaliser, very few opportunities were created and their misery was complete when Heol Hir broke away in the dying moments and more sloppy defending allowed a simple goal and the game finished very disappointinly at 0 - 2.
Man of the Match : Mathew Rowlands-Mellor

1. vs Grange Blue Result : 2 - 1
Clearly the excellent playing surface at The Marl brings the best out of the boys and some first-class football was on show in all three games this week. Panthers were into the Grange side from the start and, in the first few minutes, Stefan Oliver and Joshua Moore both went close to opening the scoring. Then a flowing move involving Hugo Souto and Joshua Moore set up Josh Caswell and he finished comfortably to make the score 1 - 0. Dan Melhuish then hit a post and Mathew Rowland-Mellor came close and Panthers were well on top when the half-time whistle came with the score at 1 - 0.
The quality of football continued into the second period, although Panthers were now playing into a stiff breeze. A Joshua Moore cross was converted by Josh Caswell and the 2 - 0 lead was thoroughly deserved. Then Grange started to come into the game and 'keeper Seb Davies was unsighted as a firm shot flew into the net, but the boys were able to regain command and see out time to register a good vicory. Full-time score : 2 - 1.
Man of the Match : Josh Caswell
The Grange coach commented after the game that he felt the Lisvane boys were over physical. Now, when I was a boy........
2. vs Grange Claret. Result : 2 -1.
The 20 boys representing the Grange club all wore the same claret & blue strip, so identifying the sides was somewhat difficult ! The Panthers lads carried on from the previous game and were soon pressing hard to find the net. When is came, it was a classic ! Sean Bartlett delivered one of his text book corners and Tom Mably leapt like a salmon to bury a firm header into the net ( a lttle journalistic licence in the description here ! ). Grange were trying to force their way back into the game, but the Panthers' defence, with Conor Flynn in particular standing out, held firm and the interval came with the score at 1 - 0.
The second-half started with Dan Melhuish going on a dazzling run which ended in Stefan Oliver going close and the same player then had a shot pushed on to the post by the Grange 'keeper. All the good work was then undone when some sloppy defending allowed Grange to equalize from a corner. However, all was not lost when Tom Mably went on a powerful run from defence which finished with a tremendous shot drilled into the corner to give Panthers a thoroughly deserved win. Final score : 2 - 1.
Man of the Match : Tom Mably
3. vs Maindy Corries Red Result : 2 - 0.
Following a period of even play, Panthers started to get on top and Tom Mably and Joshua Moore both came close. Then Tom Mably picked up a poor clearance and fired home a great shot to open the scoring. Soon Mathew Rowland-Mellor hit a post with a fine effort, but Maindy were still very much in the game and it took an excellent save from Seb Davies to retain the lead. Half-time came with the score at 1 - 0.
Joshua Moore then had the ignominy of being out-muscled in a tackle by Corries' female midfielder, but he soon bounced back and set up Josh Caswell for an unmissable chance to make the score 2 - 0. Throughout the game, Dan Melhuish had been a constant threat to the Corries' defence down the left flank and, with Stefan Oliver running things in midfield, this win rounded off an good morning's work for the Panthers' boys.
Man of the Match : Dan Melhuish.

Lisvane Panthers Orange Vs Pentwyn Dynamos
The mud was deep and the rain long with the wind swirling. Panthers did not look happy at the outset and 5 minutes later looked downright sad for being two goals down. Panthers were not working as a team and were punished for it. As half time approached Rhys Golding and Alex Maldonado found the will to strike but both sliced the ball wide when it came to the decisive moment. Man of the half was Rhys Golding.
The second half was better for Panthers. The play was more of a battle in mid field and Alex Boyd organised the defence. Dynamos still squeezed another in to make it three nil though. Man of the half was Alex Boyd in goal – now caked from head to toe in mud.
Man of the Half: 1st Half Rhys Golding, 2nd Half Alex Boyd
Result: Panthers 0 Dynamos 3
Lisvane Panthers Orange Vs Pentwyn Dynamos Juniors
This was a friendly against a more junior team. Well done to Panthers for playing fair and square and not getting frustrated when the Dynamos kept their whole team in their box for long periods. Eventually Owen Dawes whipped the ball in from range at such speed that the goal keeper never moved. Owen is getting the taste for the 20 metre goal from depth - this was his second this year.
Result: Panthers 1 Juniors 0
Lisvane Panthers Orange Vs Inter Milan Grangetown
The rain had lifted and so had the Panthers. A notoriously physical Grangetown did not deter them and Panthers made good use of the wings. Rhys Golding and Alex Maldonado gave Grangetown a lot of trouble. When Grangetown attacked the Panthers were well organised and robust. Panthers kept making good use of space and Alex Le Grys set Ieuan Wilkins off at a blistering pace with a lethal final strike – goal of the year without a doubt. Grangetown were stunned and lost discipline. Panthers looked like punishing them again as they worked free kicks and corners ever closer to the Grangetown net. The net was found but the goal disallowed on account of the Grangetown goalkeeper being injured. Alex Le Grys put in a couple of sharp strikes on his own but Grangetown survived. Man of the half was Ieuan Wilkins for his pace and finish.
The second half was end to end stuff. Alex Boyd was kept busy in goal, ably supported by Phillip Back and Jack Bishop who were being bruised by an angry Grangetown. Panthers were still intent on playing a passing game and James Salamon was unlucky not to score at the end of some good Panthers moves. Panthers kept the pressure up and at one point peppered the Grangetown goal with several forceful shots – all blocked but with nearly every Panther having a go. The last few moments saw Alex Boyd tested severely in goal and then the Panthers woodwork being hit but they won the day. Man of the half was James Salamon for outwitting the Grangetown defence again and again.
Result: Panthers 1 Grangetown 0
Man of the Match: 1st Half Ieuan Wilkins, 2nd Half: James Salamon
Supporters Voice: bad start but outstanding play at the finish – real FA Cup giant killing stuff.

1. vs Pentwyn Dynamo White Result : 1 - 1
Pentwyn had the advantage of the strong wind in the first half and they dominated the play, giving Panthers' 'keeper Seb Davies plenty to do. Half-time was approaching when Sean Bartlett had Panthers' first attempt on goal and then, just before the interval a powerful shot was parried, only for the rebound to be driven home to give Dynamo a 1 - 0 lead at the break.
Although they had the better of the elements in the second half, Panthers failed to make the best use of them and still had to defend stoutly, with Hugo Souto and Connor Flynn outstanding. Defeat was looming when, with the last play of the game, Steffan Oliver's long throw set up Matthew Rowlands-Mellor to fire home the equaliser.
Man of the Match : Hugo Souto
2. vs Lisvane Panthers Red Result : 5 - 0
Even though they were playing into a stiff breeze, Blacks were well in control of this game and, it came as no surprise, when Ethan Grant's strong run led to firm shot into the net to make the score 1 - 0. Josh Caswell had taken over between the sticks and, although he was not troubled much in the remainder of the half, Blacks were unable to increase their lead and half-time came with the score at 1 - 0.
The sun was shing from a clear blue sky when the second period commenced and the larger than usual crowd, resulting from last week's triple victory, were enjoying some flowing football from the Black's lads. Seb Davies drove home a low shot to make the score 2 - 0 and the same player was then set up by Joshua Moore to finish well and move the score on to 3 - 0. Seb then sruck a fierce shot which the Reds' 'keeper could only parry in to the roof of the net for 4 - 0, although cruel coach Bryan Hughes suggested that this could be recorded as an own goal ! The final score came when Conor Hughes hit a tremendous shot which was pushed out to Seb Davies again and he duly drilled home his fourth of the game. Such talented finishing shown by Seb Davies in this game must surely be hereditary ! The game ended at 5 - 0.
Man of the Match : Seb Davies
3. vs St Albans Result : 0 - 0
As usual, an excellent and close encounter was seen between these two well-matched teams. The first half was end-to-end stuff, although stand-in 'keeper Hugo Souto was the busier of the two custodians. Steffan Oliver was pulling the strings from midfield and Dan Melhuish was a constant threat down the left flank and an exciting first half ended with the game goal-less.
The second period saw Panthers defying the strong wind and playing some great football. Tom Mably had a thunderous shot tipped on to the bar and a firm header saved from the resulting corner. Hugo Souto had to be on his guard in goal and made some smart saves to keep the scores level. The game ended at 0 - 0 and coach Bryan Hughes stated it was the best 0 - 0 he had ever seen, but then he does say that quite often !
Man of the match : Steffan Oliver

1. vs Canton Rangers Result : 0 - 0
Today's games were played on the larger-than-usual pitches at Llandaff
Fields and, clearly, the extra space available did not suit the Panthers'
boys. Stefan Oliver was close with an early effort, but the only other
shot of the first half was a 60 yard punt from 'keeper Seb Davies ! Half-time
came with no score.
The second period was little better, although Hugo Souto and Ethan Grant
both had shots saved early in the half and Matthew Rowlands-Mellor was
controlling things in midfield. Joshua Moore sent a stinging shot just
past the post, but after that the game fizzled out into a very disappointing
0 - 0 draw.
Man of the Match : Matthew Rowlands-Mellor
2. vs St.Albans Result : 0 - 2
In a surprise move, coaches Adam Caswell and Bryan Hughes replaced Seb
Davies with Hugo Souto in goal - with disappointing results. Defensive
lapses and misunderstandings led to St. Albans scoring twice in the first
three minutes, with The 'Buns looking well in command. Dan Melhuish and
Connor Flynn were both battling hard to keep the attackers at bay, but
Panthers were struggling to prevent further scores. Half-time came with
the score at 0 - 2.
A half-time re-shuffle improved matters a little and Tom Mably powered
forward in an effort to break the scoring deadlock and Conor Hughes weaved
his magic down the left flank. Through all this disappointment, one player
stood out as the only persistent threat for the Blacks - Joshua Moore
and he had several excellent attempts on goal thwarted by the opposition
defenders. Josh Caswell nearly converted a Sean Bartlett corner, but it
was not to be. Sean received a rather unfortunate injury during the game,
but ,after a count on the touchline, it was found that everything was
still in place ! The game ended at 0 - 2.
Man of the Match : Joshua Moore
3. vs Thornhill Reds Result : 0 - 5
The unanimous view of Panthers' supporters was that this was the most
inept and heartless performance by the Blacks Under 10's for a long time.
While it must be accepted that Thornhill played well, the collapse of
any pattern or resiliance in the boys' display was disappointing to say
the least.
One major difference in the sides was that Thornhill had boys with ability
across the pitch and it was clearly apparent that this was not the case
for Lisvane.
For the record, the half-time score was 0 - 3 and two further goals piled
on the misery in the second-half, leaving the final score at 0 - 5 , the
worst result for a very long time.
Man of the Match : The referee - for ending the slaughter two minutes early !
