Annual Reports 2006/07

Under 11 Red

Managers: Paul Abandonato & Greg Pescott

The boys continued their progress as they get ready to step up to full sized pitches and 11-a-side football next season. It is strange to think that the group of players, who Greg and Paul first started coaching on the astroturf at Cardiff High School when they were just seven years of age, have come to the end with regards mini football. Amongst those who have been there for the duration, so to speak, are Luke Pescott, Ben Abbandonato, Jonathan James, Owain Griffiths, Jos Megji and Connor and Jacob Smith. The commitment these seven have put in down the years makes them a credit to Panthers and they have certainly been on the winning team more often than the losing side. Indeed, in the early days, there were many occasions when their skill and endeavour ensured that Lisvane Panthers Reds would win every one of the three matches they were involved in on a Saturday morning. Those seven have made superb progress through the various age groups and, even today, most of them remain stalwarts (if that is the right word for boys so young) around which the team continues to be built. Daniel Harris has become another stalwart, playing without complaining at the back week in, week out. He improved over the course of the year as did Max Cliffe whose joy was there for everyone to see when he won the Player of the Day award on one particular weekend in March. Jordan Leaman, like Daniel, always tried his best. And the team was supplemented by the inclusion of three newcomers, whose support the coaches were grateful for. Elliot Racz played well, whether in midfield or defence, Sam Miller scored goals up front, and Ben Jones was always full of endeavour. The players have enjoyed their football. Good luck with the step up next season, boys.

Under 11 Blue

Managers: Joe McLaughlin & Graham Morgan

Our last season in mini football and very much ready as a team to move upward and onward to the eleven aside game. We were delighted this season to have a new kit kindly sponsored by Langmead Construction. Notwithstanding the disruption caused by weather, we have had exceptional support and commitment from all the lads in the squad and also the boys that have joined our training sessions each Thursday night. We have given the players a chance to experience different positions on the pitch and this has been more important in many ways than winning matches. During the season we played 43 matches with 15 wins, 11 draws and 17 losses. In goal Stephen Cox has progressed massively and we have added Luke Davies to our ranks in that position. Both have attended the goal keeper training sessions at the GOL training centre which has been a huge help. Our defence has become very settled with combination of Adam Nyan, Kyle Jenkins, Bailey Williams, Dan Shortland, Matthew Schofield and Jacob Lewis. In the middle of the park we have Joe Hill, Ben Morgan, Luc Dobie, Chris Congdon, Rhys Wood and Harry Orbell In latter part of season Dennis Humphreys and Nathan McLaughlin have formed the thrust of our attack. Rhys has again been involved in FAW Academy and Adam with Cardiff Schools. Joining our training sessions we have had Chris Proctor, Kwesi Asamdah-Mensah Joe Baraz, Ethan, Joe Pollock and Joseph. All in all another great season and our thanks go to the players and the support.

Saturday 3rd March 2007

Lisvane Panthers U11 Red

Venue:Llandaff fields.

The Under 11 Reds produced three brilliant games of football in appalling, or brilliant, conditions, depending upon your point of view.

The pitch we played on was a mudbath, with puddles of water down the middle. Yet the boys still played some superb pass and moved football and battled bravely to beat Grangetown 1-0 in the first game and Heol Hir 1-0 in the third.

In between, they unluckily lost to a very good Urrd side, but were heroic in defeat. The scoreline of 0-1 didn't really reflect the skill level and commitment shown by the Panthers, who produced some excellent moments and were unfortunate to go down in the end.

Throughout, Jacob was brave as a lion in goal and the defenders in front of him, Connor, Jos, Jordan and William tigerish and strong in the tackle.

In midfield, Luke and Owain worked their socks off, Elliott showed some neat touches in the centre and Ben showed some terrific skill, particularly against Urrd, to dribble past players and set up scoring chances.

The other Ben (Jones) and Sam, both newcomers this season, each did well and have settled nicely into the team. Ben was rewarded for his efforts with the goal in the third match, Owain getting the goal in the first.

Afterwards they celebrated by diving headlong into the mud … which didn't overly amuse the watching parents, but did ensure washing powder manufacturers would be kept in business for about a week!
