We have now completed one full season as a team. We began with 12 players who soon became 13. However during the season we lost one player to Maindy; our busy midfielder Sherman Wong, to our Orange side, and Leo Greenway, who after making great strides during indoor training, has decided to hang up his boots. The season started very quietly, apart from my screams from the sideline, continuing much as we'd done at the end of the last season. But then gradually we started to get a few draws under our belt, and realised that although we were still losing a lot of our matches the score line was getting narrower. We played Splott Albion, many times, usually at 9.30 (which we all found a bit early). Our first match we lost 8-0, our second 6-0, then 4-0 (notice the pattern!), then 2-0 and the last match we played against them we ended with a 1-1 draw. To sum up our season I must use the words 'great progress'. Our squad: In defence (mainly) Sam Winterbourn, our very trusty central defender. Always sweeping the ball up with great determination. Sam loves playing up front too, where he dribbles the ball through the oppositions midfield and often finds himself at the net. Lewis (Ryan Giggs) Nelmes is our dependable left back whose red face clearly shows how much effort is put in each week. Not content with clearing the ball at the back you'll often find him taking the ball the length of the pitch where he's often been denied that spectacular finish by the opposition's goalie. Daniel Boase started his career in our team as our main striker, but has demonstrated a great ability to ' - saving our bacon many times at the back. Daniel loves to be in the action, which for a lot of our season, has been at the back of the pitch. His greatest game was... I'll tell you at the end of the report. Seb Wiggins joined us just after the season started. As a player who wasn't sure how he'd take to football, has made great strides. Busy and determined are two words that come to mind. Usually playing in midfield (although has proved an able keeper too), over the last few months, has found himself right in the middle of the action where he's proved how well he can volley the ball and produce some very good passes. Matthew Kinsey and Patrick Morris have worked very well together to provide a good, fast midfield team. Patrick uses his pace to take the ball up the pitch, often crossing the ball into the penalty area and has been rewarded with some goals. Matthew uses his pace, combined with his body strength, as he tenaciously takes the ball up the pitch, finding the net on times too. James Plaut is very much an all rounder. I'm sure he prefers to play up front but can be depended on wherever he is. Encouraging the team is very high up on James' agenda and he takes great delight in applauding results. James has tremendous ball skills, pace and great enthusiasm. Joe Williams is usually our 'right up front' man, getting in position to use the very strong right foot he is developing. Joe enjoys getting in the mix of midfield and is beginning to find strength against the opposition and find gaps to thread passes through. Harris Cole takes any chance he can (whether it be 5m or 25m from goal) to hit the net, and has been successful too. He is able to use his strength to clear the ball to our advantage and will often use his skills as an extra keeper. A team wouldn't be complete without its keeper. Mat Hall plays most of our matches between the posts, and although vertically challenged, has managed to save our bacon on many occasions, pulling off some tremendous saves to keep us in the game. And to end, on the best note of all. After playing for 15 months without a win. We turned up on the last Saturday of the season, and played the final game, and WON. Yes, not only did we win, but the score was 4-0. (A hat-trick for Daniel and one from Patrick). I am looking forward to parents hugging each other and dancing around the goalposts again! My thanks to the parents who turn up and give us their support, to James for his help at training, but most importantly to the boys, without whom this would not be possible.

Once again we are at the end of another season. A season in which there has been a huge improvement in all departments of the team. It has been our most successful year regarding sponsorship and the boys looked impeccable every week in the new kit and tracksuits. A special thank you goes out to Phil and Jude Davies of the Ystrad Mynach Family Dental Health Centre, Sarah Davies and BT, and also to another undisclosed sponsor (you know who you are). It has been a record season for lost property with an array of items left either at training, on match days and tournaments. Items range from the ever popular t-shirt to the very rare pair of underpants found in the bag. If any parents have noticed something missing, then please come and see me. This year has seen a gradual progression with the entertainments department. The first function of the year saw many of the parents celebrating Christmas early at The Griffin Pub for a meal. It was a great opportunity for parents to talk to each other without a child asking for his laces to be tied or his nose to be wiped etc. The second function was a 10 pin bowling night for the boys at Christmas. This was an enjoyable evening for the boys and was a great way for the boys to integrate away from football. Once again thanks to Jude for organising the events. (What's next)? I would like to thank Ian Davies for refereeing most of the games this season. By Ian doing this unpopular task, it has allowed me and Cliff to coach the boys during the game. There were only a small number of teams that thought he was not up to the task, but we all know that the referee is always right!!! Well done Ian. The season again started slow as in previous years, and it took the boys a while to get into the swing of things. The first half of the season we seemed to be permanently at Pentwyn Leisure Centre where we had some testing encounters. All 12 of the boys have shown a massive improvement this season, not only with their footballing ability but with their desire, enthusiasm and commitment. There was no better example of this than the recent St. Albans tournament where the boys finished runners up losing in extra time. All of the games were a pleasure to watch in which we played some excellent football, and never once did the boys stop working for each other. Congratulations go to Josh Coupar and Lewis Turner for being selected for the Cardiff Academy and I hope we will have more boys selected next season. Next season will be the last season that all the boys will be playing together. It will be a great disappointment to players, parents and coaches when the time comes, but I hope everyone will have some good memories from the four years that we would have had together. I know next season will be a good one for us based on the rapid improvement made by all the players. Most of all though, the boys need to continue enjoying themselves and show the same team spirit that they have showed from day one. Finally, I would like to thank all the parents for their continued support to myself and Cliff, and hope that they have enjoyed the season as much as we have. Well done to all the boys!! Ben Morris, Michael Davies , Josh Coupar, Adam Carey, Joe Smith, Lewis Turner, Mathew Brooks, Ben Macomish, Alex Jenkins, Sam Williams, Jack Davies and Will Thomas.

Another season of ups and downs, highs and lows, peaks and troughs, pinnacles and nadirs! During the course of this season we brought in two new faces to supplement the ten we had who battled bravely throughout last season, usually with minimum players. Although we were able to play with the novelty of substitutes for most of the matches we continued to struggle to maintain consistency throughout the season. Saturdays when the opposition thought they were playing the likes of Real Madrid, AC Milan and Barcelona were followed by Saturdays when we played like Torquay, Leeds and, yes, even Swansea at times. The policy of general rotation was maintained and would seem to bring out the best in the players. All have steadily improved over the course of the season with some making big strides forward as is reflected in the award winners and those who have gone on to make representative honours. Most pleasing for the coaches this season is the team spirit that exists in this side and the respect they show each other, the opposition and the referees. This augurs well for their final year in mini football before they make the step up to the all together more serious business of 11-a-side junior football the season after next. In terms of the season just gone it would be remiss of me not to mention some of the highlights. Starting at the back with the goalkeeper, we had a variety of players in this vital position with none making the position their own. Ethan Davies joined us midseason as a possible solution to our problem in this position but also supplemented the defenders on a regular basis. By season end it was with some reluctance given his outstanding outfield performances that we gave the role to Sam Abbandonato following some amazing TV saves that had everything apart from the cameras. In defence we seem to have discovered our rock at the back in Alex Machon who cajoled and organised the players around him and put in some huge last-ditch tackles in every game. Around him Greg Jones provides much needed tenacity with the ability to get forward and support the front players at every opportunity. At left back Luke Morgan has made the position his own whilst Thomas Smart provides excellent cover for every position across the back and has stepped up immensely this season. In midfield I have to start with Toby Thomas who has skill, pace and balance with the ability to shoot with either foot. He has had another great season and is the beating heart of the team. Around Toby we have played with a variety of midfielders all of whom have done an excellent job this season, often for different reasons. Deserving special mention is Connor Martin who seems to relish the constant demands put upon him in the middle of the park. Tough-tackling and a single-minded focus in driving forward with the ball at his feet have earned him the nick-name 'Bulldozer' this season. It seems that nothing can stop him once he gets moving with the ball at his feet. Our other new recruit is Sherman Wong who transferred from Sue Hall's Blues this season. Sherman is a livewire at the heart of midfield and will tenaciously tackle anything that moves, and quite a few things that don't. Sam 'Duracell' Gough has a similar energetic approach but does not restrain his influence to the midfield only. He can 10 frequently be seen popping up on either flank, scoring on the end of a cross or making the last tackle having run the length of the field to get there. Harry Solanot completes the midfield make up and is renowned for his spectacular long range goals. He has the hardest shot in the team and, when he broke the crossbar at Glyncoed he earned the moniker 'Hot-Shot Harry'. Up front we played most of the season with Sam Abbandonato partnering Nye Brown. However Sam's cat-like performances between the posts have left us with just one recognised striker for next season. Fortunately, in Nye 'Lethal' Brown we have a player with a goal scoring record worth two of any other team. Like Michael Chopra for Cardiff he has carried our team's scoring prowess all season scoring at least one goal on every single Saturday of the season. This remarkable record has been achieved with some spectacular long-range shots as well as his trade-mark six yard box preditative efforts. In total 'Lethal' has hit the back of the net 33 times this season and accounted for almost half our goals. As always Clive and I are indebted to all the parents for their support. Even on the coldest, wettest Saturday mornings we have a dedicated band of parents and grandparents cheering the boys on. Sukie Smart and John Machon take care of all our finances, Adrian Gough has helped with the team when we have been shorthanded this season and everyone lends a hand whenever we need support. In summary this season of the 44 games played, 25 were lost, 11 were drawn and 18 were won including a remarkable orangewash with three wins from three on the final day of the season at a sun-drenched Radyr. On that day we truly were Real Madrid, AC Milan and Barcelona all rolled into one!

Caldicot Tournament
The Blacks were once again on the road in another tournament. This time we were at Caldicot FC for a very early start, but with bright sunshine.
We had a very slow start where we lost 2-0 and knew that the football could only improve.
Improve it did, as we drew 0-0 in the second game and there was some promising signs.
The third game was a classic, in which we won 3-2. There was some excellent goals scored and we looked a different team from the first game.
The fourth we coasted and won 2-0 and we now looked like the team from last season.
How we lost the fifth 1-0 we will never know. Again excellent football played, but we just could not get the ball in the net, hitting the post and the bar showed how close we came.
The final game of the day we won 2-0 and we once again played some great football.
There was an array of goal scorers, which included Toby, Nye, Joe, Lewis and Adam. There was some excellent defending from Mathew and Michael and some excellent saves from our stand-in-keeper Will. It was good to see Sam back to his energetic self after his operation, and he looks fit and ready for the new season. Well done to you all.

The Blacks looked very impressive in their new kit on the first
day of the season. All associated with the Blacks team would like to thank BT and Phil and Jude Davies of the Family Dental Health Centre in Ystrad Mynach for their kind sponsorship. |
Even though we lost all three games, there was plenty of good football played to show that it is only a matter of time before we will be playing as we finished last season.
There was great link up play from the midfield of Jack, Will and Lewis which contributed to the excellent goals from Josh and Lewis and the openings for Michael.
Solid in defence again were Joe, Mathew and Alex and Ben Mac who always look dangerous on our corners. Ben Morris made some excellent saves and his throwing out was excellent and he quickly came to terms with the new ruling for goalkeepers .
Congratulations to Alex Jenkins for being Player of the Week.

The side can be pleased with their overall performance after the long summer break.Luke, playing in goal, showed his bravery at times and will be working on his throwing in response to the Under-10 rule change prohibiting goalkeepers' drop kicks. Thomas and Connor were typically solid at the back and will be looking to improve communication between defenders and making themselves available for quick restarts. Greg, Alex, Harry and Sam G worked tirelessly in different positions and will hope that this season they will get more opportunities to score. Toby was everywhere in midfield and will want to improve his heading as the season progresses. Nye remained a fox-in-the-box and will also want to work on his first touch and off-the-ball running.
Orange: 1 - Danescourt B: 2 (Toby)
Orange: 1 - Llanedeyrn Bulldogs Green: 1 (Toby)
Orange: 3 - Heol Hir A: 2 (Greg, Nye 2).
Training resumes on Tuesdays, 6.30pm, at Caedelyn, starting 19 September. Players are reminded to bring their boots and shin pads.

The second Saturday of the season saw a much improved and more disciplined team turning up to play and getting their rewards for their efforts by winning all 3 games. The first match was against a very good team from Maindy. The match was very even and ended up 0-0 half time.
There was a great improvement from last week and the boys deserved to snatch a goal and win the game 1-0. Mathew (Bruised Knees Brooks) had to go off due to a cut to his knee, but once again keen to start the next game.
The boys had another tough game against Marlboro in the second match and were trailing 1-0 at half time to a very capable Marlboro team. The boys battled on again in the second half and scored three goals without reply and ended up winning the game 3-1. There was some excellent football played in attack and defence and the win was no more than the boys deserved.
The final game was against Rumney and again proved to be a tough test for the Blacks. All even at half time showed what a close game it was going to be. With a lot of determination in the second half, the boys managed to get a winner and finish unbeaten for the morning. Mathew once again took another knock to his knee and had to come off. We have now decided to call the new first aid kit, the 'MATHEW BROOKS FIRST AID KIT.'
Cliff and I would like to give a special mention to Ian Davies for refereeing so well, and we look forward to his assistance from now on.
Blacks: 1 - Maindy Whites: 0 (Josh)
Blacks: 3 - Marlboro Red: 1 (Josh 2, Sam 1)

The second week of the season saw the lads gain two draws and suffer a second defeat.Early pressure saw the Oranges leading 1-0 at half time against Pentyrch, before defensive lapses in concentration let two goals slip in the second half. A late equaliser saved the side's blushes and the game finished 2-2.
Against a strong Ely Rangers Colts side the lads did well to contain their opponents in the first half, conceding only one goal. In a more even second half the spirited Oranges created a deserved equaliser to draw 1-1.
Two goals down at half-time against old friends Thornhill White, the wilting Oranges fought on in the glorious sunshine before going down 3-1.
In his first matches of the season, Sam A showed exactly how to defend from the front with some timely tackling. Alex marshalled his defence effectively and posed a threat when venturing forward, whilst Luke is increasingly finding his angles between the posts. Greg confirmed his versatility with strong performances on the left side of defence.
Oranges: 2 - Pentyrch: 2 (Toby, Alex)
Oranges: 1 - Ely Rangers Colts: 1 (Connor)
Oranges: 1 - Thornhill: 3 (Nye).

The third week of the season we visited Caedelyn where we were up against Rhiwbina Dragons, which we played twice due to one of the teams not turning up and Fairwater Juniors.
The first game against Rhiwbina Dragons was a very closely fought match. We had the better of the first half creating plenty of chances but were just unable to score. With a bit more teamwork and finishing the goals will start to come. It was to everyone's surprise when Rhiwbina scored the first goal of the game just before half time. In the second half the Blacks again created plenty of chances, which saw Michael put in a delicate flick to put Sam through on goal, but the shot was saved by an impressive keeper. Against the run of play, Rhiwbina scored their second goal of the match with a deflected goal and we finished with an undeserved defeat.
The second match was against a well organised Fairwater team. The Blacks showed all the commitment that was asked of them and took everything they had been working on in training into the match. They closed down the opposition on goal kicks, and picked up players where and when required. There was some great link up play by the defence and the midfield. Adam and Joe linked together and moved the ball up the right where Sam crossed for Will to score his first goal of the season and end the half with us leading 1-0.
We came out in the second half playing some creative football and looked very much in control for most of the half. The defence of Alex, Joe and Mathew cleared any danger that came their way. With Ben Morris sustaining an injury, Will took over between the posts. Again some attractive football in the middle led to the second goal. Ben Mc and Lewis moved the ball well before Lewis put through a perfectly waited pass for Josh to finish the move off and seal the game.
The third game saw us have a return match with Rhiwbina Dragons who defeated us earlier that morning. Jack was playing on the left of defence but became more of an attacking force in the match, moving the ball up the left and causing some problems for the opposition. All players were showing magnificent determination and were battling for everything that was put in front of them. Because of this, it was no surprise when we took the lead through a shot from Josh. Many more chances were created but squandered, but this always gives us something to work on in training. Rhiwbina battled back and managed to pinch an equaliser just before half time.
In the second half the boys were just as good as in the first half. Plenty of chances again were created, and we were rewarded with a second goal scored by Lewis. The win was looking very likely until a deflection from a cross went into the corner of the goal. In the final seconds of the game, Rhiwbina had a break but were denied a goal due to a super save from Will. A draw should have been the least we came away with after the chances we had and the effort that was put in by the boys.
Blacks: 0 - Rhiwbina Dragons: 2
Blacks: 2 - Fairwater Juniors: 0 (Will, Josh)
Blacks: 2 - Rhiwbina Dragons: 2 (Lewis, Josh)
Congratulations to Joe Smith for being Player of the Week.

Off to an unusually bright start, the boys got their passing game into gear and were at one stage compared to Brazil!! After a comfortable early win, the Oranges soaked up considerable pressure from a strong Pentwyn Dynamo Red outfit and deservedly held out for a draw. Tired from that effort, for the second week running the final game ended with a disappointing defeat. Perhaps more work on fitness is required - coaches and parents to note!!
Thomas settled into his favourite right-back slot and, together with Alex, had an impressive morning in a defence that conceded only two late goals. Harry, Nye and Connor deputised well for the absent Luke (allegedly on trial with AC Milan!) between the sticks and, as ever, the performances were fuelled by impressive, non-stop performances from Sam A, Sam G, Toby and Greg.
Oranges: 5 - Pentwyn Dynamo White: 0 (Toby 2, Nye, Sam A, Greg)

The Blacks started the first game against the Lisvane Blues with some great attacking football. The first goal came not from the strikers but from Joe, with a 20 yard shot into the top corner. He had the taste for scoring now and was shooting from all angles trying to get another. The half ended with the Blacks leading 1-0, and were keen to start the second half. Will was playing up front and had a number of chances saved by a lively Blues goalkeeper. With some excellent link up play, Michael was put through and scored on the second attempt showing some great determination. He now wanted to increase his goal tally and like a typical striker, tried to claim the third goal. Jack hit a powerful shot that was all but over the line until Michael pounced and blasted it into the roof of the net. After a panel of enquiry by the Blacks supporters, it was decided that it was Jack's goal.
The second game was against our favourite opponents, Radyr Rangers Red. Playing up the slope in the first half, the defence of Alex, Mathew and Joe soaked up a lot of pressure from the lively Radyr team. Ben controlled the goal area well and started many attacks from his quick throw outs. We finished the first half at 0-0, but knew we had the advantage in the second half, playing with the slope. We started the second half creating chance after chance but through some great saves from their keeper, we were unable to get a goal. Radyr against the run of play grabbed a goal from a deflection on a corner. The boys did not drop their heads and were as determined as ever to try and get an equaliser. There was shot after shot towards the Radyr goal from Josh, Lewis, Joe and Sam but it was just not meant to be. It ended with us losing 1-0, but the boys should be proud of the display that they put in.
The last game saw us come up against Heol Hir Yc Glas. Again, the boys continued producing some great football, even though the team had been changed around. The first goal came from a Josh cross, which fell to Sam where he toe poked it into the top corner. There was plenty of shots flying into the keeper, but he made some impressive saves. With some great defending from Ben Mac, this gave the midfield time and space to attack the Heol Hir defence. Josh was determined to get on the score sheet and was shooting at every opportunity and eventually scored after linking up with Lewis and striking a powerful shot. This left us leading 2-0 at the end of the first half. The boys continued with some excellent football in the second half and super striker Ben Morris was shooting at every opportunity. He also had the odd dive (his mother gave him 4.5 for the first one) and was involved in most of our attacks. The third goal was started by a Ben Mac pass up the line to Josh, where he cut inside and beat the keeper on his near post. Will deputising in goal for Ben settled in well and commanded his area well. With everyone now playing up front, Will was left stranded for the Heol Hir goal. It was him against four players and no one was surprised when they got their consolation goal at the end of the match.
Blacks: 3 - Lisvane Panthers Blue: 0
Blacks: 0 - Radyr Rangers Red: 1

With only eight players of the 10-man squad available for this weekend's matches, tiredness was always likely to play a part in proceedings. The lads started brightly enough, securing a comfortable 7-0 win against a fledgling Pentwyn Dynamo Green side. Having seen an early lead cancelled out against the Pentwyn Dynamo White side the Oranges re-focussed, drove forward and were rewarded with a 4-1 win. For the third week running, the final game saw a disappointing defeat, this time to a Pentyrch side armed with a number of substitutes, as enthusiasm and teamwork gave way to tired legs and aching lungs. The Blacks started slowly against Heol Hir and it was no surprise that it ended
0-0 at half time. There was a vast improvement in the second half and a well
worked corner led to the only goal which was hit home by Jack Davies. Jack now
has an eye for goal after scoring for the second week in succession. There was
a lot of chances created and the keeper made some great saves to stop Michael
from scoring. Adam had his shooting boots on and nearly scored on a few occasions.
He hit a powerful strike which smashed against the post and stayed on the line
until it was finally cleared by the opposition defence.
The second match of the day was against a well organised Radyr Reds team. Both
teams created plenty of chances in the first half and either team could have
taken the lead. There was some excellent defending in the second half from Alex,
Joe and Mathew and also Ben was back to his best again controlling his area
and making some important saves. The midfield of Lewis, Sam and Will showed
some great determination and put some slick passing together to put Radyr under
pressure. The game finally ended 0-0 and a draw was at least the boys deserved
from all the effort they put in.
With a lot of positional changes in the last game against Pentrych, the boys
still played some excellent attacking football. The midfield of Ben Mac, and
Adam put in some goal saving tackles but an excellent strike from Pentyrch saw
them take the lead. With the Blacks now pushing for the equaliser, they were
caught out and Pentyrch extended their lead to 2. The Blacks continued to attack
and were rewarded for their persistence with a goal from Josh. There was only
minutes remaining when the crowd thought Lewis had grabbed the equaliser with
a terrific long range shot but it just went over the bar. The game ended 2-1
to Pentyrch, but all in all it was a good day for the Blacks.

The season is becoming a story of same old, same old. For the third time running
the Oranges have played at Glyncoed School kicking off with solid performances
against two host Pentwyn Dynamo sides before losing a final match against other
travelling opposition. Hopefully the pattern will improve at Cefn Onn School
next week.
Once again an inexperienced Pentwyn Green side were overcome in the opening
game which saw Harry claim a double, one a shot from distance which nearly broke
the net. The highlight of the second match against Pentwyn White was a twenty
yard pile-driver from Toby as the side enjoyed a physical encounter which ended
in a draw.
One-nil down at half time in the final match, the Oranges were unable to cope
with some direct football from Pentyrch Whites in the second half and despite
a desperate and athletic headed goal line clearance from Sam G, went down to
a five-nil defeat.

It was a weekend where everyone was surprised to hear that the games were going to be on due to the poor weather during the week. That poor weather continued on the Saturday and with not only that to contend with, the Blacks had only 8 players and a lot of them had to play out of position.
The first game saw us playing against Pentwyn Dynamos White. We were up hill in the first half and the boys were finding it hard on their legs with the wind, rain and long grass. The boys tried to play some passing football and were unlucky to concede the first goal, an own goal from Lewis. If it was in their goal it would have been a great goal. Again the boys tried to play some passing football, but just struggled to get their shots away at goal. Pentwyn scored another easy goal just before half time and the score line did not reflect the way the boys were playing. The second half was much of the same, with the Blacks having all the possession, but the Whites pinching another goal. The match ended 3-0 to Pentwyn and was a bit of a wake up call for the boys.
The second game, Maindy Corries Black were our opponents, and once again we were up hill. The boys were now working hard for each other and played some very attractive football. There was some excellent link up play from Lewis, Will, Sam and Josh and at last the shots started to fire in at goal. Again though, we conceded another soft goal to go into half time losing 1-0. The boys came out with all guns blazing in the second half and were unlucky not to get an equaliser. We saw a shot from Josh hit the under side of the crossbar, a shot from Will well saved by the keeper and many goal line attacks cleared away by the Maindy defence. Joe was being forced back due to the Maindy striker camped on our goal line, but put in a solid display of tackling and clearing. He was desperate to get forward to increase his goal tally for the season but showed composure by keeping to his position. The game ended 1-0 to Maindy, but we should have at least come away with a draw.
The last game of the day was against Danescourt YC "A" and the boys
were looking tired, but they had to soldier on due to us having no substitutes.
The game saw Jack push further forward on the left and created alot of our attacks.
Again we were uphill and again we went 1-0 down early to a soft goal from Danescourt.
The boys continued to attack either down the left with Jack and Sam or down
the right with Lewis and Will. There were alot more shots in this game and their
keeper made an excellent save from Josh's strike. Ben Morris was back to his
best, not only this match but in all three this week. He made some excellent
saves and showed bravery beyond his age, putting his body between the player
and the ball. The boys came in half time losing 1-0 but they knew it was going
to change in the second half. The boys were not wrong, with us scoring very
early in the second half. There was some neat passing from Ben Mac which led
to Josh hitting a deflected shot into the top corner. The boys continued to
push forward for the winner and again had many chances saved or cleared by the
Danescourt defence. The game ended 1-1 and the boys could be very proud of themselves
with the effort and commitment they put in this week.
CONGRATULATIONS TO JOSH COUPAR FOR BEING PLAYER OF THE WEEK.

In blustery, wet conditions the Orange six descended upon Cefn Onn School in search of glory. Bolstered by generous, regrettably temporary, loan signings from opposing sides, the lads performed stoically and even managed to grab a win.Unsettled by last-second reorganisation, the Oranges had an uncharacteristically poor start to procedings and went down 0-3 to Rhiwbina. Helped by two goals from guest players, the second match against Heol Hir Glas saw an exciting encounter finish with the Oranges 5-3 up. From 1-1 at half time in the final match, tiredness again proved too much and the lads went down to an heroic 2-4 defeat.
Toby was at his dominant best in a constantly changing midfield. At the back Thomas, Sam G, Sam A and Luke gallantly worked their socks off, whilst Nye was his usual nuisance up front.
Thanks to each of the opposing sides for the temporary loan signings.
Training resumes at 5.45, Tuesday 7 November at St Davids (no training during half-term). No match on Saturday 4 November.

For the second week running we were back at Pentwyn Leisure Centre on a sunny Saturday morning. The first game started well with us playing up the slope and were unlucky to finish the half losing 1-0. The boys battled back well and equalised with a long distance shot from Sam. There was excellent goalkeeping from Will and again some great defending from the trio of Joe, Alex and Mathew. The second game of the day was not what the scoreline suggests. You would think it was a classic with it being 5-4, but some sloppy play gifted Heol Hir with the majority of their goals. Being 3-1 down at half time led the boys to having a stern team talk at and it seemed to wake them up for the majority of the second half. Adam scored our second goal of the game and we looked like making a comeback until again we conceded a soft goal. Once again we scored with a Sam Williams shot to get within one goal only to see another goal gifted to the opposition. Josh gave us hope once more with a great strike and his second of the game to again get us within one goal. With time running out we bombarded their goal with shots from Michael, Lewis, Josh and Adam but it was not meant to be.
The last game saw us come up against a very physical Pentwyn team. The boys were well up for the task ahead and some excellent tackles from Alex and Adam at the beginning of the game showed Pentwyn that they would not be having it all their own way. With Sam now in goals and Will in his more preferred role of midfield, we were playing our best football of the day. It was no surprise and well deserved, when we took the lead after a well worked goal from creative passing amongst Lewis, Adam and Will and the finish from Josh. Pentwyn managed to grab an equaliser just before half time with a shot that was unlucky not to be saved by Sam. Michael nearly got the second but was inches away from putting the ball into the net following a cross from Joe.The second half the boys were uphill and still continued to battle against a very direct Pentwyn team. Again we took the lead after a well taken shot from Josh and looked like we were going to win the game. Pentwyn kept attacking and grabbed a late equaliser against the run of play. We still attacked hoping for the winner but eventually run out of time. Well done to all 9 of you for the effort in this game.

Once again we were playing at Pentwyn Leisure Centre. But this Saturday was not like any other Saturday at Pentwyn, it was a day when everything clicked into place with the boys. You would be lucky to see any better football played in the whole world and some of the goals would have even looked good if it was Chopra scoring them.
The first game we were up against Maindy Corries in which we started like a greyhound out of the traps. Sam hit the bar with a powerful shot early on in the half and then Josh scored following an accurate pass from Jack. In the second half the shots were coming from all angles. Josh had a great strike tipped over the bar, and both Josh and Lewis were unlucky not to score after getting on the end of Jack's cross. There was a few worrying moments when Maindy were on the attack, but Ben Morris put us at ease by pulling off save after save after save in order to protect the lead.
The second game saw us come up against the most physical team in the league. The strong tackling from Joe, Sam and especially Adam showed that we were more than a match for Pentwyn. The first goal came from a Josh cross which was dummied by Michael in order for Adam to hit home his strike. The second came from yet another cross by Josh and again Adam put the ball into the net. The third of the half was goal of the season material. Will crossed to Josh who chested the ball down and squared the ball to Adam who hit a shot from 30 yards out, into the roof of the net.
We always knew that they would come at us in the second half and that they did. They scored two goals in quick succession, and tested the defending of Lewis, Joe and Mathew, but they held their own and cleared at the back when required. Sam hit the bar once again and would have finished the game off had it gone in. The game finished with us having our second deserved win of the day.
The third game of the day was against Thornhill and proved to be our best win of the season. Will and Jack were of a different class this week and I hope that it continues. Their determination, skill and energy was a pleasure to see for both Managers and parents on the side line. The first goal came from a well executed pass from Michael and a powerful shot from Josh into the bottom corner. Michael continued to attack and was unlucky not to score after hitting the post. Josh danced past two defenders with the next attack and crossed for Sam to score his second of the day. With some fine passing now from Will and Jack, there was attack after attack and Joe and Mathew were going forward to link up with them. This led to the third goal, with an accurate cross from Jack and a powerful shot from Josh.
In the second half the team was continually changed in order to move players around and we still continued to score. The fourth was scored with a 40 yarder from Sam. The fifth and final goal was scored due to the side step and a curling shot from Lewis.
Any of the players could have won player of the week and it was a very tough decision to make.

Yet another full-house of win, defeat and draw for a side still struggling to find consistent form throughout the full hour of football and still striving to find the net on a regular basis. At full strength for the first time in a while, the lads fought hard for a well deserved draw against Pentyrch Rangers B, a side to whom they had capitulated to a disappointing 5-0 defeat three weeks ago. Against Rhiwbina Dragons, defensive frailties in front of their own goal and an inability to retain possession saw the hosts secure a comfortable 3-0 victory. The Panthers Blues had the stronger first half in the final match and were unlucky not to go into the break with a lead as Oranges stuggled to find their passing game. Substitute Toby then inspired a much improved second-half performance as he provided a pin-point corner for Connor's thunderous header and then the money pass for Nye to wrap up proceedings later on.

This was always going to be a tough weekend, not just because of the weather
but also being up against probably three of the better teams in the league.
The first game against Thornhill saw us trying to play our normal passing game,
but due to the state of the pitch, it was almost impossible. After going in
half time losing 1-0, the second half improved immensely with some great passing
football being played on the wings by Josh, Lewis, Will, Jack and Adam. A cross
from Josh saw Michael get his first goal of the day after a deflected shot hit
the back of the net. The game ended in a draw, and was probably a fair result.
The second game we came up against Pentwyn Whites for about the fourth or fifth
consecutive week. They were desperate for revenge after the hammering we gave
them in the previous fixture. This proved to be the case, after a defender saved
a shot from Josh with his hands on the goal line. Pentwyn scored two quick goals
and were controlling the game until Michael hit the net for the second game
running. Joe, Mathew and Alex had now woken up and were now controlling the
game at the back. Ben made some excellent saves and even took a punch to the
face for his efforts. Like a warrior, he continued for the rest of the day and
continued to put his body on the line. The game ended 2-1 and but could have
gone either way.
The last game was against the mighty Radyr Reds and was played on a pitch that
had been created due to the previous pitch surface not to Radyr satisfaction.
Radyr were up against a determined Blacks team and were not happy when Sam hit
a powerful shot that found the top corner of the net.
With the Blacks team changing by the minute due to injuries to Lewis and bruised
knees Brooks, Radyr took advantage by scoring two goals in quick succession
to take the lead. The Blacks attacked the Radyr goal with shot after shot but
were unlucky not to score. The Radyr team hit back again with a super shot to
make it 3-1 and that is how the game finished. The boys put in a lot of effort
but were just unlucky in front of goal.

laying down the slope Panthers got off to a flyer in their first game. Neat one-two touches saw the ball in the Radyr penalty area and then in the back of the net off the boot of Alex Machon for 1-0. Goal time 15 seconds and Radyr hadn’t had a touch. It wasn’t long before Toby with a brace, Connor, Harry and Sam G had made it 6-0. Then in the dying embers of the first half Sam G completed the rout with a second. The second half was never likely to live up to the same promise and finished goalless despite some great chances. Final score 7-0 to the Panthers.
We always enjoy close games against Pentyrch but often finish on the losing side. With the boys playing a superb one touch passing game it was a great time to turn the tables on the opposition. A goal in the first half from Nye following a delightful turn and shot having been put through by Alex was followed up by a powerful shot from range from Toby in the second half. In between Pentyrch had applied some pressure but had found the defence of Connor, Luke, Greg, Alex and Thomas backed up by some great keeping from Luke and Nye more than up to the job. In the end 2-0 was a fair reflection on the game.
Both sides having won all their matches this was to be the cup final for the day. Despite weathering the early Heol Hir storm the Panthers succumbed to some sloppy defending in a five minute period and found themselves going in to the break 3-0 down. A big second half performance was needed and it looked as if we might get it as Panthers tore down the slope at the unsuspecting Heol Hir. Only some last ditch defending and great goalkeeping prevented the goal we so desperately needed. Eventually it came but it was too late to turnaround the game. The ball came out to Nye on the edge of the box and with the collective frustrations of 9 children and their coach he thumped it high and hard into the centre of the roof of the net, taking the ‘keeper with it. However it was too late to stage a comeback and Heol Hir got another late on when the game was lost.
Radyr Rangers White (won 7-0)
Pentyrch Rangers (won 2-0)
Heol Hir YC Ywen (lost 4-1)
For five out of six halves today this Panthers team played some of the best football seen outside the Premiership. Their passing, running and tackling were awesome and their shooting sublime. It is difficult to pick out any player but Connor in particular put in a man of the match performance although everyone can be really proud of themselves.

In the first game we could have not wished for a better start. Just as I was taking my pen and paper out of my pocket, Josh had hit the ball into the back of the net. A well rehearsed kick off and a neat pass from Adam to Josh, saw us take the lead after 8 seconds. With confidence now high, we were creating a lot of attacks with most of the team pushing forward. This left us exposed at the back and Heol Hir scored on the break to make it 1-1.
The second half we created a lot of chances once again but were unable to put them away. Shots from Lewis, Sam and Will all going just wide. Heol Hir tried to breakdown our defence, but Ban Macomish, Mathew and Alex were clearing and tackling non stop throughout the half. The game ended in a draw, but if we had more confidence in front of the goal I am sure we would have got a victory.
The second game of the day was by far our best performance. There was some excellent passing from Will, Adam and Jack and all three had some excellent shots cleared. All this pressure led to a bit of panic in the Thornhill area and eventually we took the lead from an own goal. Michael now playing in defence, cleared the ball well and put in some crucial tackles. Mathew, once again looked very confident on the ball and was attacking down the wing at every opportunity. We started the second half the same way that we finished the first. It was only a matter of time before we scored again, and we did not have to wait long. Josh beat one player before unleashing a fierce shot into the top corner to put us 2-0 up. Once again Ben Mac defended well and was definitely having his best ever day. Will, Sam and Lewis were controlling the midfield and shooting at every opportunity. The third and final goal was a super shot from Joe"the finger celebration" Smith. He almost scored another with an acrobatic overhead kick that went just wide. The game was a joy to watch and everyone agreed that the scoreline could have been a lot more.
The final game of the day saw us making many positional changes. Ben Morris came out of goal and Sam went in and Jack went up front . We started the game well and Lewis, Josh, Jack and Adam had plenty of chances to score, but either put them wide or over the bar. With Marlboro having not much of the game, it was a shock when they scored from their first attack. Again we had plenty of shots and all the play but Marlboro scored again from an own goal and finished the half leading 2-0. The second half we created chance after chance once again and we were finally rewarded with a goal. Lewis went past one player and hit a well struck shot that hit the post. Like a true striker, Jack pounced on the rebound and shot into the net. We were now trying to get the equaliser and Jack was unlucky not to get a second with a shot that brushed the post and went wide. Ben Morris was attacking well down the wing and played some great passes to Will and Lewis. Once again Ben Mac was on top in defence and played well along side Alex and Joe who put in some fierce tackles.
Time run out for us and we ended up losing 2-1 in a game that we should have at least drawn. Well done to all.

With the weather finally clearing to allow play, the team approached a tricky set of fixtures with enthusiasm. A goalless first half against Heol Hir YC Glas, dominated by the Alex-insprired defence of Luke, Greg and Nye. Toby's introduction to the second half brought a new attacking edge and was rewarded by two early second half goals from Nye, who had been switched to his more usual poacher role. The side lived to rue a number of missed chances as slick finishing from Heor Hir saw them claw back to level pegging at 2-2.
Defending uphill against the stronger Radyr Rangers side, the second game brought back memories of Christmas favourite film Zulu as wave after wave of Radyr attacks were repelled. Despite the crowd humming Men of Harlech to boost morale, it was no surprise when the defences were finally breached and the Oranges found themselves three down at the break. The defence was not to be beaten again, and held out stoically. Sam A performed miracles in goal with Harry and Sam G working tirelessly to put in some decisive tackles.
As an uneventful first half against Thornhill Red neared its end, centre half Alex crept menacingly to the edge of the box before unleashing a thunderous drive into the roof of the net from distance. The second half was dominated by solid defending from Connor, Greg and Luke and a three-man Panthers midfield with Nye latching on to a pin-point pass from Toby before drifting across the front of goal to launch what turned out to be the match-winner.

At long last the games were finally on. You could see from the first game that
the boys had not played or trained for 6 weeks. There was some good moves in
the game with Michael and Josh linking up and Sam breaking away but failing
to beat the keeper. Lewis played well as a replacement defender and made some
important clearances. Rhiwbina were gifted their first goal after some poor
defending and finished the half leading 1-0.
The second half continued much the same as the first with us constantly leaving
gaps all over the pitch and it was only a matter of time before Rhiwbina scored
their second. There was glimpses of hope with Adam attacking down the wing and
putting in crosses, One was met by Josh where he hit the top corner with a powerful
shot. Rhiwbina scored their third soon after and there could have been more
if Mathew had not cleared a shot off the line.
The second game against Pentwyn Whites was once again a challenge. There was
some excellent passing football from Sam, Josh and Michael with a goal attempt
being cleared off their line. There was some solid defending from Joe, Jack
and Lewis and a better midfield display from Will and Ben Mac.
Ben was controlling his area well and sometimes even the whole of our half.
At one stage we thought he was going to come so far out of his area that he
would be end up on their goal line!
We finished the half 0-0 but deserved to be leading. The second have we battled
well and Mathew and Adam put in some tough tackles to the dislike of the Pentwyn
crowd.
Pentwyn caught us on the break and scored the only goal of the match. Josh
on three occasions almost equalised, but it was not meant to be.
The last game of the day saw us in total control. There was some excellent
shots from Lewis, Josh, Adam, Sam and Will. All of them going close but we just
could not get it into the net.
Michael was playing in defence and defended like he had played there all season.
Mathew, for the second time of the day cleared a shot off the line.
The half finished 0-0 but we should have been at least 3-0 up. The second
half started the same as the first, Will again came close with a well directed
shot and was unlucky not to score. Joe has been watching Chelsea and was trying
to copy some of their skills while Sam was like John Terry when he nearly scored
with a header from a corner taken by Adam.
The team were rewarded with a goal when Adam caught Radyr on the break and
calmly put it past the stranded keeper. It looked like we were going to get
our first win of the day until a super Radyr shot went in and turned out to
be the last kick of the match.

The side were presented with a series of tough fixtures to belatedly kick off 2007 and lost the combative Connor to illness. Having braved an early onslaught from an accomplished Maindy Corries Red side, Toby's carefully weighted through ball set Nye up for a cool finish on rough terrain and a goal against the run of play. Despite conceding just before the break the lads bravely held on for a draw with Sam A performing miracles in the Panthers' goal, Thomas producing a string of well-timed tackles and Alex leading the defensive line with authority. In the second game a competitive Maindy Corries Black side took an early lead in a disappointing first half on the better of the two pitches. An improved second half Panthers' performance, ignited by bursts down the right flank by Sam G, was not rewarded with the equaliser it deserved.
A street-wise Thornhill Whites side provided a stiff test in the final match but the Panthers defended resolutely with 'keeper Luke and right-back Harry working hard to keep a clean sheet in the first half. In the second half the tiring Panthers' lost their focus and discipline and handed their opponents a deserved and comfortable victory.
The side were indebted to Greg who passed a fitness test before kick-off after picking up a knock during the week.
With training resuming at St David's on Tuesday night (30 January) the ten-man squad will hope to be able to reinvigorate their season during February.

The effort and performance was a massive improvement on last week in all three games.
The first game saw us play really well, with some good defending from Michael
and a shot tipped around the post by Ben.
In attack we saw Josh come close on numerous occasions, Lewis came close with
a well hit volley, Jack, Sam and Adam all had shots that narrowly missed the
goal.
Even though we were in control for most of the game, Llanrumney came away with
a 1-0 win after scoring with virtually their only shot of the match.
The second match saw us again in control, but not having the rewards that we
deserved in front of goal. Alex attacked the wing and put a precise through
ball to Lewis but his shot went just over the cross bar. Again shots from Adam,
Will and Josh came very close but we could not hit the net. The half finished
with us trailing by 1-0 to another sloppy goal.
The second half was much like the first, but we were rewarded with a goal after
Jack connected to a cross from Josh and put the ball into the bottom corner.
Both sides came close on numerous occasions, Sam just shooting wide and again
Josh not having his best day in front of goal, coming very close.
There was some excellent defending from Joe, Mathew and Jack, especially from
Mathew after clearing the ball off the line for the second week running.
The final game was a close game and Heol Hir took an early lead. Joe was pushing
further up the pitch and was looking to score with numerous long range shots.
Josh again was struggling in front of goal and was determined to get on the
score sheet.
In the second half there were numerous substitutions in order to try and get
the equaliser. There seemed to be no way through the Heol Hir defence, even
though Will, Jack and Michael continued to push forward. There was only one
tactical substitution option available to me. I decided to bring on Adam and
play with an extra attacker. Sam crossed the ball and with Adam's first touch,
he hit a powerful shot into the top corner. "GENIUS"
With time running out, we pushed for the winner and we almost got it. Lewis
beat his man on the left wing and put in a high cross into the area. "Supersub"
Adam was there again, but headed the ball against the post. Look out Dave Jones,
here I come!!

A warm and sunny morning was greeted by a much improved team display against three Pentwyn Dynamo sides - Oranges seem to thrive in good weather!
The side welcomed Ethan, who on his debut kept a clean sheet in the opening match against an inexperienced Pentwyn Dynamo Green side. He was ably assisted by his parsimonious defence of Alex, Thomas and Luke. A rare goal from Greg, plus other strikes from Nye and Sam G sealed a comfortable 3-0 win.
The second match paired the Oranges with a strong Pentwyn Dynamo Whites who took an early lead. Nye's goal late in the first half proved to be the equaliser in a tight encounter and a fine overall team display.
Pentwyn Dynamo Blues provided the opposition for the final game characterised by probing runs down the right flank from a marauding Harry and a commanding display from midfield general Toby. Two goals from Nye and one each from Sam A and Sam G set up a 4-0 win and a brief return to sanity for the coaching staff!

Due to one player being away for trials with Arsenal, one recovering from "man flu" and another gone AWOL, selection headaches had almost vanished for the first time in quite a while.
The first game saw us again start very slowly, and it was no surprise when we went 1-0 down in the first half. Just as I started to speak to the boys at half time, I could not hear myself talk due to the boys all giggling and laughing so loud. I turned my head to see what they were laughing at and all I could see was what looked like the memorable scene from "Bambi". But instead of a deer slipping on the ice, there was Cliff slipping on the mud and eventually landing totally horizontal on his back.
The half time antics seemed to turn things around for us. It was not long before we equalised after Josh dribbled past a number of players and hit a shot with venom into the top corner. We had plenty of shots at goal from Will, Adam, Sam and Josh where we hit the post and crossbar and also forced the keeper to make some goal stopping saves.
The second match was a joy to watch. The boys were definitely awake now and were playing some of their best football of the season. Within a few minutes Lewis hit a well directed shot that went in off the post. The link up play from the midfield and front players was at times magical. Jack was constantly attacking up the left wing and Will up the right. They were both growing in confidence as the half went on and were even trying the odd trick or two.The half ended 1-0, but could have easily been alot more.
Within a minute or two of the second half starting, Adam scored his first of the day to put us 2-0 up. With Ben Mac and Will battling well in midfield and Mathew's consistent defending, it made it easy for the front boys. Josh was shooting from all angles and also putting in some great crosses. One of which led to the third goal after he crossed and Adam dummied for Lewis to tap in his second of the day.
The last game was a against a determined Thornhill team. They produced some good football at the start of the game and almost took the lead on numerous occasions, but were denied either by some positive goalkeeping from Ben or confident defending from Mathew.
While they were attacking the ball broke through to Will who passed to Adam and then run the length of the half before hitting a powerful shot into the bottom corner to put us 1-0 up.
Within a minute the same happened again but this time Jack put the pass through to Adam, and he again hit a well directed shot into the corner to make it 2-0.The second half saw everyone attacking and trying to score. Even Mathew was shooting from the half way, and almost scored on one occasion. Lewis, Josh, Sam and Adam were hitting shot after shot towards goal and either just missed or the keeper made an excellent save.
It was a good day for the Blacks, but the only lasting memory for everyone will be the image of "Bambi Carey"!!!!

Recent additions to the squad were vital to proceedings as twelve players were reduced by holidays to the bare eight for this set of fixtures.
It did provide an opportunity to play a settled side across all three matches and a chance for Sherman to make his debut.1-0 down at half time against a compact Llanedeyrn Bulldogs side, Lady Luck provided an own
goal to square the match. Ethan was called upon to make some vital saves as Connor marshalled
his defence enthusiastically from centre-back.
Sherman staked a claim for a regular midfield berth with a dynamic display whilst Luke and Thomas
got forward at every opportunity from full-back.
Against bustling newcomers Star FC, an early pin-point corner to the far post from Sam G found an
unmarked Nye who bundled the ball home from six inches.
A number of chances to secure a safer victory were squandered as the side
purposefully matched their opponents' competitiveness, tackle for tackle.
The final match against a strong Splott Albion saw Panthers take an early lead from Nye's tight turn and shot.
A tiring defence lost concentration at crucial times to allow Splott to level the match before half time
and then go on to score two more in the second-half.
As limbs started to ache, Sam A "Lungs" and Sam G "Duracell" starred as they covered every blade of grass
in an attempt to get a result from a tightly fought and entertaining encounter.
Well done to the lads for a great effort. I'm sure you'll sleep well after that!

The first game saw us take on the Blues, which was a close fought affair. There were plenty of shots fired at the Blue's goal but the only one to hit the net was a thirty yard shot from Joe Smith which turned out to be the match winner.
The second game we attacked the Marlboro goal for most of the match. With nearly everyone attacking, we got caught twice on the break and we were punished with two goals from Marlboro. Josh equalised after their first goal with a well taken shot and Lewis nearly equalised when his shot glanced off the post. The last game we played our best football of the day. Any number of players could have scored, but Jack eventually put the ball in the net after a bombardment of shots from Sam, Josh, Lewis and Will. There was some good defending by Michael and Mathew and Will and Sam were linking up well in midfield. Ben Morris was froze to the spot for most of the game, but reacted well when called upon. All in all a good day apart from the weather.

Parents will get ample chance to see how well the new shirts scrub up after this set of fixtures, played in muddy conditions and, happily, between the wintry showers. The day was characterised by an inability to clear the defensive lines, particularly at corners. After a series of near misses, Panthers' parents left the ground discussing a possible sponsorship package for goal-line technology to help referees determine whether goal bound efforts have crossed the line.
Boosted by Nye's first minute opener in the first match, the side held on stoically with Sam A again demonstrating suberb positioning in goal, before two late and scrambled efforts let a strong Ely Rangers Colts side record a deserved win.
Down one-nil at half-time against Danescourt YC "D", a faultless second half performance saw the boys secure a 4-1 win. Taking full advantage of Alex's crunching tackle on the half-way line, substitute Nye and Toby combined with precision to put Sam A through for one of the best goals of the season. A neat finish from Nye and a brace of slide-rule directed lobs from Toby completed the scoring as the defence held firm at the other end.
Despite Harry's bravery in goal, Heol Hir YC Ywen's abilty to cause havoc at set pieces saw them collect a brace in each half of the final match and a tiring Panthers side, lacking Connor's arial dominance to a bug, was unable to reply.
Given the conditions the boys can be well pleased with their overall effort this morning. Best of luck with the laundry!

Coach Brown and Nye were on a scouting mission in South London so this is a report based on second hand accounts, principally Toby's! An entertaining morning, resulting in three narrow defeats.
Highlights of an opening 1-2 defeat by St Albans was Greg's superb run and finish and Harry's commanding performance in goal.
A close match followed against Rhiwbina and ended in a 0-1 defeat. Connor was Toby's Man of the Match.
A 2-3 defeat by Danescourt YC "D" saw Toby dribble half way round Cardiff (apparently!) before netting and Sam A notch a second. Two late strikes from Danescourt took the result away from the Oranges.

Panthers Orange: 0 - Rhiwbina Dragons: 1

After taking numerous phone calls from lost parents, we eventually had a full squad of 12 players at Moorland Park.
The first game saw us take control and were unlucky not to score in the first
half. There were shots from Joe, Sam, Will and Adam that came very close.
The second half was much of the same until we finally scored from a Josh strike.
A long throw from Joe to the edge of the area where Josh was taking position.
He controlled the ball and hit a fierce shot into the corner of the net. Ben
Morris controlled things well in goal and stood his ground on 2 corners palming
the crosses over the bar. A repeat of the first goal saw us go 2 up and was
no less than we deserved.
The second game was a tough game against Danescourt. The game started with us
panicking a bit in defence and conceding an early goal. We then got back on
track and played some excellent football which led to us scoring two quick goals
in succession. Josh again on the score sheet for both with two wonderful individual
goals.
The second half was very close like the first, until Adam decided to curl the
ball into the net from a corner. Lewis and Will tidied up well in midfield and
were taking the ball down the wing at every opportunity. Things could have been
closer at the end if it was not for Ben pulling off another great save. Alex,
Joe, Mathew and Jack helped us towards a great win with some excellent defending
throughout the game.
The last game was a close encounter against St Albans. Michael had a lot of
the ball and was unlucky not to score. He put Adam through to the corner where
again he curled a shot into the net from a very tight angle. St. Albans quickly
equalised and soon after took the lead. Lewis put in a tackle but was injured
from it and was replaced by Josh. Within a minute he was put through by Ben
Mac and scored making it 2-2 at half time.
The second half saw us go 3-2- down after a shot that narrowly beat Ben. Sam
was covering alot of the pitch putting in tackle after tackle. He put a ball
through to Jack who hit a great shot which was tipped around the post by the
keeper. Time run out for us to get the equaliser but the boys put in an excellent
performance against a very strong team.

WELL DONE TO SAM WILLIAMS FOR BEING "PLAYER OF THE WEEK."

In perfect playing conditions the lads had a chance to put their midweek defensive practice into effect and with one or two notable and critical exceptions they managed to clear the lines with greater efficiency this week.
The day didn't start well as Alex gamely turned up dragging an ankle injured on the stairs earlier in the week. A quick fitness test was all that was needed to determine that his would be a watching brief this morning, but thanks for coming along Alex!
The opening match against Thornhill Athletic Reds was a close affair, settled midway through the second-half when defensive frailties led to a Thornhill winner.
In the second match a goal was conceded in the first minute despite numerous opportunities to clear. The game was settled by a great header from a corner and despite peppering the Thornhill goal, their in-form keeper secured the win.
An inability to clear from goal kicks gifted Rhiwbina Dragons with two of their three goals before half-time. Sam G replied with the goal of the day, swivelling sweetly to lash in a shot from distance to see us 1-3 down at half-time. In the second half the side's confidence began to return as waves of attacks were finally rewarded when marauding Luke's bustling presence saw him score his second Panthers goal. Concentration lapsed momentarily and was enough for the Dragons to notch a fourth. Nye's brave final minute consolation effort served only to confirm that this side had not quite hit full potential, and that for all the considerable commitment and effort it was not our morning.
Next week offers different challenges - let's see if we can get the results our efforts deserve!

The first game was a very close game against a talented Llanrumney team. Both teams played some attractive football. Michael put through a pass to Josh which he hit on the volley, but saw it hit the post and go wide of the goal. Adam hit a thunderous strike which their keeper tipped around the post and was the save of the season for sure. Sam was once again covering all the pitch with his runs.He put in a great cross to Josh which he hit first time but again was blocked by the confident keeper.
The second game against Pentyrch saw us play with a great deal of confidence. From this we scored one of our best goals of the season. Mathew picked up the ball in his own half and volleyed it over the top of everyone to Jack. He beat two players and crossed the ball into the goal where Adam was waiting. He fooled everyone by back heeling the ball into the net to claim his first of the game. His second was this time a shot which came from a well waited pass by Will. The second half saw us concede a late goal from a well hit shot but enough was done early on in order to secure the win.The last game was against Panthers Orange. With some great passing football being
played by the Blacks, it was only a matter of time before the first goal came.
There was a passing move started down the left by Sam which saw the ball come
to Lewis. He put through a neat pass to Josh and he blasted the ball into the
bottom corner of the net. This was to be the story of the first half except that
Josh narrowly missed with the other chances he was given. In the second half Joe,
Mathew and Alex prevented the Oranges from getting close to Ben in goal, but they
were caught out by a great strike from Harry early on in the half. The goal conceded
seemed to wake up the Blacks and they began to create chance after chance. Josh
again was unlucky on a few occasions and on another day could have had a hat trick.I
think we need to practice our corners again due to us having one after another
and the best we could do was to only hit the post.
It was a good chance though to assess all players and I hope we can play each
other again before the season finishes in order to have another look.

Once again absentee coach Brown (off scouting Welsh and Irish internationals, this time) reports on the basis of second-hand information but by all accounts there was more decent football played at a bumpy Glan yr Afon this Saturday than at Croke Park, Dublin.
The first game provided a long-awaited victory as the defence of Alex, Greg, Luke and 'keeper Harry kept a welcome clean sheet much to the satisfaction of the absentee coach. The frustrated Pentyrch Rangers lost to two strikes from Nye.
Faced with yet another in-form 'keeper, the Oranges were unable to take a result from the second match which saw a robust Llanrumney side win 2-0, despite Sam A's own heroics between the posts.
The finale against our old friends Panthers Blacks was, as ever, an entertaining match packed with drama. Oranges lost Greg through injury early on and the reshuffled defence, including rookie right-back Nye, was unable to stop a flowing Blacks move end with a typically clinical strike from Joshua. Further reorganisation at half-time allowed the in-form Connor to leave the bench and play a decisive hand in setting up Harry to unleash a thunderous equaliser before a frantic final few minutes saw both sides fail to convert chances.

For those who regularly read the match reports, they would have noticed that there was no report put in for last week. This was down to the fact that I could not think of anything to write after the three performances at Radyr. ( I think JK Rowling would have struggled to write anything good about the morning.)This week at Glan Yr Afon though was a completely different story. The first game of the morning was against a physical Llanrumney side. We started the game well playing the passing and moving football which we have become used to for most of the season. We were rewarded with a goal by Josh in the first half and looked the better team by far. A lapse of concentration by the defence lead to an equalising goal by Llanrumney early on in the second half. We created many chances with Lewis beating his marker on numerous occasions and putting in cross after cross. As in previous games, the Llanrumney keeper, pulled off save after save to keep the scores level and prevent us getiing the winner we deserved.
The second game against Llanederyn saw us concede two goals in very quick succesion due to a talented striker. With a quick re-shuffle of personnel, things looked up and we started to repeat the football we played in the first match. We finished the half 2-0 down but we knew we still had a chance of getting something out of the game. Michael and Will were playing some of their best football of the season and a string of passes from them lead to our goal. A goal mouth scramble eneded up with Will blasting the ball into the top corner and was no less than we deserved. We created a few more chances from the long throws of either Mathew, Joe and Alex but we were unable to convert them into goals.
The final game of the day was a joy to watch for the parents and also the technical department of the team. We took an early lead after a thunderous shot from Joe which any player would have been proud to score. He was soon out done when Adam hit a half volley from the half way line which rippled the net in the top corner of the goal. The half finished with us leading 2-0 and in total control. Ben was for most of the half topping up his tan and on one occasion had to be cooled down with the water bottle. The second half saw us start slowly and we quickly conceded an early goal. This had an immediate effect on the team and it was not long before Josh was on the score sheet again. The goal involved nearly all the team with the ball being moved from the defence to attack with some clinical passing and movement. The final goal was scored by Adam who earlier on had scored from the half way line and now scored from 1.5 inches out. He assured everyone, especially Josh that the ball was not going to go over the line unless he kicked it. Do we believe him?????

Left without 'Duracell' Sam G (late injury) and the combative Connor, the boys seemed to be lacking in spirit and are clearly looking forward to the Summer break from football. In perfect football weather the side recorded three straight defeats, generously providing each opposition side with ample ammunition to shoot.
The latter stages of the final game saw some improvement with Greg providing the example to follow as he tackled his way through the midfield. Eventually Toby found himself space to provide Nye with the only scoring chance to be converted on a morning to be forgotten.
Hopefully a full strength squad will end the season in style next Saturday, when we travel to Morganstown for an 11am kick-off (any player not available to contact Ian and Clive asap).

The boys signed off for the summer break in style with their first (and last!) clean sweep this season.
Toby's brace and Sam G's close range effort after a cleverly worked passing movement were enough to overcome a battling Radyr Rangers White side.
A tight second game against against the capable Thornhill Blues seemed destined to be goalless with both sides defences limiting scoring opportunities. Luke's no-nonsense approach kept his winger at bay whilst Sherman and Harry tackled relentlessly. The deadlock was finally broken when a Toby corner bounced awkwardly over the line off an unlucky Blue defender.
The third match really was squeeky bottom time (to misquote Sir Alex!) as the side sought their first three-win haul for over twelve months against an entertaining Marlborough White side. Two goals from quick thinking Toby - Nye combinations gave the Oranges a two goal half time advantage, halved within a minute of the restart. A rejuvenated Marlborough attacked relentlessly but were repelled by stalwart defending from Alex, Connor and Thomas. Sam A produced a string of brave saves as time crept on until a late break allowed a greedy (acting on the coach's orders!) Greg to notch the decider from close range.
Clearly a much improved overall performance and one that the lads can be proud off.
