Lisvane Panthers Under 12 2005/2006 season
The boys' first year in the 11 a side game.
|
Under 12 B
Manager: Chris Hughes-Jones
The boys have had a very enjoyable Season this year after finding their feet
in what was their first year of eleven a side football. With a large backroom
staff that has jointly overseen the players fitness, development, organisation
and games this year we have managed to create our own "boot room" made famous by
the Liverpool Legend "Shankly". With our Admin Secretary- Marie
and Chief Burser- Sue the term many hands make light work certainly is apt for
this team. Thanks to one and all for what you contribute to the side and with
the great support from the Parents on the touchline this is really a team
effort. As a TEAM we have had some really good results this Year and that
includes the boys inflicting a double win over this Season's Runners up in their
League: Trowbridge.

Lisvane Panthers 'B': 11 - Heath Park
Rangers: 0
Venue: Pontcanna
Lisvane Panther's B got off to a flying
start in the U12 C division with an encouraging 11-0 win over Heath Park
Rangers. The team gave a solid performance, keeping a clean sheet in the
season's opener in their first outing into the Junior League.
Goals came from Nicky Jackson(2), Joshua Hughes-Jones (2), Sean O'Brien, Zachary Hill, Sam
Williams, Chris Cox, Rhys Williams, James Cartwright and Ryan Farrell.
Well done boys!

Lisvane Panthers 'A': 2 - Pentwyn: 11
Blackest day in Big Dave's 6 year tenure as Manager or was it a stressful day in the science room for the little mites? Traffic chaos ensured a late start, although it didn't seem as though Panthers actually arrived at all. Credit to Pentwyn, who were described by a Panthers mum as 'quick and nippy', whilst they gave little James 'a hard time' up front (he was pushed over!). So a sobering lesson. Llanishen High year 7 was markedly muted the next day. For the record, King R and Bould A helped the stats.(Jonathan Bould)

Lisvane Panthers 'A' :6 - Marlboro : 1
Big Dave effected the Paul McKenna treatment - said Tuesday did not happen - and the boys recovered their poise, against an albeit moderate Marlboro team, who were shorn of their best 2 players. Nevertheless, credit where credit is due, both teams kept on smiling. Bould A (3), Lawson L (2) and Buckley H troubled the scorers.(Jonathan Bould)

The match had barely started and Maindy took their chance to get an early
lead with poor defending by Lisvane.
This was a very competitive match and after dominating most of the play in the
first half Lisvane added a further
five goals and an own goal was conceded by Maindy to make it 6-1 at half
time.
Lisvane took their chances and goals again in the second half and added a
further six including a penalty. Maindy missed a penalty themselves but did add a further two goals late in
the game and eventually it ended 12-3 to Lisvane.
Another excellent result for Lisvane though Maindy did play their part in
what was an entertaining match for all.
Goals were scored by Nicky Jackson (4), Sean O'Brien (3), Ryan Farrell,
James Cartwright (pen), Sam Williams and Ryan Pugsley.

Lisvane Panthers 'A': 10 - Llanishen Dons: 2Inexplicable result and turnaround compared to previous Tuesday. Basics undertaken well resulted in the goal fest led by Calliva A (3), Buckley H (2), Hodge J (2), Bould A (2) and Lawson W.
Three wins out of four left us fourth in the table behind the expected league title contenders - Fairwater, Rumney and Whitchurch. With these tougher fixtures to follow, points are likely to be at a premium over the next 4 weeks. Early indications are that a mid table position could be achievable.

Lisvane Panthers 'B': 2 - Thornhill Athletic 'B': 7
Venue: Pontcanna
HT: 2-5
Lisvane unfortunately had lots of boys away for this match and local derby and
struggled to cope with a much improved Thornhill side even though they took the lead first.
The match had barely started and Lisvane took their chance to get an early
lead with poor defending by Thornhill.
This was a very competitive match and after dominating most of the play in the
first half Thornhill added a further five goals with one reply by Lisvane to make it 5-2 at half time.
Thornhill took their chance and added a further goal in the second half. Lisvane also had chances but failed to score
again and so the game ended 7-2 to Thornhill.
Lisvane played their part in what was an entertaining match for all but what was the wrong result for Lisvane.
Goals for Lisvane came from Sean O'Brien and Joshua Hughes-Jones.

AFC Whitchurch YC: 7 - Lisvane Panthers 'A': 2
Challenging experience against the Whitchurch 'FAW Galacticos'. They normally score at least 6 most weeks, so it wasn't that bad an effort from the lads. Calliva A and Lawson W getting Panthers's goals. Will scoring a second time this season direct from a corner, something George Best never achieved just once. This was much to his chagrin as he recalled in his autobiography when he hit a post direct from a corner in a game against Ipswich Town under Bobby Robson's reign in the early seventies. Robson called it a fluke, but Besty knew better. But back to Will. We're looking forward to these inswinging exocets continuing to strike fear into opposition goalies - particularly with the likes of the 'big guys' from the back coming up - Harry Williams and David 'Chopper' Harris - doing their best Terry and Campbell impressions.

Lisvane Panthers 'B': 6 - Pentwyn Dynamos: 2
Venue: Pontcanna
HT: 3-1
The match had barely gone 15mins and Lisvane took their chance to get an early
lead with a good finish and link play by Lisvane.
This was a very competitive match and after dominating most of the play in the
first half Lisvane added a further two goals but still conceded one and so went in at half time 3-1 up.
Lisvane took their chances and goals again in the second half and added a
further three with a single reply by Pentwyn
to replicate their first half score.
Lisvane missed many further chances and still had most of the play but they
could not add any more goals and it finished
6-2 to Lisvane.
Another excellent result for Lisvane though Pentwyn did play their part in
what was an entertaining match for all.
Goals for the Panthers were scored by Sean O'Brien (3), Nicky Jackson, James Cartwright and Sam Williams.

Lisvane Panthers 'A': 12 - Thornhill Athletic: 0
Venue:
Trelai
First step taken on the road to cup glory! Convincing victory over 'C' division opposition with goals from Calliva A (3); Moore J (2) - unfortunately both missed by dad Andy, who was otherwise distracted by the lively Reg (that's their pet - Reg the Bull terrier); Lawson W (2); Bould A; Buckley H; Brown B; Thomas J; Wortham G.
(Jonathan Bould)
Llanishen Dons: 12 - Lisvane Panthers 'B': 2
Venue: Pontcanna
HT: 5-1
The match was 10 minutes in and Llanishen Dons took their chance to get an early
lead with a well taken goal. A second soon followed before Lisvane pulled one back through Nicky Jackson.
This was a very competitive match and after dominating most of the play in the first half Llanishen added
a further three goals and made it 5-1 at half time. Llanishen Dons took their chances and goals again in
the second half and added a further seven goals to Lisvane's single response through Nicky Jackson.
A penalty should have been awarded to Lisvane late on but wasn't and it ended 12-2 to Llanishen Dons
who showed their pedigree in a convincing win.
An excellent result for Llanishen Dons though Lisvane did play their part in what was an entertaining match for all.

Lisvane Panthers 'A': 2 - Pentyrch Rangers: 5
Venue: Pontcanna
Pentyrch were expected to be a lively and
keen bunch, and they didn't disappoint providing a bit of a sobering lesson
for the lads. More so as Pentyrch are one of the teams we'll be fighting it
out with for mid table security or the alternative of a long season slog in
the relegation area.
Calliva A scored both Panthers goals. Young
Alessandro is certainly proving to be quite adept in his Del Piero impression
as he shows off his marksmanship. Other plus point was Moore J showing good
organisational skills in the centre of the defence. Jacob's capability for
this role also demonstrated in him securing a place at the heart of the
Llanishen High U12's team defence (a number of other Panthers lads were
selected as well for their 2-1 win over Corpus Christi - their first game).

Lisvane Panthers 'B': 4 - Heol Hir: 5
Venue: Pontcanna
HT: 2-2
This was a very competitive match and after dominating the early play Lisvane had allowed Heol Hir to come back in to the game and go in level at half time. Lisvane came out for second half looking to take their chances and get goals again and soon did with a good finish by James Cartwright to make it 3-2.Heol Hir soon responded to make it 3-3 and Lisvane then added a fourth with a James Cartwright strike to regain the lead 4-3.
Lisvane missed many further chances and still had most of the play but they could not add any more goals and Heol Hir soon equalised to make it 4-4. With two minutes to go Heol Hir added a fifth and so finished the game by winning it 5-4. Both Lisvane and Heol Hir played their part in what was an entertaining match for all. that was end to end, full of drama but unfortunately provided a loosing Lisvane side today.

At least Sven would be happy with Cardiff Parks as you are guaranteed a mid season break with that lot, so no chance of anyone being burnt out! Unfortunately, we couldn't get the starter motor going upon our return with a severe case of damp in the engine and spark plugs. Well at least we played when everyone else was off again. That's the positive way of looking at, but to say we were given the runaround would be an understatement. The front two of Alessandro and Harry Buckley got a goal each, and Stephen Davies put plenty of effort into it as sub. But everyone else were rather quiet.

Lisvane Panthers A: 1 - Fairwater Juniors: 1
Venue:
Pontcanna
Big Dave called for a 90 minute training session mid week to include a review of efforts so far and aspirations for the team going forward. The need for renewed commitment, enthusiasm and the positive attitude was recognised by the boys. This approach will be implemented by a selection policy from now on based these values, with regular positions. The outcome was that they were the first team to take a point off Fairwater this season, who are strong favourites to win the league. Alessandro got the goal - again. The result didn't matter as it was the performance that mattered (Steve Hansen would have loved it). Harry Williams undertook his Oliver Kahn impression with great gusto and was man of the match for some amazing saves. Backed up by a new back four in which Ben Brown proved he is the new Kevin Beattie, for those readers who are Ipswich fans (well his dad is). All of us were uplifted by a desire to compete and commit. The challenge is now to maintain the standard.

10 goal target was Big Dave's demand prior to kick off and the boys delivered to help reduce the negative goal difference. Marlboro are doing a Sunderland, but their players and coach deserve a lot of credit for their good sporting attitude.
Only room to mention scorers with Calliva A (4) heading the way yet again (comparisons with Del Piero are now old hat,so will use young Rossi from Old T as the benchmark - both babyface assassins); Lawson W (3); Bould A (2) with Buckley H and Hodge J chipping in with one apiece.

U12 Cup - 2nd Round
Lisvane Panthers A: 6 - AFC Rumney Juniors: 7
Venue:
Pontcanna
We could fill the Lisvane Link on this one. It was probably the most exciting game the boys have ever taken part in.
The performance was
awesome against what is a fine Rumney side. In the end, the Golden Goal
was conclusive as Cardiff Academy player, Curtis Harmer, scored his own
5th goal.
The sub plots were just as intriguing. The first Rumney goal being the
'goal that never was' going in through the side net - baffling everyone
- particularly Harry W! Ref Rob King injuring his Achilles but manfully
carrying on; big Dave's tactical switch to bring Harry B into a 5 man
midfield for the second half, which triggered the rearguard action.
Unavailability had robbed Dave of some stalwarts in defence (Moore J &
Thomas J), but Shadwell R; Harris D and Rye M battled away well. Scoring
was led again by Alessandro with 2; Lawson W (2); Buckley H and King R
also scoring (Rhydian's to make it 6-6 was just unbelievable!)

U12 A division
Pentywn Dynamos: 2 - Lisvane Panthers A: 2
Venue: Pontprennau
Although the Bluebirds struggle to reach their break even of 13 (thousand),
the 13 (thirteen) barrier was cracked on the Pontprennau touchline by a
larger than normal throng of Panthers supporters. Was this due to a lack of
interest in Xmas shopping or a more local venue?.
Anyway, it had a the desired effect, as the boys earned a hard fought point.
Not a bad effort considering that they had lost 2-11 the last time the teams
had played on a 'mad' Tuesday night in September.
Alessandro was on target yet again and supplemented by a Bould A header.
Thomas J - back from Germany school trip duty - was in the wars, receiving a
couple of hefty knocks, but stuck it out to the end (well done mate).
Half term report shows the team in mid table. Realistically, an outstanding
performance from now could see 5th secured by the season's end, although 8th
place will do, as its very tight below the Champions League places. The
outstanding Alessandro leads the goal scoring charts on 20, with Bould A
(12)and Lawson W (11) backing him up. However, the
key to the teams future success will rest on the fortitude of the defence
with the fab back 5 from the Fairwater game of Williams H (goalie), Brown B,
Moore J, Thomas J and Wortham G being the current lynchpins.

Heath Park Rangers: 0 - Lisvane Panthers B: 11
Venue:
Heath Park HT 0-3
Lisvane continued to pressurise the Heath Park Rangers defence and got an 8th through a Sean O'Brien penalty and a 9th by a deflected shot by Ryan Pugsley. Soon the 10th was to follow through Sean O'Brien with a simple tap in. The game drew to a close just before James Cartwright added his second and Lisvane's 11th with a great shot right in the bottom corner of the net.
Another excellent result for Lisvane though Heath Park Rangers did play their part in what was an entertaining match for all.
Goals for the Panthers were scored by Nicky Jackson (3), Sean O'Brien (2), Ryan Pugsley (2), James Cartwright (2) and Joshua Hughes-Jones (2).

Llanishen Dons: 6 - Lisvane Panthers A: 1
Tough encounter against a useful Dons team, who outmuscled the lads. Nothing Harry W
could do on the goals, a couple of which were very good indeed, although a couple
were also down to poor team defending, which we can work on.
Bould A scored a nice 20 yard free kick as a consolation; but controversy reigned
at 1-6 down (its all relative of course!) to wake up a rather subdued Panthers support,
when Bould junior had a well taken goal disallowed due to the eagle eyed linesman
(Bould senior) calling him marginally off side. Some unoriginal comments flew the
linesman's way, but the loan of Big Dave's glasses for next week is an unfounded rumour.

Thornhill Athletic: 2 - Lisvane Panthers B: 5
Venue:
Heath Park HT 2-3
Within 5 mins Thornhill responded twice though to take a deserved 2-1 lead. This woke Lisvane up and was shortlived as on 30 mins Nicky Jackson made it 2-2 with a neat low drive and finish in the corner.
Just before half time Lisvane took the lead again and made it 3-2 with another good finish, after good teamplay by their striker Sean O'Brien. That was how it finished at the half time mark.
This was turning out to be a great local derby that had end to end in play. After dominating most of the early part of the second half of play Lisvane, after a couple of inspired subsituitions by their Managers, added a further goal with a neat finish in the corner by Ryan Pugsley to make it 4-2 to Lisvane.
More chances appeared but it wasn't until the end of the game that another substitute Sam Vincent rounded the keeper and finished to make it 5-2 to Lisvane.
This was another excellent result for Lisvane though Thornhill Athletic did play a major part in what was a totally entertaining local derby match that had it all and left all the players feeling like they had been on a rollercoaster with all the twists and turns in it. Both teams should be proud of their displays today and were a credit to their Clubs.
Goals for the Panthers were scored by Sean O'Brien (2), Nicky Jackson, Ryan Pugsley and Sam Vincent.
(Chris Jackson)
Hi All, Just a quick reflection on the game against Thornhill on Saturday - a 5-2 win.
Conditions, pitch - very heavy.
The boys played very well - we were losing 2-1 at one stage - our shape was a bit loose on occasions but the boys responded well to reorganisation requests! All the squad played and put in 100% effort and helped us finish a lot stronger than Thornhill.
Goals - Sean x2, Nicky, Ryan P, Sam (mousie) - all well taken with some great assists. A lot of the credit for these good performances must be put down to the midweek training by Chris J and the team briefs by Peter C and Nick.
A new feature this new year - we will announce a "man of the match" for each game. This week it was Sam Williams - incredible midfield strength and vision throughout the game - the best game I've seen Sam play in my opinion. One special mention - it was a close call with Michael who put in some fabulous saves - one of note when we were losing - he was very brave and closed the strikers down being quick off his line - well done Mike!
Let's get a good result against the "Wolves" this week.
Good luck.

Fairwater Juniors: 16 - Lisvane Panthers A: 0
Unfortunately, this wasn't a misprint as some wag enquired of me this morning,
whilst you can see Frank Bough and the old Grandstand teleprinter blowing a fuse - 16 ( S I X T E E N ).
The phrase character building springs to mind, and that is what is now required against
the mighty Urdd next week. We were always going to be
up against it anyway, but with a mixture of unavailability and illness,
Fairwater proved what a goal instict they have - all over the pitch.
Reports have filtered back that the left footed brigade (Wortham G, Davies S and Thomas J)
did battle manfully, but in the end to no avail.
However to avoid readers, parents and players alike getting too downhearted,
its not all doom and gloom in the environs of local U12 football.
On Friday, the Llanishen High team beat Radyr Comp 5-1 to get through to the Cardiff Schools semis,
and with half the team constitued of these Panthers, they're still alive and kicking!

Lisvane Panthers B: 6 - Birchgrove Wolves: 2
The match had barely gone 10 mins before Lisvane took their chance to get an early lead with
a cool finish by Sean O'Brien to take Lisvane into a 1-0 lead. Nicky Jackson soon scored for Lisvane Panthers to make it 2-0 with a
neat finish in the corner.
After good play by Lisvane Ryan Farrell was taken out in the area for a penalty to be awarded. James Cartwright took it and
placed it right in the top corner to make it 3-0 to Lisvane.
Lisvane continued to dominate the play and added a further goal
just before half time through Nicky Jackson, after good teamplay, to make it 4-0 to Lisvane at the break.
With a third of the second half gone Lisvane lost Zac Hill to injury after already using all their subs.
Birchgrove regained their zest after this and duly pulled a goal back to make it 4-1.
Another goal soon followed with a well taken goal by Birchgrove to make it 4-2.
Lisvane seemed to wake up
again after this and a second goal from Sean O'Brien for Lisvane soon followed after good link play and a good finish to make
it to 5-2. After a fine run Sean O'Brien rounded off his hat trick with a shot
that hit the post but was followed in by
him to get the rebound and Lisvanes sixth goal.
Lisvane missed further chances and still had most of the play but they could not add to
their score so the game ended 6-2 to Lisvane to gain a deserved 3 points.
(Chris Jackson)
A controlled win at a canter really - probably took life a little easy beginning second half when they pulled back two goals to make it 4-2.
Slight scare when Zac got injured and the part-time manager had foolishly put on all the subs at half time - however, the team rallied to a comfortable 6-2 win - well done all.
Well taken goal by James - a well placed penalty, Nicky with 2 and Sean with a delightful (poachers) hat-trick!
Man of match goes to Sean!

A day for the proverbial brass monkeys! But a vital result gained against a
spirited 10 man Urdd side, who although giving a few free
kicks away tended to win more of the 50/50s. But not against man of the match
Wortham G, who was an example the other boys need to follow in terms of
determination. Well done George!
So, a fluctuating performance, which started well by going 2- 0 up through
Calliva A and Buckley H. The cold obviously numbed everyone, as Urdd roared back
to go 3-2 up. In the end though, some character shone through and the extra man
difference was made to pay as Lawson W equalised, and Buckley H and Bould A
secured the points.
Only 4 games to go in a real relegation dogfight between ourselves, Urdd,
Llanishen for the 2nd relegation place. The return against Urdd could be a 'pay

Lisvane Panthers B: 1 - Marlboro Sports Black: 2
Venue:
Pontcanna HT 0-2
The match had barely started and chances appeared for both teams.
Good defending and goalkeeping by both sides kept
it at 0-0 for quite a while.Eventually a breakthrough came as Marlboro broke through to score against Lisvane's stand
in goalkeeper in a dubious offside decision that benefited the Marlboro Striker to make it 1-0.
Towards the end of the
first half a well taken goal by Marlboro put them 2-0 up with a chipped shot that beat the keeper with ease. This was
how it ended at half time though the game had been pretty evenly balanced.
This was a very competitive match and after dominating the early play in the second half Lisvane nearly pulled one back
but narrowly missed a good chance.
The Lisvane football was now flowing and lots of chances were created but not taken
as they dominated this part of the game. The keeper had been swapped again for Lisvane and after reorganisation they
got the goal they deserved to come back into this game. After good link play and a good ball by his fellow striker Lisvane's
Sean O'Brien popped up to make it 2-1 and game on. Lisvane missed many further chances and still had most of the play
but they could not add any more goals and so finished this local derby on the end of a defeat. Marlboro winning 2-1 in a
game that Lisvane deserved at least to share the spoils of this game.
Both Lisvane and Marlboro played their part in what was an entertaining match for all. It was a tale of two halves that
was end to end and full of drama. Unfortunately Lisvane were on the losing side today.
(Chris Jackson)
A tough top of the table clash - very cold day - some fingers got frost-bite trying to put the nets up. A very strong wind and in greatest tradition a game of 2 halves!
Some challenges for us with Michael being unavailable for this match - he had played superbly in goals up until this week. Ryan F showed his true spirit by offering to play in goals for us - pulled off some good saves. Second half Ryan played out and Ben took on the challenge of being our last player - pulled off a very brave save as well.
Thank you to Ryan and Ben for doing your best for the team.
They took a 2-0 HT lead - with two well placed goals.
Second half we dominated and had a serious of chances where we couldn't quite finish them off. Another nicely taken chance by Sean with 15 minutes to go but they hung on bravely and you could sense their delight with a win against us.
A draw would have been a fair result - however we need to bounce back next week.
Man of match - for some solid defending and stylish runs down the left wing - Rhys Williams

The match had barely gone 15 minutes and Lisvane took their chance to get an early lead with a good finish and link play by Lisvane's forwards for Sean O'Brien to make it 1-0.
A few minutes later Pentwyn replied with a controversial penalty that was converted to make it 1-1. Lisvane responded immediately from kick off with good link play and passing that set up Sean O'Brien for his and Lisvane's second goal with a simple tap in.
This was a very competitive match and after dominating most of the play in the first half Lisvane slipped up just before half time when Pentwyn broke away on the counter attack to score and make it 2-2.
The second half saw Lisvane continue to dominate but it took a further 15 minutes for Lisvane to gain the upper hand and take a 3-2 lead when Nicky Jackson took on three defenders and lobbed the keeper with a great goal. Five minutes later Lisvane took their chance and added a further goal with a low driven shot in the corner by Ryan Pugsley to make it 4-2 to Lisvane.
Soon another goal was added by Lisvane through Nicky Jackson when he rounded two defenders and finished under the keepers body with a good finish to make it 5-2.
Lisvane missed further chances before Ryan Farrell opened his account with a well driven shot in the far top corner to make it 6-2 to Lisvane.
With five minutes to go Ryan Farrell added his second and Lisvane's seventh with another good shot that nestled in the far corner off the net. Pentwyn were to have the last say though and to their credit responded with a third goal before the final whistle. Another excellent result for Lisvane though Pentwyn did play their part in what was an entertaining match for all.

Good result.
We made hard work of this match first half - missed quite a few chances.
We put ourselves under pressure at 2-2 and another magical substitution by me when I bought on our only sub, Michael ......and Chris was injured 5 minutes later!
We pulled ourselves together though and a comfortable win at the end - well done all - some cracking goals, Nicky, Sean, Ryan F and a superb finish for Ryan P !
Congratulations this week:
Chris J - it was the fitness factor that won us this match and I put this down to the training on Tuesday nights - well done Chris!>
Man of match - no doubt Joe McDonald - his best game for the team and some wonderful tackling and defending. Well done Joe!

HT 2-0
The match had barely started and Lisvane took their chance to get an early lead with Trowbridge defenders backing off a Nicky Jackson chip looked to be going in until the Trowbridge keeper made a great save and got his fingertips to it. Unfortunately as the ball trickled to the line Sean O'Brien made sure it was in as he followed in to tap it over the line and make it 1-0.
A few minutes later Nicky Jackson made it 2-0 with a neat finish past the keeper into the corner of the net. Trowbridge still had the wind with them and nearly took advantage as they created some good chances but unfortunately failed to score.
Some excellent goalkeeping and strong defending by Lisvane meant it was 2-0 to Lisvane at half way mark.
After dominating most of the play in the first half Lisvane now had the wind with them and soon added a further goal 5 minutes into second half through Sean O'Brien after some good interplay with the midfield to make it 3-0.
Lisvanes 4th was soon to follow after a nice move that finished with a great cross and Sean O'Brien was on hand to grab his Hat trick. Lisvane were now dominating the game and a 5th was to follow as a clearance by the keeper landed at Sam Vincent's feet and he looked up and returned the ball back into the Trowbridge net with a great 25 yard shot to make it 5-0.
Another goal to make it 6-0 was soon to follow as a neat cut back to the edge of the box found Ben Reid to provide a nice finish after some good link play by the Lisvane team.
James Cartwright soon popped up with a 7th goal for Lisvane with a great 25 yard shot that nestled right in the corner of the net an gave the Trowbridge keeper no chance. Lisvane continued to pressurise the Trowbridge defence and got an 8th just before the end of the game through another Sean O'Brien (his 4th) goal after some great team link play that was unselfishly laid off for him to place the ball into the corner of the net.
Though further chances followed for both sides this was how the game finished with an 8-0 Lisvane win that was to provide Trowbridge with their first defeat of this Season. This was an excellent result for the Lisvane team though Trowbridge did play their part in what was an entertaining match for all and a match that wasn't as one sided as the score suggests.

Quick report on yesterdays match v Trowbridge.
Weather - freezing - team motivation led by Peter C - Chelsea thought they were unbeatable!
Team - a lot of our players were unavailable and we had to change the team around with just the bare 11 players - thankfully no injuries.
First Half: against a very strong wind - we took a 2-0 lead early on and actually could have scored more - the wind took some great efforts wide of the goals.
Some great motivation by the coaching team half time and we ran out comfortable winners 8-0 against an unbeaten team all season.
Fantastic team effort - congratulations to all the team - 4 goals for "poacher" Sean was a highlight!
Man of match - difficult decision with all the team playing well - Ryan Farrell - did not hesitate to help the team and go in goals with Michael and Ben unavailable - and he pulled off some great one-on-one saves first half that led us to this great win - well done Ryan.

AFC Rumney: 3 - Lisvane Panthers A: 5
Venue: University Playing fields, Llanrumney
Sven would be delighted as the lads had their second winter break of a month, and should be as fresh as a Plaid poppy for Germany. But they hadn't forgotten what a football looked like as the two teams served up a really good game - this is a recurring theme with Rumney this past couple of years, and is a great credit to both teams.
Goal scorers were Calliva A (2); Lawson W (2) and Buckley H. Some well constructed and taken efforts here, but they were based on an excellent performance from the back four, with Thomas J man of the match at left back with robust tackling, but also fine distribution too. Subs Racz J, Shadwell R and King R kept the team energy up when they came on in the second half. No appearances for Harris D and Rye M this week, but their positive attitude helps team spirit and means they deserve to start next time.
Although not quite mathematically certain of safety yet, if we win the return game with Rumney in 2 weeks time, another 'A' division contract should be within Big Dave's grasp - assuming he can handle the pressure; the players think he's hands on enough; there is no Australian lurking in the background etc, etc...

Marlboro Sports Black: 2 - Lisvane Panthers B: 4
HT 1-1
Venue: Heath Park
The match had barely started and chances appeared for both teams. Good defending and goalkeeping by both sides kept it at 0-0 for quite a while.
Eventually a breakthrough came as Marlboro broke through against the run of play to score the first goal after a ricochet fell to the Marlboro Striker to make it 1-0.
Towards the end of the first half and after a long wave of play in Marlboro's half a great through ball by Sam Williams found Nicky Jackson who ran on to brush off the defender and the on coming keepers challenges, round them and then finish into the far corner of the net with a low drive.
Other chances followed but this was how it ended at half time even though Lisvane had dominated most of the play.
This was a very competitive local derby match that saw Lisvane carry on dominating the early play at the start of the second half with good flowing team football and lots of chances being created. After good link play and a good run into the area Nicky Jackson got Lisvane's second as his cross shot deflected in off the despairing defenders leg to make it 2-1 to Lisvane.
Within another 5 minutes Nicky Jackson had his hat trick as an intelligent through ball by Ryan Farrell found his striker who ran on, cut inside the defender and curled a great chipped shot into the far corner of the top of the net.
Lisvane missed further chances and still had most of the play before adding their and Nicky Jackson's fourth goal. Another great through ball from midfield by James Cartwright found Nicky Jackson down the wing and again he cut inside to finish with a shot in the near top corner of the net this time.
Marlboro soon responded with a good run from midfield, that beat four of Lisvane tackles, the player then found his fellow striker who neatly finished inside the keepers near post to make it 4-2 to Lisvane.
No more goals occurred in this game though chances were created by both sides and so a 4-2 deserved victory to Lisvane was how it finished. The team has recently raised their game and this showed today as they produced a great team performance after going down 1-0.
Both Lisvane and Marlboro played their part today in what was an entertaining match for all those who were watching and playing.

Another excellent win against a side higher in the league placements than ourselves.
A very competitive game and they clearly did not like losing to us!
It proves a point that our super 8-0 win the week before against league leaders was no fluke!
We went a goal down early on and again we showed great character to fight back.
Some great performances throughout the entire team players and this has to be one of the best squad performance this season.
MoM - not a difficult decision this week Nicky Jackson with all four goals -(one deflection!).
The first goal was a beauty, Nicky displayed good strength and speed to hold off an aggressive defender and put it calmly around the keeper!
Another highlight, great to see Giles at the game!!

Lisvane Panthers A: 4 - AFC Rumney: 6
Venue: Heath Park
Whirlwind start from Rumney had them 3 up inside first 20 minutes. The
boys battled fairly well after that without quite capturing the fluency
of 2 weeks ago. Some well taken goals from Lawson W; 'speedster' Buckley
H (where did that sprint come from?!) and Bould A (2).
With Rumney securing 3rd place with this win, the league remains tight
below that, so one more win a necessity with 2 games to go. Also, nice
to hear from their coach that they have enjoyed their games against us
the most this season.
Finally, a note of well done to Alessandro for being selected for the
league representative squad.

Lisvane Panthers B: 3 - Llanrumney Utd: 3 HT 3-3Venue: Pontcanna.
In swirling winds on a very cold morning at Pontcanna with the match barely started chances and mistakes soon arose for both teams.
Good defending and goalkeeping by both sides kept it at 0-0 for quite a while. Eventually a breakthrough came as Llanrumney broke through to score against Lisvane as they failed to clear the ball to make it 1-0.
With the wind stopping any flowing football a pull back to the edge of the area five minutes later saw a great strike by Sam Williams as the ball dipped just under the bar and into the net to make it 1-1.
Soon a crossfield shot failed to be cut out by Lisvane's defence and goalkeeper and with them out of position a pullback to the centre of the goals saw the Llanrumney striker have a simple tap in to make it 2-1 to them.
Another goal soon followed as Lisvane failed to clear again and Llanrumney added a third to make it 3-1.
Lisvane responded almost immediately with a crossfield ball that found Sean O'Brien on the far post for a simple tap in to make it 3-2 to Llanrumney.
Just before the half time mark Lisvane added a well deserved equaliser after a great throughball to Sean O'Brien who ran on with the ball cut inside three Llanrumney defenders with some deft footwork and slotted past the advancing goalkeeper into the corner of the net to make it 3-3.
This is how it ended at half time. This was a very competitive match and after dominating the early play in the second half Lisvane nearly scored again but narrowly missed a good chance.
A good penalty appeal for Lisvane soon followed but wasn't given so still it remained even.Chances occured for both sides but neither team took them as the conditions had a big influence on the lack of quality football being able to be played today.
Passes and chances went astray as the game became very disjointed and a little more composure and teamplay in front of goals in the latter part of the game would have saw a Lisvane win but it was not to be. The Llanrumney keeper had a very good game today and made sure that no more goals were conceded as the game fizzled out into a draw.
(Chris Jackson)
A very blustery and very cold day. Only 11 players to choose from, so team selection was made easier for the coaching team.
First Half
Wind against us - they quickly went 3-1 ahead - Sam Williams had pulled back a great goal from the edge of the box.
Team shape was not the best however, Sean pulled back 2 goals to make it 3-3 for half time - one of his goals was the best he's ever scored for us in my opion - a lovely through ball from Ryan Farrell and he looked like Thierry Henry as he calmly took on the defence to slot the goal in.
Half time 3-3 having played against the wind - to be honest I thought we would have won the second half fairly comfortably.
Second Half
As it turned out - if was only because of some sound defensive work by our back 5 that saved a point for us.
MoM for that reason goes to Chris Cox - he put in some stunning defensive work and has the bruises to show for it.
The good run continues - well done all - we need to go up a gear for the next match.

Lisvane Panthers A: 3 - AFC Whitchurch : 5Venue: Pontcanna.
Hit by last minute withdrawals due to illness and injury including George's
story of how some wood he was smashing with a sledgehammer ending up badly
bruising his Achilles tendon is an interesting one! This meant that Shadwell R,
Rye M and Harris D stepped into the breach in defence and battled manfully.
After being three nil down after 20 minutes, they gave as good as they got in a
very entertaining encounter, and should be very proud of themselves. It was
Whitchurch's last match and one they had to win to have any chance of winning
the league. It was also Michael Prentice's first game against old team mates. He
was his normal handful on the left, but Rory, with assistance from King R, did a
pretty good job.
The game was also noteworthy for Racz J's first goal for the club, and what a
cracker too from 20 yards. Lawson W (2) scored the other goals.
The weekend's results show its all going down to wire for the last game against
Urdd. If you are of a nervous disposition try and avoid
Pontcanna field on a Saturday morning soon!

Trowbridge: 2 - Lisvane Panthers: 3
HT 0-2
Venue: Greenway Park.
The match had barely started and chances appeared for both teams. Good defending and goalkeeping by both sides kept it at 0-0 for quite a while. Michael Rees the Lisvane Goalkeeper was in fine form today and made some great one on one saves in the first half to keep the score even.
Eventually with 10 minutes to go a breakthrough came as Lisvane broke through to score the first goal after a fine pinpoint cross by Nicky Jackson found Lisvane's Striker Sean O'Brien's head to make it 1-0 to Lisvane. A second goal a couple of minutes later saw the same combination create another goal with Sean O'Brien tapping in his second from a few yards out after a pullback into the box. Other chances followed but this was how it ended at half time.
This was a very competitive match that saw Trowbridge and Lisvane create many more chances but with the game going from end to end neither side could score. With about 15 minutes to go Trowbridge managed to pull a goal back to make it 2-1 after scrambling the ball over the line. Within a couple of minutes Lisvane had decided that they wanted their double over what could be the Champions of their Division this Year and with the ball finding Nicky Jackson he looked up and lobbed the goalkeeper to give Lisvane a dramatic 3-1 lead. A second goal for Trowbridge though soon followed after a throw in found their striker to finish in the top corner and make it 3-2 with only a few minutes to go.
A nail biting climax lasted for a few minutes more though before the Referee eventually blew for full time and thus give Lisvane a dramatic 3-2 win over a Trowbridge side that have lost only 2 games all Season, both to Lisvane.
Both Lisvane (bare 11) and Trowbridge played in a very entertaining match today that was almost a classic with it's twists and turns and eventual finale. The large parental support had certainly witnessed a great game of football today.

Another double triumph this weekend against top of the table Trowbridge at Greenway Road.
We had the bare 11 players with some last minute withdrawals - we will need to sharpen up this for next season we will devise a plan.
Good to have Rhys back in the team and he put in a great performance considering he has been out through injury.
First Half
We scored the first 2 goals - very well taken by poacher Sean - clinically executed and maintained his impressive scoring sequence.
However, a clutch of some very brave saves from Michael somehow kept a clean sheet in the first half after some adventurous attacking play by Trowbridge.
Some how they seemed to fear us and always kept 4 players at the back - the 8-0 loss to us a few weeks back had clearly shocked them.
Second Half
We started well however they pulled one goal back and this turned the game into a very tense affair.
A great through ball to Nicky - who calmly finished in style brought a great relief to all.
To be fair to Trowbridge, they hit back with a second goal in the dying seconds.
There were claims from one of the senior touch side committee members (Carl) that the ref was playing extra time - we held out for yet another great result.
WELL DONE ALL!
MoM - for brave and solid goalkeeping - Michael Rees

Maindy Corries:1 - Lisvane Panthers B: 1 HT 1-0Venue: Blackweir.
The match had barely started and Lisvane (with only a bare side) nearly took their chances to get an early lead but with good defending by Maindy and a poor pitch the Lisvane Team failed to take their chances in front of the goals. This was a very competitive match and after dominating most of the play in the first half Lisvane were able to get the breakthrough when Nicky Jackson beat a couple of defenders cut inside and chipped the ball into the top corner of the net to make it 1-0 to Lisvane.
This was how it remained at the half way mark. In the second half the game went from end to end but no goals were scored until 10 mins from the end when Maindy pulled back a goal that was offside but wasn't given and made it 1-1.
With only a few minutes remaining Lisvane and Maindy both had chances to take all 3 points but failed to convert them and so the spoils were shared as it ended in a 1-1 draw. With key players missing today Lisvane had one of their off days but at least still managed to get a point against the determined 10 man team from Maindy.
Hopefully this result will still be good enough to secure 3rd spot and promotion and that all the good work hasn't been undone in this one underperformance and off day.
Fingers crossed !!!

Urdd:5 - Lisvane Panthers B: 1Venue: Pontcanna.
A difficult match to summarise in many ways. Obviously, a disappointing result, but the performance was a mixed bag. There was some good football at the beginning, but the lads now realise that if you don't take your chances when you are on top, you'll pay for it. Lawson W scored the Panthers goal. Another one with his right foot, which summed up an outstanding season for Will.
Final position is now reliant on other results and the administrators!

Pentyrch Fives Tournament (Pentrych RFC)
If the Blues can do it, so can the Panthers! Yes, partial redemption for Tuesday, with a repeat of last year's win. Fine squad performance and determination, which saw only one goal conceded in 5 games - a well done to Moore J - Jacob did the bulk of the goal keeping duties, and made a crucial save in the final. Goal of the tournament was Calliva A's in the final - Alessandro's shooting boots had been a bit awry earlier on, but he finished off a fine passing move with a first time scorcher, which all spectators appreciated. Results and scorers:-
| 1-0 | Rumney | (Brown B - last minute breakaway, which Ben took with real aplomb). |
| 2-0 | Pentyrch | (Bould A; Lawson W) |
| 3-1 | Capital Trucks 'B' | (Bould A x2; Moore J ) |
| 2-0 | Marlboro (semi) | (Bould A; Lawson W) |
| 2-0 | Capital Trucks 'A' (final - WINNERS!) | (Calliva A; Lawson W) |
