Lisvane Panthers Under 11 2005/2006 season

The last year of Mini Football.

Annual Reports

Under 11 Red

Manager: Tony Hughes
The U11 reds were formed this season using players, some of whom had not played any kind of organised football before, and a few who had experience from the Panthers Black team.
So it was with some trepidation that we entered our first matches.
A useful draw against an experienced Thornhill side was followed by two defeats, with Matt (the cat) Clifford, supported by the improving defence of Mathew Davis, Michael Snook, Tom Boyd and Curtis Stranger, keeping the score sheet to respectable level.
This was pretty much the way of things for the next few months - quite a few losses with a smattering of draws but loads of fun.
Then came the first victory a 1 nil win against a very good Maindy side at Maindy. The goal came by way of a flowing move involving Lloyd Hughes, Gabby French, Charlie Evans, Lloyd Tomkin and an exquisite finish from Yuseoff Talib.
The long overdue win was greeted with celebrations that actually took longer than the match itself.
And so the season continued, not so many losses, more draws and the odd win and yet more fun.
I would like to thank all the players for all their efforts. I am proud to say that all in all the U11 Reds have improved beyond recognition, and could now hold their own against most sides - well done !!!!!!!
A special thank you from myself and all the players to Gabby French our only girl player who has been involved in the black and red team from the very start. Gabby will play for a girls team next season. She has been tremendous and we wish her luck.

Under 11 Black

Manager: Andy Ward
An excellent season which has seen us win most of our games, draw a few but rarely lose.
Most of the time the boys have excelled themselves and have had the advantage in most games but have not always scored.
The biggest improvement has been that the boys are playing as a team and are actually passing to each other and not hogging the ball as in the previous season.
The struggle is now over as we have found a very committed goal keeper in Harry Squires. We don`t have to bribe Harry to be in goal and when there he does an excellent job.
Our once bribed goal keeper Alex Williams now plays in defence with Thomas Morgan, both a force to be reckoned with when met by the opposition.
Michael Ward has shown excellent ability for playing in defence, a position he has only just started playing in towards the end of this season, rather than his usual midfield.
Centre-mid sees Hugh Meatyard who has scored lots of terrific goals, especially when things were not going our way.
Our two up-front players David Thomas and Leo Llewellyn are excellent goal scorers - even scoring some great goals from headers this season.
Some excellent corners too from David - on occasion straight into goal.
On each wing Adam Salamon and James Gough both strong players and both excellent in their positions.
In all an excellent season and I look forward to next season. The boys are a great team on and off the pitch. There is never a cross word between them especially seen on our football tour to Weymouth where we had a great time even though it was very windy on the journey down - ask Harry!!
The tour resulted in us being out of the final by one point.
We are now trying to organise a few 11-a-sides in preparation for next season and look forward to entering a very competitive league.
We enjoyed the Radyr tournament but were knocked out of the final by the toss of a coin, ask me the coach!!!
Thanks to all the parents and finally thanks to Arthur who attended some of our training sessions and matches.

Under 11 Orange and Blue

Managers: Adrian Chilcott and Dave Westwood
The 2005-2006 season for Lisvane Panthers Under 11 Orange & Blue teams has been very successful.
The quality of football has improved dramatically as the players mature and move into 11-a-side next year.
We started the year with a squad of 19 and ended with 20.
Halfway through season we decided that the rota system wasn't giving the boys/girl enough playing time so we split the team into 2 squads Orange & Blue, and although this meant we were a little stretched on occasions I believe all benefited from the extra playing time.
Orange squad:
Tom Humphreys as reliable as ever between the sticks and he certainly has a good temperament for a goalie!!!!!
The core defence players James Barry, Ed Morris and Rhys Jones have been really solid and very difficult to score against. Midfield has seen Zach Bartlett continue with his strong central and creative play, this year scoring far more goals than ever before. Jack Sanders also continues in his strong dominant enforcer role protecting the likes of Jo O'Grady who has developed his all round game more. This leaves the front line to be led by James Berridge and Jacob Chilcott who both performed well on the few occasions their rugby commitments allowed them to play.
Blue squad:
Again we're lucky to have a second good goalie in David Gooding who played his 1st season with the Panthers, he too was hampered in his appearances due to selection for Cardiff Schools Rugby team.
In defence the team were superbly marshalled by Alex Westwood who continues to read the game way in excess of his age, Matthew Davies who got stronger and stronger as the season wore on and was ably supported by the dependable Sam Williams. Midfield duties have shared by number of boys Henry Nott who has played with us since u8s. This may be Henry's last season as he's going away to school and he certainly ended on a high with thunderbolt shooting being remembered by all. Edward Poynter showed alot of deft touches and if he could add a little steel to his game could become a real force next season. Matthew Hudson added versatility by playing in both midfield and attack and certainly didn't let the side down in either position. Max Andrews also played in both positions and showed he was not afraid to put his foot in to challenge for the ball.
Up front our pocket dynamo Harry Evans has tried gamely, while Joanne Westwood has really showed her class and scored some lovely goals.
All in all it's been a great season. I must thank my fellow blue coach Dave Westwood, also all the parents especially Anne Humphreys, Clive Davies, Tony and Karen Bartlett who have helped me this year in juggling between being here there and everywhere! A great team spirit has formed with these boys which I hope will continue next year as we go up to the juniors and the full size pitch!!! Well done Boys and Girls you have a lot to be proud of!

Lisvane Panthers Under 11 Black

Venue: Blackweir

Game 1: Panthers v Llanederyn Bulldog B

Now normally the boys are asleep in the fist half, so this was a match with a difference. The boys managed to obtain two goals in the first half. This was through great communication and skilful passing between the players which was very impressive at this level.

The first outstanding goal from Mike Ward who managed to score with a lobbed kick outside the goal area.

The second goal by Huw Meatyard who demonstrated the power of his right leg even after a nasty injury from school which has only just healed.

Unfortunately injuries were sustained by Huw Meatyard (right leg again) and Adam Salamon in the first half, but these were quickly resolved after a little rest.

Llanederyn provided a great performance and scored a goal within the end of the first half.

Words of encouragement from our Coach (Andy Ward) at half time gave our players a further boost with David Thomas scoring after a perfect pass from our forwards.

Panthers 3 Llanederyn 1

Game 2: Panthers v Marlboro Sports White

The second game meant a change of pitch, unfortunately this pitch was water logged and had some deep puddles in the one goal area.

No worries!

The first half went well with a good performance from both sides and neither team scoring.

Second half had a lot of action with a great volley from David Thomas who secured the winning goal at the expense of the other team splashing out!

The Marlboro goal keeper was not happy!

Great entertainment for the parents.

Panthers 1 Marlboro 0

Game 3: Panthers v Thornhill Athletic Gold (Girls)

This was a great game with the Thornhill players providing strong performances.

Lisvane scoring in the first half with goals from Adam Salamon and MikeWard.

The second half showed a weakness in our defence with Thornhill scoring.

Don't look Andy!

This stepped up the pace by the boys delivering a further 4 goals.

These were shared between Mike Ward and Huw Meatyard.

Panthers 6 Thornhill 1

Overall a great result by the Panthers.

Lisvane Panthers Under 11 Black

Venue: Court Field

A pleasant appearance from Arthur Palfrey our Panthers President, who took the opportunity to talk to the Lisvane Panther's players prior to the Matches

Thanks Arthur!

Game 1: Panthers v Fairwater Juniors A

The game started fast and furious (well for most of the lad's) The first half saw a good effort but we know we can do better.

James Gough kicking superb corners, with awesome precision. David Thomas getting the headers but so close yet no result

Here's James Gough yet again with the long kick, but this goal keepers good!!

Who's this? Adam Salamon on the outside with no one able to stop him, (not even the Goal keeper) strikes with a right and scores the first goal just at the end of half time.

Coach gives some advise on the basic's and the boys get on with the second half of the game. <>Adam Salamon yet again sinking one back in the net after a great pass from James Gough

Fairwater managed to score in the second half but this was due to a hick up in our defence and a determined opposition.

A final goal from James Gough after a cracking pass from Adam. Is there no stopping these two? Great support from all positions!

Great game!!

Panthers 3 Fairwater Juniors 1

Game 2: Panthers Black v Panthers Blue

Not often we play each other so it was interesting to see how this was going to go. The Blue's were down on players so we gave them Leo at the start, who by all accounts was playing like a Jack Russell.

The first half was a little slow with both teams holding there own. Shaun's knee played up a little and needed to come off for a short while.

Half time showed the power of the Coaches lungs. Boys determined now to get the result.

Second half saw a good effort but Adam missing a great opportunity!! SpecSavers!! chants from the supporters.

Things looking bleak can we do it? James Gough once again made sure of that with a blast of a kick.

Bring it on!!!

Great performance from both teams.

Panthers Black 1 Panthers Blue 0

Game 3: Panthers v Grangetown BC Claret

Bit of fatigue setting in here with good performances from both teams.

Adam Salamon and Mike Ward putting in a solid performances.

First Half seeing no results despite the efforts, Coach gives encouragement to the team.

Second half saw great defence from both teams David Thomas taking a blow to the stomach from a high kick, but managed to keep playing.

Good effort from both teams

Panthers 0 Grangetown 0

Overall another great result by the Panthers.

Lisvane Panthers Under 11 Black

Venue: Willows School

A Bitterly Cold Day!

The Panthers team's generally had the flu epidemic. The Panthers Red team did not play at all due to absenteeism so we managed to use 2 of their players to make up the numbers.

Thanks Reds!

Game 1: Panthers v Splott Albion

Coach knows its going to be tough!

Boys show great football despite the bitter conditions. Boys missing at least eight opportunities by hitting everything from the goalie the posts the bar, players etc

These boys should be wide awake by now in these conditions but the traditional Panthers first game first half sleep still prevails.

Coach wakes the boys up and second half shows the boys can do better with Splott defending well. Unfortunately Splott defended too well with no opportunities for Panthers to score.

Panthers 0 Splott Albion 0

Game 2: Panthers Black v Thornhill Athletic Red

Big freeze setting in by now Mike Ward scored in the first half after a skilful passage of play by Leo Llewellyn, James Gough and Hugh Meatyard to give Mike Ward the opportunity to score in the top right corner.

Coach talks to the players and the second half starts with Thornhill turning up the pressure. The Panthers defence were to strong and after running the ball from our own half James Gough chip's the ball to the back of the net.

Hugh Meatyard scores a brilliant goal after battling past at least three defenders to score his goal.

Final score:

Panthers 3 Thornhill 0

Game 3: Panthers v Pentyrch Rangers

Not much to report here as Pentyrch were unable to attend

Panthers 0 Pentyrch Rangers 0

Overall another great performance by the Panthers in bad conditions.

Saturday 4th February 2006

Lisvane Panthers Under 11 Black

Venue - Morganstown

Game 1 - Panthers v Radyr Rangers Red

Due to illness, we were only able to field seven players, of which James Gough came out of his sick bed to play. Also a 9.30 start on a cold morning didn't help.

This was a tough game and the team put together some great passing, which resulted in an early goal for Mike Ward. With our solid defence of Hugh Meatyard and Thomas Morgan and Harry Squires in goal, nothing got past them, the half time score was 1 - 0.

The second half saw us under constant pressure with the ball not making it out of our half. A great lob and a good corner saw Radyr scoring two goals to take the match.

Panthers 1 Radyr Rangers 2

Game 2 - Panthers v Marlborough

Now warmed up and some encouraging words from the coach the boys were up for this game. A great cross from Hugh allowed Mike ward to score the first. Some more good work from Hugh allowed Leo Llewellyn to slot home the second. Hugh Meatyard then got a well-deserved goal to make it 3 - 0 at half time.

After the break, Adam Salamon beat three players to score a great goal. He then went onto set up Hugh Meatyard who scored his second.

Panthers 5 Marlborough 0

Game 3 - Panthers Black v Panthers Red

Due to sickness, fatigue and lack of players in both camps, this game became a training session. No goals were scored but some great moves were worked out and put into practice.

Lisvane Panthers wish all of our sick players a speedy recovery and look forward to having a full squad next Saturday.

(Mike Salamon - Stand in reporter for Ade Thomas)

Saturday 11th February 2006

Lisvane Panthers Under 11 Black

Venue: Trelai

A beautiful Sunny day!

Game 1: Panthers v Heath Park Rangers

The boys were not playing that well due to the Lisvane flu epidemic! Most of the boys had been ill recently and unfortunately a little worse for wear. The absenteeism had affected the team badly last week as a result of this.

Lisvane under constant pressure provided a great goal kick from Harry which allowed Huw Meatyard to intercept after a fast sprint forward.

A quick cross to Leo Llewellyn ensured a great finish after a battle with the HPR goal keeper.

Unfortunately that laps of concentration resulted in HPR levelling just before the whistle at half time.

The second half was a better effort, however despite several attacks by the Panthers we were not able to break the HPR defence.

Panthers under persistant pressure from the opposition resulted in a 2 -1 defeat.

Good effort Panthers.

Panthers 1 Heath Park Rangers 2

Game 2: Panthers Black v Pentwyn Dynamo White

Coach knows we can do better and gives the boy's some encouragement.

Boy's more focused with good passing. Just unable to get them goals.

A surge of energy from Huw Meatyard resulted in a brilliant run at the opposition with the whites of his eyes focused on the delivery. Unfortunately this opportunity was just missed despite the great effort from Huw.

The first half finished on a low due to what appeared to be a fluke goal from Pentwyn.

Pentwyn in the second half scored three more goals in quick succession. Panthers wake up and manage to score two goals by Huw Meatyard and Adam Salamon which go straight between the goalies legs.

Final score:

Panthers 2 Pentwyn 4

Game 3: Panthers v Capital Truck Blue

Boys a little under the weather now so they needed to get a result.

The first half opened rapidly with an early attempt by Capital Truck. Fortunately Harry Squires had it under control with his great save.

Load's of vocal encouragement from the Panthers Supporters & Coach!

Huw Meatyard again with a great goal lifting the spirit of the Panthers, as a result of more strength agility and good passing.

Great combination of Huw, David and Leo upfront.

The second half started with a few changes in position by the Coach and the usual encouragement.

Panthers showing great defence. A pass from the defence to Huw a quick pass to Adam and returned back to Huw to finish with a great goal.

Final Score:

Panthers 2 Capital Truck 0

Overall another great performance by the Panthers.

Saturday 25th February 2006

Lisvane Panthers Under 11 Black

Venue: Llanishen

The boys turned up with enthusiasm but unfortunately not all teams were present to play.

Mike Salamon and Adrian Gough were able to Coach and Referee

Game 1: Panthers v Malboro

A great start to the game with James Gough, Huw Meatyard and David Thomas setting the standard of play with a combination of crosses and headers.

The first goal was scored by Huw, who took an opportunity while the goal keeper was out on walkabouts.

Marlbolorough fight back, but James Gough defends well preventing the equaliser.

With great passing from the team a goal is set-up with David scoring the second goal at the end of the first half.

Mike Salamon praises the performance of the Panthers at half time

Second half started well with Huw having two attempts to score from within the goal area. These were denied by the Marlboro defence and good goal keeping from Marlboro

Marlborough eventually get the better of us, and get their first goal.

Panthers hit back with a sneaky back kick from James Gough. Leo intercepts and scores the final goal of the second half.

Great Game Panthers!

Panthers 3 Marlboro 1

Game 2: Panthers Black v Fairwater

The boy's had to wait a while due to the absence of the 3rd team.

This was a great game with Fairwater putting up a good fight. The Panthers were determined to score with Leo nearly scoring after a great left kick

Adam misses after hitting the post, Huw has two opportunities but Panthers are unable to score.

Second half starts with the boy's tiring a little. Adam tries for goal but misses. Fairwater defend well.

Huw Meatyard goes for a long kick and scores a great goal, with the ball going under the goalie as he dives to save the strike from Huw

A great performance from the Panthers in difficult conditions.

Panthers 1 Fairwater 0

Lisvane Panthers Under 11 Black

Venue: Morganstown

A bright sunny day, but very cold

Ade Thomas, the Match Reporter sends his apologies as he is living in work at present.

Game 1: Panthers Black v Radyr Rangers Blue

The game started off well and was secured easily with a combination of good passing and excellent Team work and good finishing from the players.

Excellent start to our 1st game with goals scored by Leo, Adam and a Hat trick from Hugh

Panthers 5 Radyr 0

Game 2: Panthers Black v St Albans

An excellent game with all players providing a sound performance. Great passing and strong defending.

A rebound from the goalie gave David an opportunity to put the ball in the back of the net.

As usual a great performance from our keeper (Harry). Unfortunately in this half St Albans were able to score.

At the end of the first half David was able to set-up a goal for Hugh to finish.

The second half started fast with Mike Ward just missing a goal as the ball skimmed the cross bar. A further attempt by Michael secured a goal as he skilfully kicked the ball in the corner of the goals.

Adam scores as the keeper spilled the ball.

A quote from the Coach Andy Ward, and quote "A brilliant passage of play".

Obviously our performance had an influence on our coach and visa versa of course.

Panthers 4 St Albans 1

Game 3: Panthers Black v Panthers Orange

The game started with a surprise unexpected goal from the opposition. This created a vocal reaction from the supporters providing plenty of encouragement for our players.

Our players improved as the game progressed but were obviously desperate for the equaliser.

Plenty of opportunities and attempts were made during the first half. Alex having to secure our defence just before half time with another attack from the opposition.

This second half was stronger despite battling at the goals to secure an equaliser, it did not happen?

That was until Adam came to the rescue and scored that important goal. It was just one more needed to win the match.

This game got better, with superb play from all positions. Adam was able to provide yet another great strike, an opportunity that was delivered by excellent passing skills from the forwards.

The coach Andy Ward was obviously overwhelmed by the boy's performance by quoting...

And Quote " An Awesome Match"

Panthers Black 2 Panthers Orange 1

A solid performance from the Panthers Black this week.

"Well done PANTHERS!"

(Ade Thomas)

Saturday 25th March 2006

Lisvane Panthers Under 11 Black

Venue: Sevenoaks

A dull damp start to the day...

Ade Thomas, the Match Reporter sends his apologies again.

Maria Thomas standing in.

Game 1: Panthers Black v Grangetown BC Claret

An excellent first game with plenty of passing between the players. An all round team performance. The end of the first half finished with a kick from Hugh which resulted in an excellent high volley from David to secure the winning goal.

The second half had Harry busy, with some great saves. More great play from the Panthers for the rest of the match, but unfortunately no more goals.

Panthers 1 Grangetown BC Claret 0

Game 2: Panthers Black v Grangetown BC Blue

Panthers continued to play well in this game. The players had various attempts to score, firstly by Mike Ward but unlucky, then finished off by an excellent goal from David Thomas.

The boys were on a learning curve at this match with vocal gestures from the opposition creating a little confusion for the young Panther Black players.

The second half continued in our favour with Hugh on form with his solid battling skills securing a further goal.

Leo was able to secure a goal from way inside the oppositions defence.

David Thomas is able to score again with an excellent final goal.

Panthers 4 Grangetown BC Blue 1

Game 3: Panthers Black v Rhiwbina

The previous matches had taken the toll on the young players as they seemed to lack their usual drive at this stage of the game.

Harry was able to provide some much needed saves from within our defence as Rhiwbina tried to secure a win.

Unfortunately for Harry, he incurred an injury and had to be substituted by Mike Ward.

The end of the first half had the Coach praising the boy's performance and providing words of encouragement for the final half.

The second half had the boy's reappearing stronger despite the change of goal keeper.

Unfortunately Rhiwbina were able to score.

This had Hugh Meatyard on a Mission Impossible, virtually on his lonesome up the whole length of the pitch!! Making the impossible possible by securing the equaliser at the end of the second half.

Well done Hugh!

Panthers Black 1 Rhiwbina 1

Overall the boys had a challenging day with strong performances. Well done Panthers!

(Ade Thomas)
